I can't stand her accent unfortunately! It grates on me :(

If it was sung by anyone else, I would have liked it!

Couldn't you reopen the tab?

I made it a separate google chrome window to make it easier to switch between them (Alt+Tab  ). So no :(

Almost done now, anyway.

Glad Germany didn't go through, it was appalling. Seriously anything by Ralph Siegel 1989 onwards generally sucks balls.

Sorry, after 1994. Though Just Get Out Of My Life was acceptable, in a doomed way.

Guess I was too late, only today I've seen the PM. In case anyone cares, my 12 was Spain (the best Spanish entry ever) and my 10 was Portugal (probably in my top3 portuguese entries ever).

Oh well, Spain would've qualified. No chance now for any other Spanish entries though.

I really liked Dime but to say it's been downhill since would be an understatement.

I thought that the UK were bad at Eurovision these days but at least it feels like we can pull a hit out of the bag if we put some real effort in, Spain send dated, irrelevant nothings of songs year in year out, a bottom five place is always reserved especially for them. 2010 was slightly different of course but he DID get to perform twice, an obvious boost for even the worst song.

I agree but 'Baila El Chiki-Chiki' was excellent in an entertaining sort of way. 'Algo pequeñito' was excellent as well, but as a proper song.
Well I liked their entries in the early 00s best, 2001,2002 and 2003. I also liked Soraya and last years entry was pretty good too. They're not too bad, but I feel its just completely different cultures. I also think a lot of portuguese entries are not as appreciated as they should've been. When we're shite we really go hard like last years little "statement", but we've also sent some great stuff that never did well as it should've. Mostly from the 90s imo.

I agree that most of the 90s entries were criminally underrated by the Juries, but when it comes to the noughties (especially 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2006) then Europe got it damn right.

"Senhora do Mar" should've come Top 3, and I quote this as one of the reasons we have the jury vote back, "Todas as Ruas do Amor" was very very underrated - such a fab, breezy song, and "Ha Dias Assim" should've come Top15 as Filipa gave a very strong professional vocal. Same with Rita Guerra really, but I mostly blame her for singing in Portuguese. If it had been sung in English she'd be on the Top part of the scoreboard.

I far prefer Portugal to Spain in general. The Rita Guerra song was really good and Senhora Do Mar definitely should have been top ten at least, likewise Todas as Ruas do Amor. I agree with Dre's comment about different cultures though, even looking at the Spanish charts - they're barely in sync with any other charts in the world, often full of twee dated pop, which I guess shows in the majority of their Eurovision entries. Portugal are just sorely underrated on the other hand because occasionally they send a real gem, but it never does as well as it deserves.

Kudos to both countries for always sticking to their native language though, but I suppose it hinders them quite a bit these days when everybody else is singing in English :(

Portugal is definitely the most underrated country, by far. Of the last few years 2008, 2009 and 2010 entries were STUNNING. Poor Vania finished 2nd in Semi and slaughtered in the Final  However after the excellent 2003 song they kind of TOOK A BREAK from entering good tunes, and therefore DNQd in the next 4 consecutive years.

I want Portugal to finally reach that Top 5 position! :drama: I think they are pretty much the ONLY active participant yet to do that. :o

I can't speak for Spain, but in Portugal one of the rules is that it HAS to be in portuguese, so there's no way around that :( In one way, I do think every country should at least attempt to send in their own languages most of the time. But all of us are aware that we do worse because of this rule.

As for the type of pop popular here in Portugal (and Spain), its definitely MOR pop, or uber dated cheesy stuff that's seen as somewhat low class but that everyone sings along in festivities. However 10 years ago in Spain it was more latin dance-pop like "Dime" that was everywhere (and even that one was one of the last ones to become a big hit) - which is a genre I loved and defined Spain for me. But now its just MOR, I'm not into it but I realize its everywhere here and next door.

Bah at Russia making it - that's one of the worst traumas my ears have been exposed to!

Norway deserved better1

Romania and Belgium are ace!
