Posted August 12, 200618 yr (60's motown.... retro so not in the other forum :) ) personally i really liked the motown sound from the 60's. the flavour changed though into the 70's and that goddamn awful 'philly' took over :puke2: ok, it was the first 'hit factory', somehow though it was looked back on with affection, unlike watermans mobs efforts at pwl. footstomping beats, decent melodies, 'echo' effect production... dunno why some of todays artists dont tap in to this sound.... my favs are stevie wonder.... 'uptight (everythings alright)', 'i was made to love her' (the best love song ever!) four tops.......... 'bernadette', 'if i were a carpenter', supremes........ 'where did our love go', 'i hear a symphony', 'you cant hurry love', 'you keep me hanging on' martha reeves and the vandellas..... 'dancing in the streets', 'nowhere to run (nowhere to hide)' smokey robinson and the miracles..... 'i second that emotion', 'tracks of my tears', 'goin to a go go'
August 12, 200618 yr I was a fan of most of motown to, loved The Four Tops "Bernadette" and Smokeys "tracks of my tears", but my fav was R Dean Taylor's "there's a ghost in my house"
August 12, 200618 yr I think the reason why Motown is fondly remembered is due to the great musicians & vocalists at Motown in the 1960s. PWL never had the same quality on their conveyor-belt - although when they did work with major talent (eg. Donna Summer - This Time I know It's For Real) the results could be great. My Top10 Fav 1960s Motown tracks are (grabs Motown Gold 1960s 3CD set): 1. Jimmy Mack - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas 2. Walk Away Renee - Four Tops 3. Do You Love Me - The Contours 4. Reflections - Diana Ross & The Supremes 5. Aint No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell 6. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye 7. My Girl - Temptations 8. My Guy - Mary Wells 9. My Cherie Amour - Stevie Wonder 10. I Second That Emotion - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
