Samauri warior, wow! Only thing left is for D to play one of the 7 dwarfs and he'll prove he can play anything! God I hope this show is picked up and popular. I know it won't be my cup of tea(though something tells me I'll be watching ;) ), but there's a massive following for all this dark fairytale and vampire stuff right now and D could become huge if it does well :)

He is huge, Paul. Hadn't you noticed? Even if it isn't picked up, his name is now out there. It's a huge step forward.

Fencing skills learned at Glasgow Academy all those years ago should come in useful from now on, not to mention the military training in the Combined Cadet Force

(Ah those were the days when teachers used to work overtime for the kids, once upon a time before the govt decided to force them to work overtime jaw jaw jawing in jargon at snail pace meetings!)

For most shows the initial script is just that. Changes are made at read throughs and rehearsals. That's why the writers is often involved as a producer, as Steinberg is in this case. How can you possibly judge if a romance on a page of writing will work acted out unless you know who're playing the roles and what sort of acting ability they have? Even then a lot depends on the chemistry between the two people.

This script sounds like it owes much to the less well known elements in a French version of Beauty and the Beast.

Villeneuve's versionVilleneuve's tale includes several elements that Beaumont's omits. Chiefly, the back-story of both Belle and the Beast is given. The Beast was a prince who lost his father at a young age, and whose mother had to wage war to defend his kingdom. The queen left him in care of an evil fairy, who tried to seduce him when he became an adult; when he refused, she transformed him into a beast. Belle's story reveals that she is not really a merchant's daughter but the offspring of a king and a good fairy. The wicked fairy had tried to murder Belle so she could marry her father the king, and Belle was put in the place of the merchant's dead daughter to protect her.[5] She also gave the castle elaborate magic, which obscured the more vital pieces of it.[6] Beaumont greatly pared down the cast of characters and simplified the tale to an almost archetypal simplicity.[7]

Spike Darius's hair/ give him a helmet and some Samurai type boots and he wouldn't be too far off that 7 foot!

I doubt his hair will show - his face wont. Instead of flat shoes he could wear boots and the mask would add the rest. Not difficult for him.

That would be nice. I can't wait (well I can b ut don't want to) to see what they turn him into. Darius has always liked that kind of thing. His parents would rather see his face though - and I must admit, so would I.

mm, wonders, I loved the tv series we saw, though it wasnt ouat or grim from what I can make out from online- they ensured Mr Wolf was quite the sex interest imo. also liking the fact Disney owns ABC..I mean, love Nicholas Cage as I do, and as much as I liked the Rock in the Scorpian film..they are getting on,as is Jonny Depp, bless him, another of my fav actors - lol.. I can imagine Darius as a quite superb scorpian king type, they need some new tall dark handsome MEN types, I must stop getting carried away I know,

I think it's really good that people like David Foster are seeing Darius perform up close and personal in a small venue. There's no hiding place in that kind of situation.

If there's anyone who could give Darius constructive criticism about his music, David Foster's got to be one of the best.

It's a shame the Scottish Disney animated film Brave came too soon. Darius's voice would have been great for the bear. assuming of course that animals in Disney tend to talk and sing.

Darius is a baby in the world of US TV. He's going to be on such a steep learning curve and working in mask, if it's a full face one, will present him with an even greater acting challenge.

Darius has his Beauty(Princess Grace).!

She's Ruth Bradley, an Irish actress.

Is Grace's mysterious connection with Shiro that they're both Celts?

Only joking but seriously, I think i like this casting.

Scotland/Ireland - two of the most romantic old countries, whose land and culture are steeped in myth, mystery and legend and no stranger to fights and rebellion either.

If any actors should be able to tap into the vibes of this show as described, these two should.

I also think it's good that the two leads go into this US pilot as unknowns, unburdened by the memory of any other characters they've played.

Shame! I was rather hoping for the Lincoln/ Culzean mane, hair wise.

Me too! :yahoo:

Surely the mask will only be a half mask, covering one side of his face. If not, what a waste of such a handsome boat! :D

Does anyone have an idea of when the pilot will be filmed and aired at all?

Casting has to be finished first. Can any one remember when Natasha started filming 'Secret Circle'? That may give us an idea. The pilot was shown first and then the series

They've got the main roles now. I reckon they're short of Beauty's father and her sisters. However no TV show is shot in sequence, so they could start without them.

I don't think they'll build new sets for the pilot. They'll probably use some existing ones, maybe even part of Once Upon A Time's.

They've probably cast minor roles in Canada and they'll use local extras for courtiers etc.

The pilots are made and shown to the networks execs who will decide yay or nay and the new schedule for Autumn will be announced in May. Hopefully BatB will be on it.

Some more info on the plot

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (ABC) - Irish actress Ruth Bradley has scored the title role on the pilot, a drama set in a mythical city where its princess is tasked with quelling a rebellion. She'll play Grace, the stunning, brave princess of Kendan alongside the previously cast Darius Campbell as the beast Shiro, a mercenary for the rebels. Yves Simoneau is directing the ABC Studios-based hour from a script by Jonathan E. Steinberg. Chris Egan and F. Murray Abraham also star. (Deadline.com)

Another beauty and the beast article I thought id post it

ABC’s Beauty and the Beast has cast its leads

All major actors have now been cast for ABC’s Beauty and the Beast.

We previously reported that the show’s secondary male role, the part of the beauty’s fiancé, Gorrick, will be played by Chris Egan.

Now we have confirmation the beast will be played by Darius Campbell, known mostly in Scotland as a singer, while beauty will be played by Ruth Bradley, known for her role in Primeval.

The beauty in this telling will be Grace, the princess of an as yet undisclosed medieval kingdom. Grace forms an undeniable bond with her bodyguard, Shiro – he’s the beast. There is no official synopsis for the series out yet.

The pilot is being written by Jon Steinberg, who will also exec produce the show. His most recent project was Human Target, and before that: Jericho. Both good shows which didn’t last long. We’ll see if he has better luck with the whims of the fickle television audience with this one.

There is also a show called Beauty and the Beast in development over at the prime-time only young adult drama network, The CW, though it’s a remake of the 80’s series which starred Linda Hamilton & Ron Perlman. In addition, a film is in the works called Beauty, which adapts the novel of the same name.

Barring delays, both shows should be on the air this fall. The film is still in the early stages of development, and has no announced production or release dates.
