Japan: AKB48 with another million selling single

 

With first week sales of 1,287,217 copies, AKB48's newly released "Give Me Five!" has set the fourth result for highest first week sales of a physical single. The record was established back in August last year, when group's single "Flying Get" went on to sell 1,354,492 copies in its first week.

 

This release marks their 12th consecutive #1 single on the Oricon chart. They now have a total of 7 singles selling over a million copies.

 

The top 10 Japanese highest selling first week singles:

2. "Everyday, Kachusha" (2011) - AKB48 – 1,333,969

3. "Kaze Wa Fuiteiru" (2011) - AKB48 – 1,300,482

6. "Uekara Mariko" (2011) - AKB48 - 1,198,864

7. "Addicted To You" (1999) – Hikaru Utada – 1,067,510

8. "Dango 3 Kyoudai" (1999) – Kentaro Hayami, Ayumi Shigemori, Himawari Kids & Dango Gasshoudan – 1,025,740

I'll let them have another 3 million sellers in the first week but I'm NOT gonna let them knock Hikki out the list!

It's only a matter of time before AKB48 have the entire top 10 of this list :drama:

Funny though, NONE of the AKB48 singles have even sold half the total of previous record holders in the list.

 

The trend is basically:

 

Week 1: 1,200,000

Week 2: 180,000

Week 3: 90,000

Week 4: 45,000

 

HUGE first week but fades off. That excludes Heavy Rotation which is a digital smash/karoake smash.
