Hello and welcome to the past. Or, to be exact, the absolutely fabulous year 2005 and 50th Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Kiev!

Here you will find the full Semifinal show and here is the Final of Eurovision 2005, also in its entirety. However it's only performances and the voting would be right here.

I hope these links work for y'all.

A few FACTS about 2005:

- Hungary returned to ESC after a 6-year absense and finished 12th (ROBBED because of the running order!)! Fun fact that each time Hungary returns to the contest after absence they always do pretty well. Well, at least definitely qualify for the final. So 2012 is bound to be another DNQ. :'(

- Bulgaria and Moldova debuted, the former crashing and burning in the Semifinal and the latter finishing 2nd with whopping 200+ points and therefore participating in the Final, where they came 6th. Which is also best reults for Moldova to-date.

- Romania won the Semifinal with an incredible song that could definitely finish higher than 3rd if not for the 4th performing slot.

- Fabulous Elena brought the win to Greece for the first time in 26 years and continued the stunning run of consecutive Top 10 finishes that has now equalled to 8 years!

- Bottom 4 was BOOKED by 'The Big 4' countries (IRONIC OR WHAT?! HA!).

- Fabulous Vanilla Ninja brought Switzerland its best placing since 1993. Following this logic, I counted that in 2014 the nation should finally have another Top 10 finish. Sorry Sinplus.

- Jelena Tomašević (Serbian 2008 entry), Marija Šerifović (Serbian 2007 entry) and Andrea Demirović (Montengrin 2009 entry) all competed in the Serbia and Montenegro's National Final and came 2nd, 18th (!) and 5th. Talk about recycling artists. Ha.

- Malta came 2nd again, after the 2-year break from the Top 10, with Chiara, who wasn't exactly a stranger to Eurovision Top 3.

- Poor Nanne ROBBED by that Martin monstrosity in Melodifestivalen. :'(

- Having finished 10th in the Semifinal (where only the Top 10 qualified!) Latvia came FIFTH in the Final. WOT.

- The quality of the DNQs is quite astounding!

- I own Eurovision 2005 album (partially though as I couldn't find part 2 ANYWHERE at that time, for some bizarre reason) on CASSETTE somewhere. <3

As always, you vote using the traditional Eurovision system, i.e. 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points, and send the scores to me by PM! 6 songs will qualify for the Semifinals. If you already voted and realised that you missed something, you can change your votes if you want.

You have until evening of SUNDAY, February 12th to vote. And yeah, vote for you favourite song, and not the country, etc.

My highlights/lowlights of 2005;

- Israel's best entry since Diva, gorgeous ballad

- Switzerland kick starting their run of AMAZING which lasted for half a decade (with the exception of Six4One - despite the Alcazar member present) - Cool Vibes was leading until the losing DNQ nations voted in the second half and ruined it for them. If only finalists voted then this would have won. It also holds the record for longest running #2 peaking song in my chart, fact fans. Five weeks in a row in 2nd place, behind Ten Days by Missy Higgins  Even Eurovision couldn't get past that gorgeous Australian lesbian ballad!

- Helena, what a fantastic winner! Second year in a row I won money too, what an obvious but deserved winner it was. Greece's finest moment, along with Antique (again, thanks Helena).

- Another lacklustre entry from us, WHY were we jumping on the Eastern bandwagon, you don't get much more Western than the UK, apart from Ireland and Iceland! And Javine didn't pull it off, especially not from our usual unlucky 2nd place performing slot. Could have been worse though, what with Katie Price finishing 2nd in the National Final...

- Spain's crappy Las Ketchup rip-off, who knew that the following year we'd get the real thing, but even more crappy!

- Germany's weak and 'controversial' rock ballad that the song writer had cheated into the German charts iirc and was banned from attending the contest, despite having also written the Swiss entry!

- Bosnia-Herzegovina entering a fine slice of Swedish schlager. Again, like the UK - WHAT? Wrong side of Europe, non?

- I liked that Latvian entry, it was sweet and endearing! One of the guy's looked like Tom from McFly...

-The less said about Sweden the better. With the stunning Hall Om Mig and Alcastar in the Melodifestivalen top three, WHY was Las Vegas picked - truly the worst Swedish entry of last 30 years, yes I've heard them all.

- Poor Selma! This year's fan favourite that went crashing out in the semis, great song but not as good as All Out Of Luck admittedly...

- Hungary's amazing ethno folk pop song, that melody was killer!

- Turkey's entry sounded like it came straight out of a Bollywood movie...

- and last but not least, Lithuania, who had a very melodic and likeable song, that came last in its semi :nocheer:

Voted.

What an OUTSTANDING year. Could easily have voted for 9 more songs.

This year is AMAZING and I started early with råndomfurlöng on it earlier. It'll take me a while to notch up all my highlights, there are about eight in here that are amongst my fave Eurovision tracks of all time...

(That said R.I.P. Håll Om Mig :()

Voted, although it was so difficult to pick just 10! I have a feeling Sweden won't be qualifying this round
If we could get Martin swapped for Nanne in the opening post please Pav xx

No, Sweden will have only 9 entries in the Semifinals.

Oh, the rise and fall of Luciana Abreu (2B, Portugal) From Idol sweetheart, to Eurovision hopeful, to soapstar, to popstar, to tabloid primadonna, to failed 2009 Eurovision attempt, to WAG, to crazy baby-namer (daughter Lyoncé Viiktorya).

Lyoncé Viiktorya?

I bet it had something to do with Beyoncé and Victoria Beckham  Her daughter will HATE her.

Touché. I'll think about it.

It was the year I realized:

a) You can do well without neighbours - go us!

b) A favourite can crash and burn with a crap performance - Iceland!

c) A favourite can crash and burn with an excellent performance - Netherlands!

d) A bad vocal performance can be muted and yet you'd still get the meaning - Latvia!

Oh and BOO for the sound production, especially the Turkish song was ruined by the Moldovan backing track (and her screaming, she sounded like a cat during mating season!)
Who is us? You sure as hell aren't talking about the UK or Italy!
2005 was an absolutely fantastic year, even if most of my favourites crashed out in the semi :(

Chacun Pense A Soi, what a tune! :D

Yes, loved it too
