The fact that he was picked up so early - only one other casting made, speaks volumes for his ability

The casting director was, I believe, Deb Aquila of Aquila-Wood, very experienced and very well respected.

Chris Egan the other actor cast so far, is on a talent holding scheme with ABC. The scheme is a bit like the old studio system but much less draconian and only ties the actors down for a year or two. The network will probably prefer to cast suitable actors from within their own talent pool first.

Hope he's still recognisable with it on.

I'm being a wee hypocrite because I wouldn't ever have minded Darius doing Phantom and he'd have to wear a mask for that.

Mum wanted to know if he'll have to wear his mask all the time now. I told her, only when he's working on this part. I like that he's not been cast for being attractive and his name being known will help him. I really like the thought of this role.
I thought it was LA but not certain

I hope it was in LA if his 'gig' at Vibrato's is sold out for tonight..... otherwise there is going to be a lot of very disappointed people!! :D

looking at all the casting stories makes me aware of how little I know about actors

His casting does seem to have been done very early, given that there are lots of experienced TV and movie actors still not attached to any particular project. Some sites have speculated about ABC wanting to 'lock' him into the show.

It's great if that is so. However ................

......I'm a tad concerned that if the pilot does not go to a series, ABC may try to lock him into one of their talent holding deals and narrow his later options.

He'd be back in the situation he fought so hard to free himself from - execs controlling his career.

It may work that he gets priority next round if it wasn't taken up - which is quite good

Most people would see such a deal as a privilege. I'm not sure Darius would.

You know him better than most. Do YOU think he'd be able to accept the constraints?

What if it meant abandoning all of his other projects including the work he's been doing with Stuart on his album?

He's a stickler for friendship and loyalty, and not letting people down. That could cause him to make wrong choices in the cutthroat world he's unexpectedly been tossed into.

It would be next February that it'd come into play. I think this show that the 2yrs he took off to study acting payed off very well. Getting a start is the hardest part of developing a career as an actor.

So these pilots are for series starting in 2013? I thought they were for "Fall" 2012.

Shows you I have no real sense of how long it takes to produce a drama programme.

This pilot would be to start this year. If it didn't get taken up, the next lot of pilots would begin Jan - Fen 2013

Thanks, pip. Darius must be wearing big shoes and a tall mask if this is right. I wouldn't take much notice of his reaction - I'll wait and see if any real bits come through. It sounded very promising - even more with Darius in it.
