April 18, 201213 yr I got as far as Australia by the Manics before realising I wouldn't agree with most of this list. Great song but in the 150 best singles in the last 15 years? No
April 18, 201213 yr I always preferred "Ms Jackson" to "Hey Ya!" anyway, but both are great songs. B.O.B. is probably better than both these songs. This song is insane in a good way: fVyVIsvQoaE
April 18, 201213 yr I'm not sure about the order at all. They are trying to balance, quality, their indie cred and cultural pervasion and not really creating a list of anything. Some of the songs they put above Maps and Everlong is a disgrace. Then some of the song choices are iffy, no Somebody Told me by the Killers. Foos only having one entry and no Best of You? Choosing Dog Days are Over ahead of Cosmic Love by Florence? Choosing Over and Over by Hot Chip and not And I was a Boy from School? 139 Coldplay – “Yellow” 136 Kelis – “Milkshake” 135 Kelly Clarkson – “Since U Been Gone” 132 Daft Punk – “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” 129 The Strokes – “Reptilia” 127 En Vogue – “Don’t Let Go (Love)” 126 Hole – “Celebrity Skin” 117 Blink-182 – “What’s My Age Again?” 107 Radiohead – “No Surprises” 105 Cornershop – “Brimful Of Asha (Fatboy Slim Remix)” 103 Lady Gaga – “Poker Face” 99 MGMT – “Kids” 92 Peter Bjorn & John – “Young Folks” 89 The Futureheads – “Hounds Of Love” 88 Jeff Buckley – “Everybody Here Wants You” 87 The Streets – “Dry Your Eyes” 83 Kylie Minogue – “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” 81 Outkast – “Ms. Jackson” 79 Blur – “Song 2” 78 The Verve – “The Drugs Don’t Work” 75 Manic Street Preachers – “A Design For Life” 74 Muse – “Supermassive Black Hole” 69 Kanye West – “Jesus Walks” 64 La Roux – “In For The Kill” 63 Rihanna – “Umbrella” 58 Destiny’s Child – “Say My Name” 57 Eminem – “Lose Yourself” 56 The Killers – “All These Things That I’ve Done” 55 Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Maps” 51 Sugababes – “Overload” 50 The Chemical Brothers – “Hey Boy Hey Girl” 48 Foo Fighters – “Everlong” 43 Mumford And Sons – “Little Lion Man” 37 Coldplay – “The Scientist” 35 Johnny Cash – “Hurt” 34 Gossip – “Standing In The Way Of Control” 32 Gnarls Barkley – “Crazy” 30 Robyn – “With Every Heartbeat” 28 the xx – “Islands” 27 Franz Ferdinand – “Take Me Out” 24 Jay-Z – “99 Problems” 23 The White Stripes – “Seven Nation Army” 20 Bloc Party – “Banquet” 18 Queens Of The Stone Age – “No One Knows” 16 Beyoncé – “Crazy In Love” 13 Jay-Z & Alica Keys – “Empire State Of Mind” 12 MGMT – “Time To Pretend” 11 Arctic Monkeys – “I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor” 09 The Verve – “Bitter Sweet Symphony” 08 Amy Winehouse – “Rehab” 06 The White Stripes – “Fell In Love With A Girl” 05 The Killers – “Mr. Brightside” 03 OutKast – “Hey Ya!” 02 Arcade Fire – “Rebellion (Lies)” Those are the only ones I would personally include in a list like this and not in that order. April 19, 201213 yr Also, why 15? Feels a bit random 2 me. Didn't decade lists just come out anyway, why the need? It's so recent to do anything like this. (I agree that maybe 70s - 80s could be interesting and also easier to judge)
April 19, 201213 yr Some additional notes a la OHMYGODTHELISTISSOWRONG: Blur's songs are also quite random, as are Oasis'. "Song 2" is an ok choice I guess but "Out of Time" over "Beetlebum", "Tender" and "Coffee & TV" seems a bit weird. Also the zillion tracks by The Strokes.. When "You Only Live Once" isn't even one of them.
April 19, 201213 yr Anybody up for doing our own version of this seeing as there's so much dissatisfaction with the list. I'd be happy to sort this all out.
April 19, 201213 yr 02 Arcade Fire – “Rebellion (Lies)” I don't still *get* them. I mean they're good but... Rebellion is a fantastic song though. Even more fantastic live.
April 19, 201213 yr The inclusion of Australia is confusing - it's rarely mentioned as a classic Manics single. If You Tolerate This, Masses Against the Classes and Your Love is Not Enough are a bit more worthy in my opinion. The ones you've listed are all from the fully post-Richey era and the NME will naturally want to mention him. I'd also say none of those three are classics, all paling compared to what the Manics did in their first four albums, but hey ho. Personally, if they had to take one from Everything Must Go, then it should have been Kevin Carter.
April 19, 201213 yr Total WTF moments with Oasis... Where are 'Idle' and 'Songbird' for example? Both very poor, Songbird possibly the worst thing they ever did.
April 19, 201213 yr NME quite hated Garbage in the past. Now they seems to like them a bit. They posted recently an article "Garbage still not cool, still pretty fantastic". Also Butch Vig ranked #9 on their Top 50 best producers ever. He wouldn't have made the list if he hadn't done Nevermind!
April 19, 201213 yr Also, why 15? Feels a bit random 2 me. It's the 15th anniversary of when I stopped buying it.

April 19, 201213 yr Speaking of Towers, that NME list didn't contain ANYTHING by Bon Iver. Can't say I'm that bothered by that omission.
