Posted March 11, 201213 yr Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know stays at #1 So it is a 4th week at #1 for Gotye & Kimbra with Somebody That I Used To Know, and a 3rd consecutive week. Rihanna & Calvin Harris We found Love was the last single to have spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1, that was on 2 different occasions. This is breaking the trend of a new #1 every week that was developing, in fact this week there was no real competition for #1 as Emeli Sande goes back up to #2 and Nicki Minaj advances to #3. The only main competition to speak of next week is likely to come from Alexandra Burke, and perhaps the aforementioned Nicki Minaj. Stooshe feat Travie McCoy - Love Me enters at #5 Hotly tipped new 3 piece girl group StooShe get this week's highest new entry at #5 with Love Me, which features US rapper Travie McCoy. The group hail from London and are the first act from the BBC Sound Of 2012 poll to score a top 10 hit single. Last year, the trio released a buzz single called Betty Woz Gone, both tracks come from their forthcoming new album Swings & Roundabouts due out shortly. This is the 4th UK top 20 single that Travie McCoy features on, only 2010's #3 hit Billionaire is he the lead artist on. Tinchy Stryder feat Pixie Lott - Bright Lights enters at #7 Ghana born UK grime rapper Tinchy Stryder gets another top 10 hit this weeks as Bright Lights enters at #7, featuring Pixie Lott. Tinchy's UK singles success is best described as hit and miss really. His first charting single Stryderman only made #73 in 2008, however he broke through in 2009 with #3 hit Take Me Back (feat Taio Cruz) followed by 2 #1s - Number One (with N-Dubz) and Never Leave You (with Amele Berrabah). This was then followed by several mid-table hits - #14 cover of You're Not Alone, #10 In My System and #22 Second Chance. #22 album track Game Over followed then #14 hit Let It Rain, both of which sold well in the long run. Tinchy hit #5 last year alongside Dappy on Spaceship, however this was followed by another flop as Off The Record only made #24. He now returns to hit making ways as he teams up with Pixie Lott on Bright Lights at #7. This is now Pixie's 12th top 20 hit in total since her 2009 debut, and the 4th straight top 10 hit for her. Marcus Collins - Seven Nation Army enters at #9 Liverpool born X Factor contestant Marcus Collins debuts at #9 with his cover of the White Stripes classic Seven Nation Army. Marcus was a contestant in last year's X Factor coming second to girl group Little Mix, since then he has been working on his debut album which features 2 covers (this and Jackie Wilson's Higher & Higher) plus 9 original compositions. Seven Nation Army was originally the first of 5 top 10 hits for US garage rock / punk band White Stripes, reaching #7 in 2003. The song has been covered by many artists ranging from rockers Audioslave and Hard Fi through to female singer Kate Nash and French soul singer Ben I'Oncle Soul. Marus' version is based on the latter version, essentially a cover of a cover. Rihanna feat Jay Z - Talk That Talk re-enters at #31 Barbadan super hit making machine Rihanna makes her return to the charts this week, as the title track to her current Talk That Talk album is back in at #31. The track first entered at #25 upon release of the parent album but dropped out, it is now back as it is now confirmed as single #3. This follows #16 peaking You Da One and massive million selling chart topper We Found Love, the latter is at #26 this week after spending 23 weeks inside the top 40. Jay Z is also featured on this track, he can also be seen alongside Kanye West on Niggas In Paris which rises to #18 this week. Taio Cruz feat Flo Rida - Hangover enters at #34 UK singer songwriter and producer Taio cruz returns to the charts this week as his new track Hangover debuts at #34. Taio's UK success can also be describes as a little hit and miss. His 2006 debut I Just Wanna Know made #29 followed by #26 Moving On, Come On Girl however hit #5 but was followed by another 2 minor top 20 hits. In 2009, Taio hit #1 with Break Your Heart but could only make #42 with No Other One, then #6 with Dirty Picture. He hit #1 again with his biggest hit Dynamite in 2010, which was followed by #8 Higher (with Kylie Minogue / Travie McCoy). This year, he returned with #3 hit Troublemaker but did not last very long. Now he debuts at #34 alongside Flo Rida with Hangover, likely to improve in the next few weeks. Flo Rida now appears on 3 of this week's top 40 singles - Wild Ones at #4, Good feeling at #33 and this one. Bruce Springsteen tops the album chart The boss AKA Bruce Springsteen gets his 9th UK #1 album this week as Wrecking Ball storms straight in at #1, beating the sales of his last Working On A Dream. Military Wives got the xmas #1 single with Wherever You Are and now get a #2 debut album as In My Dreams debuts in runner's up position. Lionel Richie gets his 11th top 10 album this week as Tuskegee hits #7, a country flavoured album of rerecordings in duet form. This is just above Katie Melua whose 5th album Secret Symphony debuts at #8. There are many other significant new entries from the likes of Gilbert O'Sullivan, Civil Wars, Just Fletcher (yes!) and Sinead O'Connor. Opinion I am still not tired of Somebody That I Used To Know so am happy to see it still at #1, I am actually beginning almost to like Starships by Nicki Minaj! I really like StooShe's Love Me, something a bit different from the Saturdays, Girls Aloud, etc. Not keen on Tinchy / Pixie but quite like Marcus' cover of 7 Nation Army even if the original is miles better. I quite like Talk That Talk and hpe it can go on to be a decent sized hit, not keen on Taio's Hangover yet but it may grow on me. I hate that Jay Z & Kanye thing and think it should be nowhere near the top 40 let alone top 20! I am impatial to Bruce Springsteen but good on him for getting another huge #1 album. March 12, 201213 yr Author Thanks for that Zeus, only time will tell how long Doris can keep that record for.
March 12, 201213 yr I've noticed that several Acts, who were big in the 1950's Singles Charts, have never had a UK Hit Album - in any Decade. These include Guy Mitchell, Al Martino, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Fisher, & David Whitfield. But, an Act who was never truly huge in the 1950's Singles Charts - Slim Whitman - somehow remained popular enough to have a 6 Week No.1 Album in 1976, & a 4 Week No.1 Album in 1977. As well as a No.2 Album later in 1977. Yet, he only had one huge 1950's Hit - 'Rose Marie' - 11 Weeks at No.1 in 1955. Other than that, he only had 2 No.7 Singles, & a No.8 Single, as regards the Top 10.
