Posted August 7, 200618 yr SHAKIRA and the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS are celebrating today (31JUL06) after picking up seven 2006 MTV Video Music Awards nominations each. California rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers were saluted for their DANI CALIFORNIA video, while Shakira's HIPS DON'T LIE also wowed judges. The two acts will compete for Video of The Year alongside CHRISTINA AGUILERA (AIN'T NO OTHER MAN), MADONNA (HUNG UP) and PANIC! AT THE DISCO (I WRITE SINS NOT TRAGEDIES). Madonna's Hung Up also earned her another three nods, while Aguilera is up for three honours in total. BEYONCE KNOWLES, Panic! At The Disco, LUDACRIS and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE are among the first acts to sign up to perform at the ceremony, which will be held at New York's Radio City Music Hall next month (AUG06).

August 7, 200618 yr Its a good achivment that they got 7 awards but the icing on the cake would really be if they won the most awards ^_^ but I don't really see that happening :(
August 8, 200618 yr I'm not sure how many they'll actually win since it's the fans that vote. Madonna and Christina will be tough acts to beat with their big fan base but I think Chillis could do it in the Rock category and a few others they're nominated for.

They've always tended to be overshadowed at the awards but they seem to be finally getting their recognition, even if it IS for one of their weaker albums.

At The Disco winning video of the year <_< (a little off topic- but P!ATD had bottles thrown at them at Reading festival- knocked the lead singer off his feet! :o tee hee :P )
