August 6, 200618 yr ARIA Chart Commentary from ARIA.com Rihanna spent 8 weeks at No.1 with her single "SOS", now Shakira makes it back-to-back 8 week runs at the top of the charts, as her single "Hips Don't Lie" keeps it hold on the No.1 spot. It also went back to the top of the charts in the UK this past week, and with the Top 8 all by female artists, it could be another run for a female when Shakira is eventually dethroned. The last time two singles spent 8 weeks back-to-back at No.1 was between February and May 1997 when No Doubt's "Don't Speak" and Savage Garden's "Truly, Madly, Deeply" each did an eight week stint. The last time that female's spent 16 or more weeks at No.1 was when there was 28 week run at top for girls in 1999 that included Cher, Britney Spears, TLC, Sixpence None the Richer and Jennifer Lopez. Of the eight debuts this week, the top four are all by female artists. The highest of which is latest Neighbours actress-turned-singer Stephanie McIntosh, who debuts at No.3 with her debut single "Mistake". Her character Sky Mangel is half-brother (on the show) to Jason Donovan's character, and Stephanie was 3 years old when he first hit the charts in October 1988. This single is taken from her forthcoming album "Tightrope", due September 9th. Christina Aguilera has had 14 Top 50 singles, her this week her 12th Top 10 single debuts at No.6. "Ain't No Other Man" is her first single since the No.2 single "Car Wash" and the No.5 song with Nelly "Tilt Ya Head Back" were on the charts in October and November 2004. Her new album "Back to Basics" is released August 12th, and this single is currently sitting at No.2 in the UK charts. Dannii Minogue has been in Australia doing a promotional tour for her new Best of (with extra tracks) album entitled "Hits and Beyond" (out this week), and her new single debuts at No.16, "Under Pressure". She was last on the charts in February 2006 when "Perfection" hit No.13 and this is her 20th Top 100 single in Australian. The fourth female to debut this week, was last on the charts in September 2005 when she took her song from her movie The Dukes of Hazard to No.2. That single "These Boots are Made for Walkin' is now followed-up by the No.18 debut this week with "A Public Affair". Its from the album of the same name, and becomes Jessica's 9th Top 100 single since her debut in 2000. AFI debut at No.20 this week with the first single from their recent No.3 album "December Underground" (No.43 this week). "Miss Murder" is their second only Top 50 single, the other being "The Leaving Song" which hit No.27 in August 2003. Making his first chart entry on the Aussie charts is Houston, Texas native Chamillionaire with his single "Ridin'", which features the guest vocals of Krayzie Bone, and this is a former US No.1 single. He has earned alias "The Mixtape Messiah," a title Cham was crowned after independently selling over 100,000 copies of the "Get Ya Mind Correct" album, and by selling thousands of his numerous mix tapes. George Michael debuts with his 'affair' this week, as his new single "An Easier Affair" enters that charts No.36. He was last on the charts back in July 2004 with the No.26 track "Flawless (Go to the City)", and this track is the first of four new songs from his new album '25' which features all of his greatest hits from Wham! to today! The last new entry to the Top 50 comes in at No.44, "Catching and Killing" is the new single from Youth Group. It's the follow-up to their platinum selling version of "Forever Young" (No.49 this week), and comes off this weeks No.31 album "Casino Twilight Dogs". For the second week, "High School Musical" is the No.1 album in Australia. The highest debut comes in at No.7, and is the debut album from Lily Allen. Her single "Smile" comes out in Australia the week of August 14th, but the aniticipation must be high as the album enters the Top 10 first week out. The album debuted at No.2 in the UK two weeks ago, and was sitting at No.3 this week. The first solo album for Pharrell Williams debuts at No.15, "In My Mind", and features the April Top 50 single "Angel". He was last on the albums chart with the No.11 album "Fly or Die" as part of N*E*R*D back in March 2004. Stone Sour debut at No.21 with their latest album "Come What(ever) May", and debuting at No.27 is I Killed the Prom Queen with their album "Music for the Recently Deceased". Thanks to Gavin Ryan
