Rolling In The Deep is currently about 1.2 million behind I Gotta Feeling. I think it could get close.

Adele and the Beatles are the only acts ever to post three songs in the Billboard Hot 100's top 10 and two albums in the Billboard 200's top five in the same week.

On that same note aren't she and the Beatles the only acts in the UK chart to hold 2 positions in both the album and singles chart top 5 simultaneously (which I think she did for a few weeks including the albums top2).

21 was the quickest album to 3 million as well and I doubt any of the small handful of 4 million seller have done it in as few as 56-and-a-bit weeks either.

Yes. The previous fastest to 3 million was Oasis in just over 1 year and 7 months. The fastest to 4 million was Oasis with 4.3 million by 2005 (ten years!).(I cant find how long they took to get to 4 million exact, but reckon 7 years at least.)

I think Adele will get to 4.3 million by the summer of this year.

To put her speed of selling into perspective, she probably passed the four million mark yesterday which was the album's 397th day on sale in the UK, which works out as over 10,000 sales per day every day since its release.

Who were the undead ones? Did MJ do it?

Michael Jackson only had one top five single following his death; 'Billie Jean' charted at #10 during the week that 'Man in the Mirror' was #2 and The Essential was #1, Number Ones was #3 and King of Pop was #5 in the albums chart.

I think John Lennon did it after his death (but Theo is right, MJ only had one top 5 single).

EDIT: Yes, week ending 07/02/1981 (some time after his death actually) John Lennon had the #1 and #4 singles with 'Woman' and 'Imagine' plus the #1 and #5 albums with 'Double Fantasy' (w/ Yoko Ono) and 'Imagine'.

I was checking on John Lennon but stopped before that date

I thought Jackson did have two top five singles so I didn't bother checking that

Yeah I was sure MJ had the albums but not singles but admittedly couldn't be Arsed checking. Since John Lennon was a Beatle, is there any other artists alive or dead who have actually done it?

Honourary mention ought to go to Madonna who held two top 5 hits on the singles chart W/E 24.08.85 plus the No. 2 & 6 position in the album charts. Back in those days compilations were included in the main charts so if the same rules existed back then as do now then she would have met your criteria.

Holland:

-Most weeks at #1 (31 in total for '21' in the album charts)

-First artist to replace themself at #1 ('21' takes over 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall')

Here's a question, is '19' the only album in history, outside of it's first two years, to sell over 1 million copies in a year? There's a poser for all you chart geniuses :P

I'm not at home at the mo to check but I'd say there are a couple of candidates. Dido's "no angel" came out in 1999 I think but sold a million in 2001, similarly with david gray's "white ladder" , and the corrs "talk on corners" was released in 1997 and sold a million in 1999.

Thanks Gezza. You could be right about all 3 of those, although white ladder had a re-release in 2000.

Ok, I'll test you further! Is '19' the first album ever, outside of it's first 3 years, to sell over a million in one year?

Actually, thinking about it, this might be the best way to phrase the question:

Does Adele's '19' hold the record for the longest time between release and a million+ selling year?

I'm so thick- "Gold" by Abba- released in 1992 sold a million in 1999 :D
