On May 17, 2012, Disco Diva - Donna Summer died at her home in Florida after a long battle with cancer. Aged 63

Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines she gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s. She had a mezzo-soprano vocal range, and was a five-time Grammy Award winner.

Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the US Billboard chart, and she also charted four number-one singles in the United States within a thirteen-month period.

She had nearly 40 UK top 75 hits including 9 top 10s including one #1.

She was my favourite female singer from the disco era.

R.I.P. Donna

Here's some of her biggest hits:

Love To Love You Baby - #4 in 1976

I Feel Love - #1 in 1977

Love's Unkind - #3 in 1977

MacArthur Park - #5 in 1978

Hot Stuff - #11 in 1979

RIP Donna. Not too familiar with her material since she wasn't active during my adolescence or adulthood, apart from "I Will Go With You" - the only song of hers I remember hearing on the radio back in 1999

She was at the forefront of disco. A case could be made that Love to Love You Baby was the first disco song of all time. RIP
