Number 1 and Number 10 in this mornings i tunes update. However, Flo Rida has the gap reduced to 10% but that 10% would be of the number 1 version. In regards what Aphrodite said, my assumption is the 90,000 sales stand for the number 1 version and there will be more sales to add to that from the version at number 10. Gary has held number 1 all week so it is still selling, 140,000 looks quiet possible now.

The second version is starting to fall now, but the first is still hanging on to number 2..Im sure Gary can hold on but i have a nasty feeling Florida is catching up
Gary may be number 2 but the lead was so strong from sunday until Wednesday that i dont think he will be caught, the 2nd version may also be dropping but they will still be added together so number 1 is safe i believe.

Sing is number 12 in the Irish Singles Chart this week while over in the album chart is stands at number 61.

Number 1 is a cert in the UK, sales posted in the midweeks show it has 122,000 sales with Flo Rida number 2 at 47,000.

In the album chart sales are 59,696 which is so much higher than i thought so it could pass 70,000, when combined Gary will clearly sell well over 200,000 this week which is just fantastic.

Nice to see some international placings. The sales for this week are just phenomenal, i would say in the single he will have something around 135-140,000 this week and in the albums 80,000 is very possible. My only hope is that next week it isnt all complete plummets on both charts, on itunes he is still holding up quiet well so hopefully he can do the same next week, other wise his chart run for sing could end up looking like 11-1-11-74 out.

I'd love 150k but maybe im being too optimistic!

Amazed that this is going to be Gary's 14th number 1 single in the UK, what a fantastic achievement!

Sing climbs to number 1 selling 142,000 copies this week becoming the fastest selling single of the year.

The album remains at number 1 making Gary the first artist in 2012 so far to have the number 1 single and album in the same week :cheer:

True - congratulations are due for Gary's 3rd number 1 single (and the OBE of course).

Ya the sales are great and when you combine sales from both charts for last week and this, sing has now sold well over 300,000.

Wow, im noting down the time and date that Kath was nice about Gary :cheer:

I think he probably deserved the OBE for the concert (I didn't watch it however - but did catch Grace Jones hoola-hooping through Slave to the Rhythm when Jimmy Carr showed it on 8 out of 10 Cats last night). What a woman - and what fantastic legs for a 64 year old!!!! My son couldn't believe it was Mayday from one of his favourite James Bond films!

I think all the talk of a knighthood was absolutely ridiculous though. Maybe in another 15 years or so.

I still don't like Gary though - there is something not quite right about him - a bit phoneyish - but it would be silly to deny that he deserved some kind of pat on the back for the Jubilee thing. I do hope that the songs he writes for Take That's next album are better than Sing though (which I still firmly believe is dreadful).

Kath

Tell you what though - now that he has got some letters after his name - maybe Gary could exert some pressure on his mate David to do a U-Turn on his government's decision to cut school music funding by £16M. After all - £16M could buy a lot of triangles!

I like sing and i also liked shame but neither would be among my all time fave gary/take that songs. I wouldnt mind some style of songs like them on the next album but would more prefer the combination of mark and garys work together as they usually come up with great songs.

I'm curious to hear what the next album is like. I'm hoping for more input from Mark as well. Apart from Said It All - my favourite songs from The Circus were all ones that had been largely written by Mark (with the exception of Julie - which as you already know is not one of my favourite songs - EVER!) I hope after all the fuss that's been made over Gary recently that they don't hand over all the songwriting duties to him (when he writes a good song - he writes a killer - Patience, RTW for example - but on an off day - he can write as good a stinker as the next).

I'm definitely going to give the next round of concerts a miss though - I'll be happy to say that the last TT concert I saw was with all five of them.

How do you know that they were largely written by Mark? Mark and Gary worked equally on Circus, whereas BW was mostly Gary working with John Shanks, external songwriters and with Mark J Howard in pairs to think of lyrics or such (see Gary's autobiography)

I preferred Circus Live to Progress Live Kath, i thought you did too? As a 4 their next tour will probably be along the same lines as Circus, meaning alot more tighter and well organised rather than having to adopt solo Robbie into the setup whilst trying to not end up looking disjointed which Progress Live was at times

I can't see them changing the way they work this time, Gary will still write the music and will work with Mark, J and Howard and possibly a new producer to come up with lyrics. I hope they do keep it like that cos this way they have come up with fantastic singles and strong albums

When Mark is part of a song he in my opinion has a huge influence and one i like. I wouldnt like Gary to do even more song writing as the division up until now has worked a treat in my opinion and there is enough room for them all to work as they say.

In terms of the live shows etc, progress wasnt as good as the circus in my opinion but i am biased as i adore the whole circus era and i love that album, i did like progress and enjoyed robbies return especially that we got the fantastic the flood from that era and also love love but on the whole i much prefered the material take that as 4 delivered.

Sing is number 3 on itunes which is good as i expected a far sharper fall at this stage. Its now the effect of the split sales will come into effect as sales will dwindle and when split will make the fall sharper but at the same time im not overly bothered as its sold 300,000+ already, hopefully it can manage at least another 75,000- 100,000 before it completly stops selling, but even as it stands it can be deemed a success and not to mention it has added another number 1 single and album to Garys name.

I think you can tell. I'm pretty certain the songs that Gary sings lead on are written by Gary and the ones sung by Mark on lead are written by Mark.

You're wrong about BW though - in most interviews I've read (and in Gary's book) it actually confirms who originated which song. For instance - Shine was ALL Mark and Howard, Mancunian Way was Howard and Jason, I think - but I'd have to go back to my sources - that Reach Out was Gary and Jason. The one song that it was confirmed that they ALL wrote together was in fact the weakest song on the whole album - I'd Wait For Life (which admittedly did sound like a Gary-write-alone). I stressed the 'originated' as of course there was help in all songs (except IWFL) from other writers - but the bones of each song can be attributed to certain members of Take That. Having said all of that - part of me is convinced that Gary had Patience written a while back and was hanging on to it for a suitable time to use.

Of the concerts - yes - I did prefer The Circus Live concerts to the Progress ones - but I felt the weakest part of the Progress concerts was unfortunately the TT4 part. RTW came in with a whimper - and didn't sound half as majestic as it had on The Circus (or even more so - when it was performed during the Beautiful World tour). TT4 was a bit flat. TT5 was much more fun (and I'm not even a Robbie fan). Robbie's solo set was actually very, very good (even though I did take a loo break during 'Angels' - can't help it - I just DETEST that song).

No you're wrong about the lead vocalists Kath, its common knowledge that they have moved lead singers around i.e. Howard taking What is Love, Gary taking 8 letters etc because of various reasons.

You must be reading the wrong book. Gary specifically says that he wrote the melody and kept playing Mark ways of extending the songs length by adding the key change that they ended up using during the BW live performance of it.

Nah i enjoyed the TT4 set, i just wished they had come on with GD rather than RTW. That was the only problem for me in regard to the whole set list. But then they had to accommodate RW's solo stuff so RTW wasn't placed as it was with Circus.

1Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band 142,470 (174,930) Single

1 Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band 75,583 (115,558) Album

Great sales in both and sing is still number 3 on itunes so it should get fairly respectable sales again this week in the singles chart, very hard to call how the album will fair though.

Those sales are just so refreshing to see. From an album perspective Gary has already outsold quiet a few previous number 1's from this year already and he will pick up at least some more sales for another 2 weeks and hopefully more.

From the single perspective, all going to plan, the single will pass 200,000 this week, its holding up nicely on itunes thus far and will definitely remain top 6 this week and pick up 25,000 sales plus. All in all the whole release has been handled extremely well (even though i did inicially moan) and the ep was quiet expensive for what it offered but it still managed great sales.
