I still haven't received my Mandinga album :( It is coming from Romania though and I'm not sure what the postal service is like from there so it could be a while! :lol:. From what bits of it I have heard, it appears to be a very strong album! Loreen's next UK single, as you may have heard since, is a revamped version of My Heart Is Refusing Me which is an excellent choice imo! I'm not sure if vocals play a very strong part in Eurovision if I'm honest. As Rich has said on a number of occassions, the Azerbaijani winner last year was vocally very poor but it still won. I just think Tooji got a bit lost in the mix :(

I'm really surprised 'Timebomb' failed so miserably in the UK. It's easily one of Kylie's better singles in recents years and whilst it's not as solid as 'All The Lovers', it's still very good. Then again, 'Timebomb' didn't exactly set the Australian charts alight. :(

Y'wha?!!! :D No, I think it's quite safe to say 'Call My Name' won't be going to no. 1 in my chart. Yes, it's entered my Pre-Release because I actually think the song itself is good. Had it been by a better singer, then possibly yes. Performed by Cheryl, definitely not. Actually 'Call My Name' would've made for one fantastic Girls Aloud comeback single. :o Cheryl's vocals combined with the other girls wouldn't sound anywhere near as bad. :o

 

Also, why have you removed 'Warrior' from your list of faves when you even charted it yourself a few weeks back? :lol:

I still haven't received my Mandinga album :( It is coming from Romania though and I'm not sure what the postal service is like from there so it could be a while! :lol:. From what bits of it I have heard, it appears to be a very strong album! Loreen's next UK single, as you may have heard since, is a revamped version of My Heart Is Refusing Me which is an excellent choice imo! I'm not sure if vocals play a very strong part in Eurovision if I'm honest. As Rich has said on a number of occassions, the Azerbaijani winner last year was vocally very poor but it still won. I just think Tooji got a bit lost in the mix :(

It seems like foreign language tracks became a sort of flavour of the month, but can one of these very songs go on and win BJSC? My early odds put Shy'm down as the favourite to win - it just sounds like the type of song I'd expect to do really well in BJSC. No doubt by the time I post my updated odds for the final, this may well have changed. As for Tal, 'On Avance' just scraped into my top 40 (peaked at #37) so this has already way outperformed that single but also means Tal is no longer a one hit wonder for me. :lol:

Paulina is doing a Carly Rae Jepsen in my chart at the moment. It's sneakily climbing up - one of those songs that I can't help but like but don't think it's brilliant. Might reach my top 10 by Christmas!!! :lol:

It was mentioned in Chart Chat that because the BBC don't advertise, that might've explained why announcing the single was being released was low key. So low key to the point it was non existant. I find it baffling though when for years popstars were promoting singles on Going Live, and Live & Kicking - giving release dates and everyone live on TV. I just think the BBC's handling of The Voice was very poor hence the low viewing figures, and surprising winner. I hope Tyler James benefits the most and 'Higher Love' becomes the bigger hit. Find it odd as well that all these The Voice singles are only getting released now. Major flaw right there. :lol:

Is this the first time you've ordered an album from Romania? Hopefully you will receive it eventually. :o Yes, I read that about 'My Heart Is Refusing Me' being the next UK single. Also like the fact it's going to be updated as the original sounds a bit clunky ( :ph34r: ) in the verses. If they can make the backing track sound more like 'Sober' with elements of 'Euphoria' for atmosphere then it could sound excellent. It's already got the ch*.*rus so no problems there. :D Azerbaijan and Eurovision has been quite fascinating over these last few years. 'Running Scared' winning when previous tracks like 'Always' and 'Drip Drop' never made it was a surprpsing result. Maybe Azerbaijan simply benefitted from Eurovision 2011 not having a runaway favourite (which I don't recall it having?). I wonder if Tooji will have more hits in Norway? I don't even think Alexander Rybak has had any other hits in Norway since his win which is surely more surprising. :o

Yes, I really did. :wub: I stumbled across 'Warrior' not long after confirming 'I Can Be' by Ida into the previous months' contest. As soon as I heard this, I just wanted to enter it. In all honesty, I thought 'Warrior' was going to finish higher than 19th in the final but you can never tell how everyone is going to vote. I had planned on entering this last week but decided to hold its entry back a week to let Loreen claim her record breaking third week at #1 instead. :D Apparently so, which I genuinely didn't realise until I saw this enter New Zealand's singles chart and noticed the artwork credited Kimbra as the main artist. So I've gone along with and now hope this gets pushed in a couple of months time and becomes Batidas' second entry to become a monster smash. :wub:

Well, it's already outperformed previous single 'Charlie Brown' which I liked but didn't love. This is somewhere inbetween the two. :lol: The video makes a big difference though as it emphasises the song so much more with the visuals and styling. Being such a superstar collaboration as this, I'm surprised this hasn't been a chart topping smash all over the world. Maybe there's still time. :D

Indeed. :o 'Gold Dust' climbed all the way to no. 9, then 'Louder' spent four weeks at no. 1 and 'Hot Right Now' peaked at no. 2 earlier this year. 'The Power' is ok, but it's seriously lacklustre in comparison. I really would've expected something better from DJ Fresh and Dizzee Rascal. Glad this didn't make #1 in the UK, definitely not worthy enough.

What is the US version like? :o 'Warrior' is awesome for so many different reasons. When I comfirmed this for BJSC, I'd already known of the song for 3 weeks and worried it'd get veto'd. Thankfully it didn't and finished 19th in the final so it wasn't too bad a result. ^_^

As mentioned above, it's the music video that's really captured the essence of this song brilliantly, and that's helped bring the song to my attention more. Deserved top 10 hit but overall, I still prefer 'Paradise' and 'ETIAW' more.

Interestingly, Tal charted for me thanks to entering the HIT30 (btw check it out, you might like the new #1 ;) ) so I hadn't a clue you considered entering this into BJSC. So there you go, could Tal end up getting my 12 points in the final? :P As for Shy'm, she hasn't made the HIT30 yet so is most likely going to make an appearance in my chart after the final results have been posted.

Afraid not, but 'Touch Me' did reach no. 16 in my chart. 'Wondering' peaked at no. 11 which makes 'Taking Off' Electric Lady Lab's most successful entry in my chart.

 

28 (37) Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band feat. Military Wives Choir - Sing (37-28) [2 wks] :D (I'm not a royalist, but god save King Gary and Queen Robbie :kink:)

 

I'm not a Royalist either and I don't mind 'Sing' now. I wasn't exactly optimistic about this getting to no. 1 last week but see it climbing 11-01, I sort of wish it had made no. 1 last week as it's done the complete opposite of what I expected (plummet down in week 2, rather than rocket up).

 

39 (--) Leanne Mitchell - Run To You (39) [1 wk] (I think it was a really bad idea to release the album with the other winner's songs, Tyler is going to look like the winner of this, rightfully though IMHO!)

 

Well, Tyler was my winner by the semi final stage but Will.I.Am. really let Tyler down with some horrendous song choices. I hope Tyler never performs 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or 'OMG' ever again. I mean, what was Will.I.Am. thinking?!!! :blink: :lol:

I'm just a bit over it now, hence why the track didn't stick around no longer than 4 weeks.

 

Fair enough. :P

 

I'm still hoping that somebody picks this up in the UK and creates some buzz for the song. Then the airplay can kick in ready for its release. It's not on UK iTunes so surely it'll be released at some point?

05 (--) Reverend & The Makers - Bassline (05) [1 wk] I never expected them to come back so strong! Really looking forward to getting their new album!

 

Considering this was released as a free download back in February, I don't think this will ever become a hit in its own right, but I would be delighted to be proved wrong. Kudos to Mark for bringing this anthem to my attention.

 

16 (16) TAL - Le Sens De La Vie (08-16-16) [3 wks] Definitely my favourite of the French songs in BJSC this time! I think I prefer On Avance to it though

 

It seems like foreign language tracks became a sort of flavour of the month, but can one of these very songs go on and win BJSC? My early odds put Shy'm down as the favourite to win - it just sounds like the type of song I'd expect to do really well in BJSC. No doubt by the time I post my updated odds for the final, this may well have changed. As for Tal, 'On Avance' just scraped into my top 40 (peaked at #37) so this has already way outperformed that single but also means Tal is no longer a one hit wonder for me. :lol:

 

21 (--) Above & Beyond feat. Zoë Johnston - Love Is Not Enough (21) [1 wk] Fabulous to see this enter! Hope it can climb into the top 20! :D

 

Strange that I gave this my full 12 points in the final, yet since the results were posted I've found myself liking my 10, 8 and 6 pointer tracks more. Regardless, I'm sure this will climb next week. In fact, I think all the mentioned BJSC tracks will climb next week.

 

24 (27) Paulina Rubio - Boys Will Be Boys (35-30-28-27-24) [5 wks] I'm wondering when/if we'll get an English language album from her. I bought her last two albums, but most of the tracks are in Spanish. A lot of the tracks could work very well if translated into English too!

 

Paulina is doing a Carly Rae Jepsen in my chart at the moment. It's sneakily climbing up - one of those songs that I can't help but like but don't think it's brilliant. Might reach my top 10 by Christmas!!! :lol:

 

39 (--) Leanne Mitchell - Run To You (39) [1 wk] What a shame this bombed completely on the UK chart! I guess that's what happens when nobody knows the song has been released! I found it very strange how she didn't get the chance to perform it after she'd won the final!

 

It was mentioned in Chart Chat that because the BBC don't advertise, that might've explained why announcing the single was being released was low key. So low key to the point it was non existant. I find it baffling though when for years popstars were promoting singles on Going Live, and Live & Kicking - giving release dates and everyone live on TV. I just think the BBC's handling of The Voice was very poor hence the low viewing figures, and surprising winner. I hope Tyler James benefits the most and 'Higher Love' becomes the bigger hit. Find it odd as well that all these The Voice singles are only getting released now. Major flaw right there. :lol:

 

I still haven't received my Mandinga album :( It is coming from Romania though and I'm not sure what the postal service is like from there so it could be a while! :lol:. From what bits of it I have heard, it appears to be a very strong album! Loreen's next UK single, as you may have heard since, is a revamped version of My Heart Is Refusing Me which is an excellent choice imo! I'm not sure if vocals play a very strong part in Eurovision if I'm honest. As Rich has said on a number of occassions, the Azerbaijani winner last year was vocally very poor but it still won. I just think Tooji got a bit lost in the mix :(

 

Is this the first time you've ordered an album from Romania? Hopefully you will receive it eventually. :o Yes, I read that about 'My Heart Is Refusing Me' being the next UK single. Also like the fact it's going to be updated as the original sounds a bit clunky ( :ph34r: ) in the verses. If they can make the backing track sound more like 'Sober' with elements of 'Euphoria' for atmosphere then it could sound excellent. It's already got the ch*.*rus so no problems there. :D Azerbaijan and Eurovision has been quite fascinating over these last few years. 'Running Scared' winning when previous tracks like 'Always' and 'Drip Drop' never made it was a surprpsing result. Maybe Azerbaijan simply benefitted from Eurovision 2011 not having a runaway favourite (which I don't recall it having?). I wonder if Tooji will have more hits in Norway? I don't even think Alexander Rybak has had any other hits in Norway since his win which is surely more surprising. :o

 

05 - No, I somewhat doubt it will, but I had written R&TM off after their second album so for them to come back with this exceptionally strong track is fantastic!

21 - That sometimes happens to me too, but as long as you're still liking it that's what matters!

24 - :lol:, as far as I can remember it peaked quite high immediately and then dropped out after about 8 weeks on my chart. It was one of my favourites from the edition of BJSC that it was in!

39 - Oh right, I guess that makes sense but still it's quite a huge marketing flaw for the brand! I hope Leanne can come back with a strong proper first single and album, but I somewhat doubt it'll happen. I never really got the fuss with Tyler sadly. My favourites went out really early, Harriet Whitehead criminally didn't even get passed the auditions and Hannah was my favourite from the top 20 :lol:

 

It is the first time I've ordered from Romania. I think the postal system is a bit slow from Eastern Europe, iirc a postcard I sent from Slovenia arrived 3 weeks after I sent it and 1 week after I arrived back home :lol:. I'm looking forward to hearing the new version of MHIRM as I agree that the verses sound a little clunky. As it currently is, it would never work in the UK market. I think you're right there, when I first heard Running Scared I got a "There's the winner" feeling, but hearing their live vocal made me think otherwise - I should have gone with my original instinct when making predictions! I think I ended up predicting an Icelandic win in the end! France was being seen as the favourite in 2011, but I never understood why and it's result proved that. Tooji probably will release more music, but I doubt he'll get another hit in Norway. Rybak had another #1 hit with Funny Little World and Roll With The Wind also went top 10 iirc, but his success has been far more moderate than one would expect!
