Maroon 5 - Payphone enters at #1

US pop group Maroon 5 score their very first UK #1 single this week as Payphone is finally released and looks likely to sell over 100k in the process. The band first formed in 1995 as Kara's Flowers but renamed themselves to Marron 5 in 2002. They hit #13 with Harder to Breathe before scoring a massive #3 hit in 2003 with This Love. This was followed by #4 hit She Will Be Loved, minor hits Sunday Morning and Must Get Out. Then in 207, they hit #2 with Makes Me Wonder, which was followed by several smaller hits. In 2010 they could only limp in at #30 with Misery, the only single from their 3rd album to chart in the UK. All changed last year when they teamed up with Christina Aguilera for the million selling Moves Like Jagger, which stayed at #2 behind 6 different #1s last year. Now they are at a payphone which seems to have helped get them a UK #1, perhaps they should buy a mobile phone for the next time they spend all their change!

Stooshe - Black Heart enters at #4

Consisting of Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold, 3 piece London based girl group Stooshe score their 2nd top 5 hit this week as Black Heart debuts at #4. The group were signed last year and released a limited edition single Betty Woz Here, before Love Me hit #5 earlier this year. It seems that many people do indeed love them as they have enough support to beat their debut by 1 place with Black Heart. Their forthcoming album was to be entitled Swings & Roundabouts, however they have obviously left the playground and opted for self titled Stooshe for the title instead!

Katy Perry - Wide Awake climbs to #12

Katy Perry continues her rise up the charts as she reaches a new peak of #12 and she indeed is Wide Awake! This is now her 12th top 20 hit in total since her 2008 debut, including 3 from One Of The Boys and 2 collaborations. Incredibly it is her 7th straight top 20 hit single from her Teenage Dream album, albeit 2 from a repackaged version. Another track to reach a new peak is Avicii's Silhouettes at #22, reaching #26 first time around before dropping out and reappearing at #26 last week.

Re-entries for Justin Bieber, Florence & The Machine, Azealia Banks and David Guetta

There are several tracks rebounding back into the top 40 this week. Justin Bieber's #2 hit Boyfriend is back at #31 following his album release, Florence & The Machine's #12 hit shakes its way back to #40 after a price reduction. Azealia Banks' 212 and David Guetta/Sia's mega #1 hit Titanium are back at #37 and #39 respectively. It looks like the next 3 or 4 weeks may also see several reentries, as there are few notable new releases in the near future.

Justin beats Cheryl to the #1 album

Canadian teen star Justin Bieber enters at #1 with his 3rd album Believe this week, containing #2 hit Boyfriend and his 3 promotional singles. Justin is confortably ahead of Cheryl Cole (or simply Cheryl) with her 3rd album A Million Lights at #2, containing last week's #1 single Call My Name. Paloma Faith and Emeli Sande both make upward movement in the top 5, ahead of last week's #1 from Gary Barlow & co which plummets 1-6 after 3 weeks. Other new albums to enter this week include guitarist Slash, US country star Carrie Underwood, rock band Smashing Pumpkins and indie band Reverend & The Makers.

Opinion

I am very happy to see the excellent Maroon 5 finally get a #1 single with Payphone, Moves Like Jagger was very unlucky but still sold over a million. Call My Name is not a bad song really but just a pity that Cheryl has no real talent but is never out of the papers. I really like Stooshe's new song Black Heart, it's far better than Love Me which actually was ok. I also really like Katy Perry's Wide Awake (and both of her albums), better than Part Of Me which I also did like. Really not happy to see Justin Bieber get the #1 album, the worst of the non-singers with the top 2 albums this week! The opinion of this writer is not necessarily the opinion of Buzzjack in general!
