Posted January 27, 201213 yr The Almost Saturday Charts are a Mike Robinson Production, based on average downloads from 5 sites, & iTunes sales plus a tad of physical from HMV. Just ahead of today's charts: There we were the other day, screaming at the way Guiness books & others, have falsely put it about that the charts, that they chose for 50s & 60s to be "Official" back in the day, when they most certainly were not! We came to the conclusion that the best way to start from something "Official" would be to only use the word from 11th Feb 1969. Which is only correct & right. So, how to achieve a more correct chart from before that period? It can be done, we think & that is something we plan for a future post/& or publication. Mainly because, we get fed up of people telling us that these flipping records were number one, & were not! These are the records from the 50s & 60s period, that were not definately not bonafide #1s: UNCHAINED MELODY - JIMMY YOUNG HERNANDO'S HIDEAWAY - JOHNSTON BROTHERS (The biggest calamity of the 50s, & really a struggle for a top 3 place) ROCK N' ROLL WALTZ - KAY STARR SINGING THE BLUES - TOMMY STEELE ROCK-A-BILLY - GUY MITCHELL ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE - VIC DAMONE IT'S ALL IN THE GAME - TOMMY EDWARDS THE DAY THE RAIN'S CAME - JANE MORGAN MACK THE KNIFE - BOBBY DARIN THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN - EDDIE COCHRAN SHAKIN' ALL OVER - JOHNNY KIDD I LOVE YOU - CLIFF RICHARD SAILOR - PETULA CLARK ON THE REBOUND - FLOYD KRAMER (This one being the biggest sample mistake & likely never even made the top 3) REACH FOR THE STARS - SHIRLEY BASSEY KON TIKI - THE SHADOWS THE WAYWARD WIND - FRANK IFIELD DEVIL IN DISGUISE - ELVIS PRESLEY DIANE - THE BACHELORS IT'S ALL OVER NOW - ROLLING STONES LITTLE RED ROOSTER - ROLLING STONES THE MINUTE YOU'RE GONE - CLIFF RICHARD KING OF THE ROAD - ROGER MILLER THE LEGEND OF XANADU - DAVE DEE, DOZY, BEAKY, MICK, & TICH I PRETEND - DES O' CONNOR FIRE - THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN BLACKBERRY WAY - THE MOVE All those (except the 2 mentioned) really only went as high, as #2. There are some obvious reasons for it. Both NME & Record Retailer were midweek cut offs & so, became behind other charts, that went Mon to Sat (such as Melody Maker & Disc). Though we do stress, that no charts from the 1952 to 1969 period, was actually based on sales. Every single chart, from what ever Music Publication, was based on a mean average of stores charts, across the Britain. Those were 27 that were not really #1s...but it doesn't stop there, for these 13 are ignored for hitting the top (when they most certainly did): UNCHAINED MELODY - AL HIBBLER MA, HE'S MAKING EYES AT ME - JOHNNY OTIS SHOW BIRD DOG - EVERLY BROTHERS ARE YOU SURE - THE ALLISONS TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY - BOBBY VEE STRANGER ON THE SHORE - MR ACKER BILK MARCH OF THE SIAMESE CHILDREN - KENNY BALL A PICTURE OF YOU - JOE BROWN PLEASE PLEASE ME - THE BEATLES DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET - BILLY J.
