Commentary

Having originally topped the chart last August, French producer David Guetta and Australian Sia return to No.1 with the incredible Titanium! Sia's fellow Australian Gotye slides a place to No.2 after three weeks on top with Kimbra duet Somebody That I Used To Know whilst Swedish dance anthem Flares by Prance Faris dips one spot to No.3...Leading the Eurovision charge is Norwegian contender Minnie-Oh who smashes in at No.4 with You & I whilst Cover Drive dip two places to No.5 with Twilight...Following the lead of its 2009 equivalent, Norway's Melodi Grand Prix 2012 compilation goes straight in at No.1 in the album chart which pushes Kelly Clarkson's Stronger, Gotye's Making Mirrors, Young London's Young London and Steps' The Ultimate Collection all down a place each in the top five...

19 new entries in the Top 40! Less than in my chart

Minnie-Oh Top 4 :o Nice song but definitely not the best from the whole selection.

Haha, you win! Still, surely the second most Buzzjack has ever seen? :P

I could say the same about the song at #4 in your current chart :o You & I has taken me right by surprise, the electro/string Robyn-esque production is gorgeous, I love the lyrics, but more than anything - that melody in the second half of the second verse/bridge (from 'you need to follow your dreams' up until the chorus) is AMAZING

Hello Rich,

3. Prance Faris - Flares (2) (CR-31-15-9-2-3)

4. Minnie-Oh - You & I (NEW) (CR-4) - This is the only one of the Norwegian selection I've listened to as of yet, it's amazing electronica, definitely hope it gets picked, what would you say its chances are (and which of the other ones would I like)?

5. Cover Drive - Twilight (3) (CR-10-10-4-3-5)

7. Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) (4) (CR-55-OUT-23-13-7-11-24-36-31-33-32-21-11-3-4-7)

8. One Direction - One Thing (47) (CR-35-29-28-23-28-OUT-47-8)

10. Emma Lewin - No Excuses (NEW) (CR-10) - Heard about this earlier on Scandipop, was very interested... seems keeping close to Sheelah's sound, it was only described as a demo though, hopefully we'll get something more solid soon.

11. Ivi Adamou - La La Love (20) (CR-20-11)

12. First Aid Kit - Emmylou (21) (CR-21-12)

14. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (8) (CR-34-22-8-8-5-8-14)

17. M83 - Reunion (NEW) (CR-17)

19. Lise Karlsnes - Sailors (NEW) (CR-19) - Ok, You And I wasn't the only one I listened to, I already like this more than Red Hot, in fact, a lot more than Red Hot, it feels very epic but keeping to the same sound. I knew Lise had potential, if one of these two wins Melodi Grand Prix, Norway will be good this contest.

21. Marigold - You & I Know (11) (CR-18-14-11-21)

32. Ed Sheeran - Drunk (42) (CR-73-OUT-42-32)

37. Robin - Frontside Ollie (NEW) (CR-37) - Was slightly bemused by this, I like keeping a good watch on Finnish iTunes, but I don't think I've heard anything quite like this, and was very surprised by how quickly it appeared, foreign pop-rock with what seems like a young Finnish Bieber??? Quite catchy in any case.

40. Le Kid - Human Behaviour (46) (CR-46-40)

44. Foster The People - Call It What You Want (NEW) (CR-44)

48. Gym Class Heroes feat Neon Hitch - Ass Back Home (NEW) (CR-48)

Brilliant chart, especially loving all that top 5 at the moment.

Thanks Eyes, sadly the chances of either You & I or Sailors going on to represent Norway are as likely as the eventual winner reaching #1 in the UK charts (i.e. not very likely :P), electro songs like that always seem to crash out in their heat and the three front runners are a folk song which is #25 in my chart and two other songs that I haven't charted so far (one is a folky acoustic song about drinking too much alcohol, the other a political rap song by two 15 year olds about the shootings in Norway last year...). As for what I think you'd like, I really recommend the whole compilation, there are a few stinkers but lots of electro pop and other decent songs!

No Excuses is definitely in keeping with the Sheelah sound, and whilst I really love it, it's not quite a match for Psycho or The Last Time and does have a bit of a demo feel to it...Frontside Ollie is ridiculously catchy, he's 13 years old apparently - cringe at me liking it so much but I can't keep a good pop song down

Damn... I'm not too familiar with the various versions of the Melodi Grand Prix/Festivalen in the Scandi countries, I'm probably overpredicting all the really good pop already, but we'll see (In that case, my vote goes to the one in your chart, simply because I trust your taste). I'll have a check on the thread in the ESC forum/Wiki, and probably try out anything that strikes my fancy.

It's VERY rare for a great pure pop song to go through to the contest from Norway, their last pure pop entry was in 2000 I think (although I guess Haba Haba was the most poppy they've been since, but it was just as influenced by African culture), so be prepared for something folky

It reflects the taste of the country though, their charts never feature much pop at all, certainly not compared to neighbouring Sweden!

'Si' is amazing. Definitely the best song of the selection. Too bad it doesn't stand a chance. :(

I approve of your #1 <3

Quite right, it's surely impossible NOT to approve of Titanium :o

Really? It goes in one ear and out the other for me, it probably just needs more listens though as I thought the same about Somebody That I Used To Know after the first few listens

It's going to be a three horse race between racist middle aged men, drunk middle aged men and two 15 year old rappers, who'd have thought it? :o

Hey Rich ^_^

1. David Guetta feat Sia - Titanium (5) (CR-4-1-2-3-7-12-18-23-29-32-29-39-OUT-33-27-19-5-1) Longest Runner Loving seeing renewed love for this from most people now it's a fully fledged single, it feels so great to have been championing Sia for a while and now she's on the verge of two massive featured hits and she's got her new solo album out in the summer, so I really hope it's the break she needs!

2. Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (1) (CR-60-48-44-39-OUT-27-19-13-9-2-1-1-1-2)Same with this really, great to see so much love finally! It'd be amazing if Kimbra got noticed from this too (Vows is a great album), but I think it's too much to ask as I doubt Gotye will even live past this in his chart life

5. Cover Drive - Twilight (3) (CR-10-10-4-3-5)

7. Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) (4) (CR-55-OUT-23-13-7-11-24-36-31-33-32-21-11-3-4-7)

11. Ivi Adamou - La La Love (20) (CR-20-11) Best chance Cyprus have had in ages!

17. M83 - Reunion (NEW) (CR-17)

20. Alexandra Burke - Elephant (41) (CR-41-20) Incrediblt comeback, I really hope she doesn't suffer from huge first week sales followed by a bomb down the charts as I fear :(

24. Oh Land - Speak Out Now (9) (CR-13-13-18-9-24)

26. M83 - Midnight City (36) (CR-31-25-39-OUT-36-26)

30. Ivi Adamou - You Don't Belong Here (18) (CR-18-30)

32. Ed Sheeran - Drunk (42) (CR-73-OUT-42-32) Brilliant single choice, I definitely much prefer it to Lego House and it's probably level with The A Team imo!

38. Skrillex feat The Doors - Breakin' A Sweat (NEW) (CR-38)

40. Le Kid - Human Behaviour (46) (CR-46-40)

42. Cher Lloyd feat Astro - Want U Back (45) (CR-45-42)

The rappers? I guess they could win over the OMG SO CUUUUUUUTE vote. The Canoes though... I REALLY don't see how anyone can take their song seriously. It'll fail miserably at Eurovision. :drama:

1. So few singles in my chart history have managed to have two runs at #1 with such a long break in between, only Release Me and Love Song have done it in recent years! Haha, I've been championing Sia since 2000 :drama: She had #1's in my chart in 2001, 2004, 2011 and now 2012, FINALLY she gets a major UK smash to her name, over a decade after I first wanted her to have one! I just hope that radio support her album after these two big hits, she's such a perennial underachiever though that I won't hold my breath. Hopefully she doesn't always need to tag onto a big rap/dance star to get a hit :(

2. I think both acts will be one hit wonders in the UK with this song sadly, Gotye might get a top ten album out of it but that will be it - what a hit it is though :D

11. Definitely the best song they will have had in years if it gets chosen, possibly ever! I wonder if the juries will sink it though, probably...

20. It's very good, don't understand why it's getting so much hate to be honest, what is SO offensive about using a vocoder?

32. I wouldn't rate it quite that high but it will be interesting to see where it peaks for me after his three #1's in a row! His songs always take ages to get going in my chart

Yep - plus their song is about the Norwegian shootings of last year so it has a huge political message that the audience may really relate to/appreciate :o

I don't actually mind The Canoes song, it's catchy and it's not supposed to be taken seriously - it could be a new anthem for drunks, and I'm not so sure that it would fail at Eurovision either - I guarantee that the UK would give it huge points (in the televoting) at least :P

Hi Rich :) How's it going? I like:

Nice chart. Well those that I know of. Aha. So much Eurovision-related in your chart already!
