Exclusive First Look: Beyoncé’s Atlantic City Concert Costumes

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2012/stylewatch/blog/120604/beyonce-1-300x400.jpg http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2012/stylewatch/blog/120604/beyonce-300x400.jpg

Her first show "ran rampant, functioning as an almost continuous high point," according to Ben Ratliff of The New York Times. Highlights included "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", "Run the World (Girls)", "Halo", "Countdown" and "1+1". "With her all-female band and 10 dancers, she performed with serious stamina and rigor," Ratliff mused.

The inspiration for the sexy concert looks was "modern showgirl," Ralph & Russo designer Tamara Ralph tells PEOPLE. The designers worked closely with the singer to create the four couture pieces worn during the sold-out shows. "Beyoncé wanted us to be really creative and create fun and edgy designs that had an ultra-glamorous feel to them," Ralph adds.

A team of 20 couturiers worked around the clock to complete the looks, which were embellished with more than 500,000 crystals from Swarovski Elements, in just four weeks.

"The most elaborate design was the black and silver pinstripe vest," (left) Ralph says, "as it has a corset base and sharp structural detailing which was constructed with stretch to allow for movement." Perfect for the singer’s highly charged concert comeback.

"Beyoncé always delivers energetic performances and therefore we take into account the comfort and flexibility of each outfit and the ease of getting in and out of the pieces with quick costume changes," adds co-designer Michael Russo. "It was an absolute pleasure to work with her to create exquisite pieces that dazzle on stage."

Luke James Talks Opening For Beyoncé's Concert In Atlantic City

R&B singer Luke James' career began buzzing a little over a year ago, and now he's on his way to having a career hotter than a Lousiana summer.

The New Orleans native recently received a call breaking the news that he would be opening for Beyoncé's highly anticipated Memorial Day Weekend Revel Concert in Atlantic City, and it's all seemed like a whirlwind of rehearsals and amazing music since.

Bursting onto the scene with his breakout hit "I Want You", Luke James has been working non-stop to fulfill his dream- music.

GlobalGrind managed to catch up with Luke during his rehearsal time with Beyoncé to chit-chat about opening for King Bey, going to school with Frank Ocean, and of course the juicy stuff-sex.

Check out our exclusive interview below!

GlobalGrind: How did you end up linking up with Beyoncé?

Luke James: Well, basically, that all happened through my manager, Frank Gatson who works side by side with her throughout her career. She’s known of me since I’ve started in this business and what not. And I guessed it just felt right. My manager approached her with the option of using me as far as an opening act and she agreed. So, that’s basically how it happened.

I know you’ve been rehearsing nonstop. Has Beyoncé given you any advice on giving a good show?

Her advice doesn’t come directly, it’s been indirect, to me. Watching her perform and her work ethic as far as rehearsing and all that kind of stuff, I kind of got that information from her that way, by just watching — just being a sponge.

Super fan Michelle Obama 'jets to Atlantic City for Beyoncé's sell-out concert'

Michelle Obama is reportedly jetting into Atlantic City to watch Beyoncé in concert tonight at the brand new Revel Resort & Casino.

The First Lady has made no secret of her admiration for the superstar - recently naming Beyoncé as the person she would most like to be if she could be anyone else.

It is unclear when Mrs Obama is scheduled to arrive in New Jersey and whether she is just flying in just to take in tonight’s show, according to the blog, the White House Dossier.

In an interview promoting her book American Grown, Mrs Obama told People magazine: 'I'd be Beyoncé. I'd be some great singer... It looks like musicians just have the most fun.’

Beyoncé’s three-night stint of concerts are the main attraction at the opening of the $2.4 billion mega resort in Atlantic City. The tickets for the shows over Memorial Day weekend sold out within one minute.

The First Lady will have brought the tickets herself although the bill for jetting to the concert could well be picked up by taxpayers.

Mrs Obama is unlikely to be disappointed by her idol who won rave reviews for her first performance last night.

USA Today's Elysa Gardner wrote: 'Backed by an all-female band and a tireless posse of dancers and backup vocalists, Beyoncé reasserted her unique pop persona; she was at once angel and seductress, cool diva and woman of the people.'
