Posted February 29, 201213 yr I only ask as I never normally do (partly as I'd usually end up deleting all but about 3 of them :D ) - That coupled with the fact that I spent time putting them together and then suddenly wondered whether any of you actually bother with them each month? Unknown Pleasures seems to thrive upon the mp3s but I've never had the same impression about this contest... Do they add anything for you that the links alone would not?
February 29, 201213 yr Yes, I like to listen on the way to school on the odd days I don't have anyone to walk with or in the car on a long(ish) journey and I just generally like to have mp3s of songs I like. True, I do delete a good amount once the contest is over, but usually I keep all songs I award points to and a few besides.
February 29, 201213 yr Mp3 packs are good when you like a couple of the songs from your semi/overall final and keep a few. That said I only keep around 3-4 per contest so... I do make an effort to upload a mp3 to the contest though to save some hassle for the host.
February 29, 201213 yr Always do. I don't start my judging on the tracks until I get them (well, I do preliminary judging through the links before they get put up). It makes it so much easier to switch back and forth between the songs and work them into my consciousness better. My computer can't handle 20 Youtube videos open at the same time, and if I close them... too much work. And I can set up a little BJSC playlist for that contest and listen to them while doing other things. I have honestly never deleted any of the mp3s, even the ones I disliked, mainly because there aren't that many of them that I can't stand at all and I can't be bothered to weed them out. And I still listen to them after the contest quite regularly. So yeah, all the work into uploading them is very appreciated by myself. ^_^
February 29, 201213 yr I wouldn't have time for the contest without the MP3 packs tbh. I listen to the MP3's to and from work and only just squeeze enough time in. Plus, I find if I listen to the YouTube vids, songs pass me by more easily, whereas I remember them more if I play them through my ears. :D
February 29, 201213 yr I find them useful. I don't use the mp3's to decide my votes in the semi finals, but I do download the packs to make sure I get hold of all the songs I liked in time for voting in the final.
February 29, 201213 yr I always download them if they're available and find them incredibly useful. This month though I just listened through the Youtube videos and downloaded the songs I didn't already have and liked (which was 15 songs). Took me an age to find MP3's for all of those 15 though, as a host compiling MP3 packs is a bit of a nightmare if people don't provide links!
February 29, 201213 yr Yes, they are useful Dandy. :D In fact, I'm now listening to one of the entries as I type this out. Sometimes YouTube runs slow for me in that it tends to take ages to stream a full video. If that happens X22 entries I would not be a very happy Hits. :(
February 29, 201213 yr I have a Buzzjack file on my computer, with all the MP3's, voting records, etc :P
February 29, 201213 yr Always. (I know this is only my second contest, but I was poaching them in the previous months :kink: ) I find listening on YouTube really awkward - having them on iTunes is so much easier, especially for when I'm out of the house. If I ever get to host - knock on wood - I'd demand mp3s with submissions, although now the fact this discussion exists makes that idea seem a bit unreasonable.
February 29, 201213 yr I tend to watch the music videos were available as a preliminary measurement, and then I usually exclusively listen to the MP3's until I'm completely satisfied with my top ten! :D I never delete anything either, as I'm a collector of music! And like Jerick, I have a Buzzjack file containing every song entered since I joined (or most them, at least. There should be something I haven't found or in some of the earlier contests there are a few songs I never got, since I didn't knew how to get them at the time) and I also have a file with EVERYTHING else related to Buzzjack! ^_^ Edited February 29, 201213 yr by Freeze
February 29, 201213 yr Personally, I have never used the MP3 packs - I just use the Youtube and SoundCloud links :) I can see how they can be useful for many people though, and possibly for myself in the future :)

Not sure that many people were paying any attention though
February 29, 201213 yr As did Dandy* in the opening post of this month's confirmation thread. Not sure that many people were paying any attention though  Maybe they were having trouble finding an MP3, because most people sent me one last month! There were only a couple I had to buy on iTunes.. Edited February 29, 201213 yr by Freeze
February 29, 201213 yr As did Dandy* in the opening post of this month's confirmation thread. Not sure that many people were paying any attention though  Well I would reject any submissions without them  I'm just power-mad though. I do think it's become an accepted and integral part of the contest, though, and as such people should be prepared to supply them.
February 29, 201213 yr Maybe they were having trouble finding an MP3, because most people sent me one last month! There were only a couple I had to buy on iTunes.. I think I'd draw the line at spending money to host the contest, particularly on tracks that I wouldn't like in full. That's where the high quality Youtube Video to MP3 converter site comes in handy :D Surely most people already have their entry on their MP3 player and could upload the file? If I loved a song that much that I'd want to send it to BJSC I'd make damn sure I had a hard copy of it to play it at my own leisure!
February 29, 201213 yr Author I bought three this time around - but all were ones that I'd be happy to keep. I would never pay for ones that I didn't like. Surely most people already have their entry on their MP3 player and could upload the file? If I loved a song that much that I'd want to send it to BJSC I'd make damn sure I had a hard copy of it to play it at my own leisure! Me too. I was surprised how many people seemed to not have an mp3 of an entry they supposedly really love (although I guess they do have one now! )
February 29, 201213 yr I never bother with the mp3s personally, but fair play to those who rely more heavily on them and tbh after each contest is over I've found myself sourcing the mp3s myself for the songs that I liked. I've so far got enough to use to compile a BJSC playlist on my iPod. If I ever host a contest (not that that will be happening anytime soon I imagine) I'd probably have to outsource the mp3 collection duties mainly because I'm hopeless with those things especially during busy months (January, May, June and December being generally the worst!). February 29, 201213 yr I think it's only fair everyone is represented in HQ, but I did like everything I bought! Couldn't find something in better quality otherwise, actually! Farahtyns' entry for instance.
