After "Video Games" I thought she might have something, but all I've heard since plus the dreadful SNL performance in the US makes me think otherwise.

I've just seen on the new release schedule that Green Day have an album out.

OK, they are not the force they once were, and it is just a live album, but with overall sales so low, they must be the biggest threat to Lana...

They released a live album last year and only got to #14 and spent one week top 40. They won't be a threat at all, low sales or not.

The only other new release that could come within a mile of challenging Lana for #1 is the new Leonard Cohen album.

It will easily go #1. It's pre-orders have been so high.
I've preordered the deluxe edition from CDWOW.com. Its only £7.99 on there for the deluxe. I hope this album does well. She is a very talented artist. I expect it should easily go top3 if not number 1 due to low sales at the moment.
Obvious #1. I wouldn't even be that surprised if it snatched a second week at the #1 or just grew and grew like 21 did. Are there any big releases coming up between this and Our Version of Events? I went for 40-60k opening sales but I'd very much like it to outdo that and wouldn't be overly surprised.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if they made the top 10 tbh. It's a very low-profile release of 1993 live gig, and sales below the top 5 aren't that low.

I do think this could surprise and sell 80k plus. The amount of attention she's received is staggering

I listened to Born to die and Video games yesterday and they were truly awful songs.

Assuming you haven't already bought the album, then not liking them isn't a problem. :P

[i just know the above comment is going to come back to haunt me]

Looks as though only 1 person will be right in their prediction for first week sales!
How come we all underestimated it? Was it the lack of sales in the upper end of the chart over the last few weeks that made us think she would not sell nearly this much?

Personally I originally would have said 100k+ but after Born To Die completely failed to live up to expectations I revised my prediction down a lot.

I guess Lana is, as some have suggested, a bit like Mumford & Sons where she can sell a lot of albums and also sell a decent amount of singles oevr a long period of time but with lowish peaks.

I see one or two latecomers have opportunistically predicted 'over 100k'... :P
IMO her cover picture for the album is most unflattering - makes her look like a mormon.

agreed - the cover art is really bland and nondescript...and the photography is just..... bad. It's a great album though..... This Is What Makes Us Girls is just.... superb.

It's obviously a number one album, where it belongs...and, as it's the first payday this week for many after a long, long time, I predict great sales..... 80-100k.

Personally I thought she would do around 80k but I never thought she had impacted the general public as much as the internet.

I don't know why but it reminds me of American Gothic
