Here is the same thing again from a different site which says the source is an ABC press release

Confused? You bet I am.

ABC or rather one of Hollywood's most experienced casting directors, cast an unknown actor with minimal TV experience in drama, who didn't tick the box for a key element in the show?

They were nowhere near the casting deadline either.

Of course I'm really pleased they did it nevertheless, tinged with some sense of loss re the album, but the reasoning behind it defeats my logic.

The only sensible conclusion I can draw is that Darius quite simply blew the other auditionees out of contention.

This sounds like one of the first synopsis of Beauty and the Beast. Haven't they said since it isn't a romance? And what do they mean by

'a tragically heroic beast'? In later synopsis he's not a human. I really want to see what it ends up as.

Oh, and thanks BT.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (ABC) - Scottish actor/singer Darius Campbell has booked one of the title roles on the pilot, a drama set in the mythical city of Kendan where its princess, Grace, is tasked with quelling a rebellion. He'll play the beast, Shiro ("features a bit like a bull, a bit like a wolf; but the eyes... there's nothing animal about them"), once the Holy Protector to the Emperor, now a mercenary for the rebels. Chris Egan also stars in the ABC Studios-based hour, from director Yves Simoneau and writer Jonathan E. Steinberg. (Deadline.com)

I think this will be still the same as his face mask was started a few days later

A bull and a wolf are very different creatures.

Then again, the wolf has many fairy tale connections. The bull has more connections with mythology.

Maybe it will work for an undefined fantasy realm with power struggles, murder and rebellion at its heart just like the ancient world.

I don't like the sound of tragically heroic. How come tragic............. he dies?

well, Darius' eyes will be perfect - they stare into your soul..and are ehe softest,,kindest eyes - cant imagine the beast - I know Disneys Gnu was an odd idea, but bull come wolf..mind boggling, I thought somewhere said it wasnt going to be a romantic tale - I suppose Beauty and the beast would be a story if he died too early..perhaps he sacrifices his life for her in the end, and she marries her fiance..god this is intriguing

Maybe his heroism in the past has led to him becoming this beast??? Can't see how they could kill off the lead character in this show, after all, it is entitled Beauty & The Beast, as long as that doesn't change

I've been looking at the logo. I like it. It's a bit Game of Thronesish (a burning shield) - a shield surrounded by mist with a sword instead of the 't' in Beast and something I can't make out behind the B of Beauty.

There are also two images in the purple mist. The one on the left looks like a beast but more like a lion than the bull/wolf described. The other one could be a ring? a rose, maybe? I'm not sure.

thanks, BT - I wish the logo was a bit bigger, I cant ame out the shapes round it, its great you are finding these things as I am coming across nothing -

IFTN (Irish Film and Television News) interviewed Ruth Bradley during a break in filming.

I haven't put up a link because she isn't free to discuss BatB and only talks about her other work - Irish series Love/Hate, the film Grabbers and of course, Titanic.

STV's moviejuice had a feature on Harry Potter World and one of the interviews was with Warwick Davis. He was asked about working in a mask and he said what I expected - it was hot, but he said two other things that surprised me - it was very heavy and he could hardly hear in it.

Hope Darius found his a bit more comfortable.

I'd love to hear that the pilot is to be taken up - last I saw they reckoned it had about 25% chance of being picked. I'd hate not to see it

If the last thing I read was correct then 4 of the pilots would work well with OUAT. A soap type one where all the residents were paying the devil seemed to get the best chance. I'm still hoping for B&B though - our one of course

Thanks, BT. I don't mind waiting if I could only know it was going to be picked up. Nice to see D mentioned first in the casting

As I said before, the pilot is one more thing on his CV. The main benefit will be to strengthen D's credentials as a bona fide actor, rather than just West End actor. The part is completely different from any he's ever played before and in a different genre.

Also, just getting the pilot has improved his recognition in the US as himself, rather than as Natasha's partner.

I'm still made up that Darius's first acting role in the US is substantial and not way down a long cast list or in the dreaded rom com - the sort of things I'd suspected he would have to do to get a foot in the door.

It is very good - I just want a little more - like seeing it. I'm delighted for him
It's that 'patience thing' again! Darius and patience go hand in hand. Doesn't make it any easier though! Sue
