Posted August 11, 200618 yr Ronaldo tipped to handle backlash BBC Sport.co.uk Wayne Rooney believes Cristiano Ronaldo will cope with any hostility from fans as he continues to come under fire following England's World Cup exit. Ronaldo was booed by rivals supporters when Manchester United faced Oxford United in a friendly on Tuesday. But Rooney told BBC Radio Five Live: "It was disappointing to see that happen because he is a great player. "In the last two years he has been booed at away games but I think he can come out of it a better player." Rooney also confirmed again that he had settled any issues he may have had with his team-mate, who appeared to encourage the referee to send him off in the World Cup quarter final between England and Portugal. "He's a good lad and we've got no problem with each other now. We're fine about it," said the England striker. "I spoke to him on the night after the game. I'm not going to lie, I was disappointed with the way he ran over to the referee. "But at the end of the day, we weren't team-mates that day. We were rivals. I wanted to win, he wanted to win for his country so we have to get on with it and hopefully do well for Manchester United together." Ronaldo's behaviour in that match and accusations that he had faked injury and simulated fouls is thought to have cost the winger the award for best young player at the World Cup. Germany's Lukas Podolski took the title. "He should have won the young player award at the World Cup but because of the criticism he got it was taken away from him," added Rooney. "I was disappointed for him, I think everyone at the club was disappointed for him. "He had a good tournament and I don't think he should have had it taken away for him because of that." Any comments?
August 11, 200618 yr I think they two of them have kissed and made up :( Well it seems that way to me at least, but Rooney could just be saying this to stop the media making their own minds up on the matter. Ronaldo got booed badly at the Oxford game and at the premiership games its going to be a lot worse. IMO Podolski was a better player than Ronaldo at the world cup and he deserved to win the best young player award.
August 11, 200618 yr Author Is this the photographic proof that they have kissed & made up? http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/5121/rooneyandronaldo6nt9km8ya.jpg :D
August 11, 200618 yr Rooney isn't THAT forgiving. When Fergie and many other United board officials said that Rooney and Ronaldo should do a public handshake Rooney was ENTIRELY against it. Rio and Gary Neville were against it as well ^_^
August 12, 200618 yr Well Stevn Gerrard has got the right angle on this issue ^_^ He's claimed that if Xabi Alonso or Luis Garcia ever tried to get him sent of, he's never speak to him again, and seen as Rooney is a lot more of a firey charchter compared to Gerrard I definitley think that Rooney has said this to try and look like him and Ronaldo are totally fine with the whole issue. -_-
