SO many people keep saying 'ITS ALL POLITICZ!!!1' (mostly Russian, Ukranians, Belarusians, who ALWAYS support Belarusian entries no matter what it is while moaning about neighbourly vote (and surprise-surprise POLITICZ) every year - talk about pot-kettle-f***ing-black?! :D ), also that 'Scandinavian nations aren't really hated by anyone hence they do well'. First of all, Belarus haven't sent a worthy song since 2007, so guess why 'Europe hates Belarus'. :manson: Second of all, everyone's love for Scndinavia doesn't hinder Norway to do AWFUL in the past 3 years, Sweden DNQing in 2010 and Finland missing the Final every two years.

There's ALWAYS an excuse for your country/favourite to not do well, and it's definitely not QUALITY of a song.

Love Will Set You Free is a very good song, and was performed very well, however it's by somebody whose career was at its peak 50 years ago, it's dated as hell and he went on first, before a multitude of other ballads.

Blue came top 5 in the televote last year on the other hand. Clearly all political!

The UK press ALWAYS make something out of it being political when we finish bottom five but before opening their mouths this time they might like to consider that Sweden won and Spain/Italy are top ten, whilst countries with many neighbours who have apparently benefitted from political voting before (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece etc...) have found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

People moan about neighbourly voting from the Eastern blocs should just look at this really:

1 1 Sweden 221

2 2 Russia 147

3 3 Serbia 126

4 5 Albania 100

5 6 Estonia 91

6 8 Germany 80

7 10 Spain 79

8 7 Turkey 60

9 4 Azerbaijan 58

10 9 Italy 56

11 12 Romania 52

12 16 Cyprus 45

13 11 Moldova 44

14 20 Iceland 36

15 19 Ireland 36

16 14 Lithuania 28

17 18 Bosnia & Herzegovina 20

18 17 Greece 20

19 23 Denmark 19

20 15 Ukraine 18

21 22 France 16

22 13 F.Y.R. Macedonia 10

23 24 Hungary 9

24 21 Malta 9

25 26 Norway 7

26 25 United Kingdom 5

That's made up of the following countries votes: Austria Belgium Cyrpus Denmark Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Israel Italy Malta Norway Portugal San Marino Slovakia Spain Sweden Switzerland Netherlands Turkey UK

Only Macedonia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine particularly benefitted from it. If the rest of Europe vote for Serbia, Russia and Albania in such large numbers why shouldn't they?!

I found it quite funny that Russia collected points from ALL (!) of the countries except Switzerland (who awarded us EIGHT points in the Semi - weird), never got more than one 12 but still finished second and very much behind Loreen.

Don't forget Malta doing quite well in the semis. It literally has no proper neighbours.

One day perhaps the BBC will understand this. We don't come last/bottom five the whole time because of a lack of neighbours (because Sweden has SO many to garner 372 points), we do so because they fail to grasp the concept of sending a relevant song with widespread appeal. Blue were close admittedly but it was still by an aging boyband, Loreen wasn't known across Europe so they don't need to search for a formerly big name, they just need somebody with a great voice and stage presence singing a fantastic song, is it really that hard to organise?

I agree, by looking at the scorecard Euphoria was given points by every country but 1, it had received lots of 12 points, the track was well received.

UK needs to go back and re-think, and take note from Sweden and previous winners, we need something more memorable and probably release the track a month early to gain support. Usually we have Song For Europe a month before hand, but in the past 2 years they are just picking artists to represent us and leaving the track till the last minute to release.

Nice to know that if ever we need a landslide win, we can always count on Scandinavia - Lordi, Rybak and now Loreen :D

2006 2009 & 2012 too so maybe it will be Denmark or Iceland's turn in 2015. :D

Just had a read of the entire thread. Nothing much else to add. Sure Melodifestivalen will be even better next year and with how much Sweden love Eurovision I wouldn't be surprised if next year was the best ever (although a lot of that relies on what everyone else chooses to send). Would be so amazing to go to Stockholm/Malmo/Gothenburg next year but everyone will be wanting tickets and Sweden is too expensive.

Does anyone know why Ireland were pushed to the end of the voting order? Surely it wasn't just to leave UK viewers in suspense about whether we'd reach double figures. :o

Sweden will also be hosting the Ice Hockey World Championships in May 2013! :o Seeing as a lot of the hockey will probably be at Globen, then Eurovision should be at Friends? I don't know why they're even considering Gothenburg and Malmö...

Oh, and POOR ESTONIA! They seem to only be able to qualify and COME SIXTH if they sing in Estonian and there's a landslide winner. :heehee: Still, amazing performance and definitely one of the surprises of the year for me! Albania coming fifth is great! The 'Wtf' moment of the night went to Lithuania doing well. :( And POOR DENMARK!

Also, the CHEEK of Germany not giving us any points! The crowd behind Anke had Irish flags and Jedheads! And we gave them 10 points. A complete reversal of last year.

Looked like technical difficulties to me. The transmission from RTÉ was flickering in the arena, so that's probably why I think.

After Eurovision 2012: I'm sure, that Italy is the best European country, because didn't give any single point for Sweden.

Loreen's performance was pretty good - the lighting, the snow, the choreography - all perfectly judged. It took a decent song to the level of a good song. It must have been good to be in the venue for it.

That's exactly how I feel about it. When I first heard 'Euphoria' before Melodifestivalen began, I thought 'Oh, this is average :(', but after seeing the performance I fell in love with it. Without the performance/camera work, I probably wouldn't have rated it so high.

UK ratings are in, very respectable indeed - 7.5m with a peak of 9.6m. Full details in Green Room thread :D

Nothing much to add, such a great final! I was surprised that UK did so badly but guess it just wasn't memorable enough. Performing first didn't help I guess but don't forget that Albania and Russia performed 3rd and 6th and did awesomely well.

I wanted Cyprus and Ukraine to do better but what can you do, this is Eurovision.

I counted beforehand that Loreen might get 330 points... 372 was a complete landslide! Congrats! Hopefully next year Sweden will have a better song than in 2000.

Finland would've made the final if Sweden and Estonia would've been allowed to vote.

Yeah, my mum actually mentioned this last night. That the song wouldn't be nearly as good if you stripped away all the camera work and unusual dance steps.

I'd have to agree with that assessment, I like the song/performance but I think I'd get bored of it really fast just listening to it on the ipod.

Euphoria clearly the best winner since the divine Every way that i can. Much enthusiasm and stress (only in the beginning though).

Amazingly how Rona ended top 5, although i expected her for a top 10 placement. And it would have been even better if Sabina hadn't finished 4th. Dull. Above Rona, Nina and Pastora? ΝΟΤ.

Oh and poor Tooji!

Azerbaijan doing so well was annoying too, although I suppose I can see how people liked it. (even though I'd argue there were many countries that did similar songs far better)

She's not a patch on Pastora.

4 years in a row top five for Azerbaijan now, I'd question whether they'll just be there forever now but even the mighty Greece slipped out of favour this year so maybe not...
I love how Safura was hotly tipped and a big favourite yet she's been outdone the past two years when they didn't seem to be in contention pre-final this year. They were my 5th favourite last night though, after finding the song dull at first I really really love it now and the colour changing dress was great.
If Azerbaijan keep sending amazing songs now they have done the past 4 years, I hope they do keep getting top 5s! :kink:
Sabina was overshadowed by both Pastora and Rona. Never cared enough, but probably Azerbaijan has the same benefit as Turkey, huge diaspora.
