August 17, 200619 yr I wouldn't jump the gun with "success" here. Lets see if she can get passed chewing on her latest album (how many singles have been released now of it?). I don't meen to sound rude but dissing Hilary does NOT make Kelly any better. I like both, but she did win a contest. And it is not the most respectable way to get a record contract. I own both her albums and all of Hilary's.
August 17, 200619 yr To be honest I don't think it is less respectable to get a recording contract off the back of a TV show. Ok Kelly did, but she's managed to maintain her stay with her record company. So many artists have won TV shows like AI, but they've quickly been dropped. I'm not dissing Hilary as such, I just don't think she can be compared to Kelly as she is in a far lower league. She isn't really a proper singer, she's more of an actress who has turned to singing, but you can tell she isn't a natural singer.
August 17, 200619 yr Kelly's first album was modestly succesfull. Its "Breakway" that was her breakthrough (no pun intended, honestly!) You can't judge a substantial carreer yet based on 2 albums. I like her but Hilary Duff has been in the indurtsy for years now. She's got to be doing something right. And I just don't like how she is being dissed for lame things. She worked her way to the top. Kelly worked hard to. I am aware of this. So there is no need to bad mouth either of these artists. Hilary has said nothing bad about kelly and vice versa.
August 17, 200619 yr That's true. I thought Hilary was more recent then Kelly though? Kelly started about 02 was it, or 03. But Hilary didn't start her music career till later on, did she?
August 17, 200619 yr lol, now that you mention it they both released their debuts the same year. lol! I guess it just feels longer for Hilary because of her Lizzie days. I hope I have not offended anyone because I do admire Kelly allot. I just can't tolerate artist put downs when its simply to raise the profile of another artist. Like I said, putting one down wont make the other better. cool forum x
August 17, 200619 yr Nah that's cool. However my intention wasn't to put down Hilary in order to raise Kelly's profile.

August 17, 200619 yr You tend to find most female american singers don't have much success in the Uk. Besides the obvious, Britney/Christina. Others simply don't promote themselfs. Look at the likes of Ashlee Simpson/Hilary Duff/Lyndsay Lohan - they are well known and have enjoyed success in the states but the general UK public can't even name more than 2 songs by either. And in Lohans case, none really. lol. Kelly Clarkson broke through in the UK with "Breakaway". "Thankfull" however didn't even make the top 40 I think
August 17, 200619 yr I know, it was so close. And it was so weird cos I had a dream a few days before that it would climb to #41! :o
