... well, did anyone venture to their local independent store last Saturday for Record Store Day?

I went to Cardiff Spillers (the world's oldest record shop, no less) and managed to get the Beatles box set, Janis Joplin's 'Pearl', The Cure 'Seventeen Seconds', Kate Bush's 'Lake Tahoe' and ABBA 'Voulez Vous'...... I missed out on the Gorillaz 12" and the Wicker Man 7" :(

Have you seen how much the above are going for on eBay right now? Scandalous.... I aint selling mine, that's for sure :D

Argh, ANOTHER person that got ABBA. I guess this is the problem with being in London I got to Sister Ray at about 7:15 and was already 160th in the queue, most of the big ticket items were gone by the time I got through the doors, but I did manage to get Hot Chip, Azari & III, Little Boots and the Futureheads, and the BF got the Wicker Man 7" :D Next year I need to go to a smaller town, got a mate in Leeds who got EVERYTHING he wanted...

Hey Tom - you were jsut behind me in thw queue.

I got to SIsterRay at 6:50am - got into the shop at 9:50am.

Got everything I wanted apart from Kate Bush, Bowie and Gorillaz - love my WickerMan and Dracula 7"'s

I went to Rough Trade straight afterwards and realised I just have gone there in the first place - a friend of mine did not get to the Rough Trade queue until 7:00am - but still got into the shop at 8:30am.

The guy in Spillers told me people had queued since 2am?! Good to see RSD really take off this year. Just bad that lots of the buyers seemed to be eBay hounds judging by a quick check of the site for the things I wanted....

Yes, it kinda defeats the purpose of RSD that so many c***s just queue up to buy the popular exclusives and sell them at a 5x markup on e-bay. Perhaps the shops should just say, 'Nope, we got none of those' to the people who queue up and sell their stock directly on eBay. But then that just becomes a victory for online retail. I'd love to think the e-bayers donate the profits to the shops but of course they don't.

I turned up 15 mins before my local shop (One Up in Aberdeen) opened and there was a sizeable queue, so I went away for an hour. Now the queue was inside and I queued for a further 40 minutes but got nowhere near the counter and had to leave to go to a meeting I had. Popped back 2 hours later and the queue was gone but I was still able to pick up the Smugglers Way flexi-zine and a Pains of Being Pure at Heart remix 12" from the 'dreg box'. Lucky I wasn't interested in the popular stuff.

Would have loved the Snowgoose LP but One Up didn't even get it in at all.

Didn't go to my local cos it's a bit shit, went to 101 Collectors Records in Farnham, which was mega nice, went in the middle of the day, got Flogging Molly, Frank Turner and Misfits.

Would have liked Arctic Monkeys, but none were left. As much as I like my limited edition releases and such I see RSD as more supporting indie music shops than getting myself goodies so I'm not bothered too much about getting RSD releases but more to make sure I spend a bit to support the shop.

Don't go to too small a town though, Carmarthen had hardly anything. They had to do a quiz to decide who should get the Kate Bush vinyl  And there was absolutely no chance of the ABBA 12" being there. The pains of living out in the sticks :(

There was nothing that I would be bothered with. I'd have preferred another Orbital track instead of Wonky and the Lana Del Rey 7" had mixes of Born to Die and Blue Jeans instead of the originals.
I was considering getting "Wonky" because it's my favourite single release of the year thus far, even though I don't own a vinyl player. THE ARTWORK WILL BE PRETTY THO RITE?

stunning! A variation on the album cover, with spikey edges.

The Kate Bush 'Lake Tahoe' picture disc 10" is gorgeous, too..... the ABBA vinyl is turquoise with glitter inlaid.... very nice.

I've not even opened the Beatles box set yet..... I'm in two minds about opening it, daft I know, but.....
