Branded ‘2DAY’, the first schedule shake-up of its kind happened on June 22 last year and received a positive response. The next one is set for Thursday May 10. “Last year we worried that dismissing our daily 12 hour schedule was a crazy move – but we took the chance, and our audience appreciated hearing a variety of different programmes for one day only,” said controller of Radio 2 and 6 Music Bob Shennan. “A massive 81% of the audience enjoyed 2Day 2011 and we saw a 98% increase in listeners going online throughout the day to explore the Radio 2 website. With 2Day 2012 promising to be even bigger and better, they won’t be left disappointed.” Head of Radio 2 programming Lewis Carnie added: “Our audience’s listening habits mean they tend to tune in at the same times every day so they’re only exposed to a small amount of what Radio 2 has to offer. “The feedback we had from listeners about last year is that they thoroughly enjoyed the day, with 6 in 10 listeners wanted more of the same so this year, we’re giving them exactly what we want.” Radio 2 gave the following rundown of proceedings: Graham Norton kicks off the proceedings at 7am, with British roots pop band The Musgraves and The Organist Entertains host Nigel Ogden will be performing one of Graham’s favourite songs on a Wurlitzer. And a special guest will be taking part in Tune With a Tale - sharing the story behind a song that has a special place in their heart. Jo hands the baton to Steve Wright at 11am who will be presenting an hour of the very best in soul music, plus he will be speaking to some special guests along the way.
