Posted May 1, 201213 yr Cian'S Monthly Review: April 2012 Welcome to the April edition of my Monthly Review which sees an increase in overall plays by 21%, thanks to the JOYS which are college exams. This is the greatest increase in plays since the 32% increase in November 2011. Nicki Minaj and Jay-z & Kanye West swap places this month as they drop from #1 to #13 and she jumps 12 places. Nicki's surge is down to the fact 'Roman Reloaded'. Initially cautious, the album really turned out to be a great addition to my collection, resulting in a record breaking 147 plays (the highest since I started compiling in Jan '11. Nicki also sees 4 of her tracks enter into the Top 10 singles of the month which really helps reinstate that April was her month. Maximo Park had always one of those bands where, what I knew by them, I liked, but I didn't know that much. Well due to the forth-coming release of their third studio album 'The National Health' I began listening to the first two studio albums 'A Certain Trigger' and 'Our Earthly Pleasures'. This is why we see them make an incredible debut at '2 with a whopping 105 plays. Gotye, Labrinth, The Maccabees all fought for my album of the month with the albums 'Making Mirrors', 'Electronic Earth' and 'Given To The Wild'. All albums fell short of 'Roman Reloaded', but we see Gotye was in a respectable 2nd place with 79 plays, making him 3rd overall this month. Labrinth 20 plays short reached 5th and The Maccabees 6th. Regina Spektor makes her debut into the Top 30 thanks to the release of 'All The Rowboats' which re-hyped her first album 'Begin To Hope'. Also riding on the back of a new single are Maroon 5 who's single 'Payphone' with rapper Wiz Khalifa enters at #3 in the singles and helps them jump 40 places into the Top 10. Top 10 Regulars, Ed Sheeran and Chris Brown enjoy another week in the 10, which is completed by Ben Howard who drops 7 places. The Vaccines, who are currently at #2 in the singles chart with their brilliant new single 'Why Should I Love You?' enjoy a surge of 103 places to #12. Swedish songwriter Lykke Li who is one of the few artist to have a #1 monthly single without Topping the weekly charts, re-enters the artist chart at a new peak of 16. The Black Keys are tipped for the Top 10 in May after charting at #20 this month, this months only new entry. In contrast the singles chart sees a clearout, with 10 brand new songs, filling all positions.
