March 5, 201213 yr They've apparently now cast a young Australian actress, Meegan Warner. I don't know what part she's playing though.
March 6, 201213 yr Author This was on google. This is pilot season in Hollywood. Executives of the broadcast networks have considered all the pitches and read all the scripts for new series. The next step, for the lucky ones, is “going to pilot.” Making a pilot episode is a big deal — and an expensive production, which requires casting actors, assembling a writing staff, hiring crew members and creating sets. In a best-case scenario, the pilot will be picked up as a series, and the episode being produced now will be shown to advertisers at the May “upfronts” as the networks announce their fall schedules. Most pilots, however, go nowhere. The network passes, the actors and writers are released, and the sets are torn down. The pilot generally goes unseen. As long as you take pilot announcements with the necessary skepticism, though, they provide an interesting preview of how the next season could look.
March 6, 201213 yr I'm sure Darius knows how pilot season works. I don't expect he thought he would get a lead role so early. He'll do what he does with every new challenge. He'll learn from those who are more experienced, work hard and enjoy it for as long as it lasts. If it doesn't get picked up, he's got one more non-musical role on his CV. His casting must have raised eyebrows. I dare say it's quite common for actors who're unknown in the US to get big roles. However, casting a MUSICAL theatre actor with virtually no tv acting experience in a dramatic lead role, must be uncommon and I think other production companies would be curious to give him the once over.
March 6, 201213 yr Author As I've said before - he must have really impressed them to be cast in the lead. OIt's all good experience. I'd love it to be picked up - I'd love to see the pilot even if it wasn't May seems a long way off
March 7, 201213 yr I think it's interesting that there's only one American (of Italian descent) in the core cast of this pilot and wonder if that is deliberate, in order to 'neutralise' the mythical city. Ive been thinking of the time as being in the misty past but the series could equally well be futuristic , couldn't it? Those were the thoughts which crossed my mind when I wondered if Darius would use his own accent or revert to the received pronounciation English he used when he read for Paradise Lost. That reel was made by ICM/Media. It's good to have it confirmed that they are Darius's agency. ICM are one of the top 5 agencies in L.A. They're choosy about whom they take on and they can open all the doors for their clients. BTW Channel 5 are showing the Once Upon A Time series soon. I saw it advertised a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I didn't catch when! Edited March 7, 201213 yr by Baytree
March 7, 201213 yr interesting, I did wonder the same thing, I think American accents kill fantasy stuff dead tbh. I must try to catch OUAT
March 7, 201213 yr There's definitely a rumbling about how many leads have gone to non-Americans this season. Apparently the move away from mainly Americans has been going on for a decade but this year it's happened on a lot of the pilots commissioned by the networks. I wasn't too happy to read on one site that Princess Grace is not just embattled but also love torn, not because I don't know that the latter is integral to the original source, but because I'm concerned there will be unnecessary and protracted scenes which will detract from, rather than add, to character and plot development. It's never good to spin out a plot too thinly. I hope they don't beef up that aspect of the original story. I know it has to be there but please, let there be an intriguing and well written plot with plenty of action and witty dialogue involving the hopefully feisty princess. What's the original source of this princely fiance? I know Gaston was in the Disney version but he wasn't in the original fairy tale. Edited March 7, 201213 yr by Baytree
March 7, 201213 yr Author He wasn't the King's favourite either in Disney. I just hope we get shown some of the effects from the pilot. What a waste if it just disappeared which most do even when they are ocied up as a series
March 7, 201213 yr Author https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=362...pe=1&ref=nf Rachel found this
March 7, 201213 yr Thank you for posting it here. I wondered what Rachel had posted on facebook today. Something new for Darius. Hope he works hard and enjoys it.
March 8, 201213 yr Author He will love it - really his type of thing. He enjoys most things though - just throws himself into them
March 8, 201213 yr I hope that Darius told them he broke his neck only 18 months ago and that he takes reasonable care while he's all enthusiastic and throwing himself into it.
March 9, 201213 yr Apparently the filming has started. Spoiler alert -contains some plot info http://io9.com/5891703/tv-pilot-watch-the-...y-and-the-beast
March 9, 201213 yr What? Darius? He's probably forgotten all about that now Forgotten now??? He'd forgotten up in Scotland about 6-8 weeks after doing it whilst still wearing his neck brace, he decided to jump off a 5 foot stage :o and then again in the August at Crewe Carnival(neck brace still being worn overnight at that time) :o You're definately right, he leaves the worrying for us to do  Thanks for the info BT :)
March 9, 201213 yr Author Thanks, BT . I really hope we get to see it - I'm looking forward to it already
March 9, 201213 yr I think it would be better grittier, 'more like Game of Thrones than Disney' and if it's planned to go out after the watershed surely that would be alright even on a network? The former would give Darius more of a challenge and boy, does that man love challenges.
March 9, 201213 yr Author Good enough to say twice, BT. I will be so disappinted if it doesn't get shown here. It sounds right up my street
