Green Day releasing not one but three new albums

So a lot of people have been looking forward to the new Green Day album ever since the band started posting video teasers online. Well it looks like you won’t have to be excited for one album…you get to be excited for three.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently tweeted that the band will be releasing a trilogy of albums called ¡UNO! ¡DOS! ¡TRE! and that they’ll be released in the months of September, November and January. He also pushed the point of a trilogy by releasing this short video filmed using the Action Movie app on an iPhone (which I love using, btw).

So either this is going to be their grandest concept album masterpiece or they’ve just written so many two-minute songs like they used to that they decided to stretch it out over three discs. Regardless, I’m just hoping that don’t suck.

UPDATE: The albums now have official release dates. ¡UNO! will come out on September 25th; ¡DOS! will be released on November 13th and ¡TRE! will come out on January 15th. Mark your calendars.

If they can keep up the quality and not have too much filler this could be interesting
Hope it's not like Stadium Arcadium with RHCP. Some very good songs, but with some absolute dross mixed in.

They've played an absolute load of new tracks live over the past year or so, someone very conveniently has made a compilation video of covers of thirteen of them:

A lot sound very old-school, which is fine by me in part but it'd be ridiculous for them to jump back ten years with no reference to the progression "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown" gave them. Despite what they say about "Cigarettes and Valentines" being completely scrapped when the tapes were destroyed in 2003 I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the new stuff nicked riffs and the like from those sessions.

I'd also like to hear a bit of Foxboro Hot Tubs in the mix this time since "Stop Drop and Roll!!!" was so obviously separated from "21st Century Breakdown".

I was a green day fan for a long time, but I have incredibly low expectations for this publicity stunt

What makes you think it's a publicity stunt?

Clip sounds interesting. Cover:

Same.. Im guessing atleast one of these 3 albums will be one that sounds like their older stuff, probably dookie though i'd prefer 1039/kerplunk.. that in itself will probably be a better album than AI and 21cb.

Shock horror, I really like on first listen. Not what I'd have expected from a lead single at all.
I hate it. I really love Green Day, but I hate this song. I just don't get why they chose to release a song like this; nevertheless make one when this style is what's made them shit for the last ten years. Beginning to look more and more like they've rushed out three albums with mediocre quality songs for the sake of it. So dissapointing.
Thisis what the 70s rock sounded like before Punk happened, Find this really very dull and it reminds me of Slade

First single proper (let's just forget about "Oh Love" given it's bombed everywhere) is "Kill The DJ", supposedly out on Monday. Billie Joe described it as a dance song which had me a little worried but this is supposedly the riff:

Not bad.

I quite like the riff but really don't like the lyrics on Kill The DJ. Not impressed so far
