May 12, 201213 yr Why is it that when new bands decide to rip off the 80s they pick the crap stuff?? There were tons of songs like this in 1984 and they all flopped because they were dull. This adds nothing

May 12, 201213 yr As in it sounds completely deriviative and like something I would've found at the back of my ex wife's record collection. It owes more to slower tracks by bands like Espionage, Fashion, Boys In Darkness, Endgames, Blue Zoo et al rather than anyone who was any good. I don't hate the Twin Shadow track. It's ok, is a better song than most I'm reminded of and it does what it does well but it's kind of like a band wanting to sound a bit Britpop and then taking all their influences from Shed Seven or Menswear. There were so many great bands in the 80s The Smiths, Siouxsie, Pil, The Bunnymen, The Cure, New Order, Jesus & Mary Chain, Teardrop Explodes, XTC, Madness, Japan etc yet it seems to be almost embarrassing to have any sonic reference to them. (White Lies and BRMC aside). And if you really want to go the electronic route you should be looking more to early OMD, New Order, pre Midge Ure Ultravox!, Art Of Noise, Propaganda, Soft Cell. All fairly varied yet all so much more dynamic and lyrically more challenging. The Twin Shadow track is a band happy to stay right within a rather dour comfort zone.
May 12, 201213 yr I am thoroughly sick of this 1980s pastiche fad now. We really are digging the depths now.
July 30, 201212 yr Well I shamelessly love the album. I'll never get tired of The Smiths, Police rip-offs etc, especially when the songs are as good as this. AdEM-5-MwvA
August 2, 201212 yr Very likeable album, isn't it. Definitely sounds like something you would have heard before and as this is my first album of his, (knew about 'Slow' from his previous album) I was surprised how 'easy' it was to click with. I'll probably get sick of it by the end of the week.. Edited August 2, 201212 yr by Thomsen
