September 11, 201212 yr Author number 9 in the mids, not looking great if im honest Yes I thought he would be higher tbh. I'm surprised there has been no promo this week either. I have a feeling he may climb towards the end of the week but we will see I guess.
September 11, 201212 yr It would be fantastic if he managed to climb as he has done that before with his classic album in the midweeks, he appeared to have sold better at the end of the week rather than the beginning. I just hope he does not drop, if he holds a top 10 position it will be his third top 10 album which is makes his chart appearances looks more and more respectable.

Just seen that their is only 2k or so between him at #9 and the Pet Shop Boys at #4, so I'm hoping its not impossible for him to climb into the Top 5.
September 12, 201212 yr I've had this album on repeat since I got it on Monday. 'Your Voice' was my instant favourite, 'What Have I Done', 'Mayday', 'Rescue Us' & the single are all really good too. I'm also loving the covers of 'Somethin's Gotten Hold Of My Heart' & 'I Don't Want To Talk About It' which have become two of my most played which has surprised me a bit. This is without a doubt his best album and almost everything I wanted from him! I hope it starts to move up in the mids and gets a good position by Sunday, sales are obviously much more important than a high peak, but with the album market at the moment it's going to be a struggle to get a good total without staying high in the charts.
September 12, 201212 yr Author I think "To have a Broken Heart" is my favorite right now, but I need to listen again as I haven't had time to listen more than once :)
September 13, 201212 yr I love his version of Love of my Life. Actually it is difficult to decide which is my favourite - it changes all the time.
September 14, 201212 yr Author Joe up a place to #8 in the midweeks. He seems to buck all the other trends of being frontloaded! Hoping he can gain another place or so by Sunday.
September 17, 201212 yr He finished at No.8 in this week's chart. So that is three top ten albums and one top 15. He is the first X-Factor winner to release four albums.

The 3 Top 10 albums is good but the sales are not. He needs to start promoting himself outside his own front door. He doesn't even have many fans there as these sales show.

Have to agree with that... needs to spread his wings.. happy hes in top 10 just hope it can stick around for a while.
September 17, 201212 yr Author Have to agree with that... needs to spread his wings.. happy hes in top 10 just hope it can stick around for a while. I hope so too, but fans have been telling him that NE support he keeps going on about isn't there for ages. His fan base travels because he does everything there. Hopefully this will give him a jolt as he's been all over local TV, Radio and newspapers and given the figures probably sold about 2k there! And he had 2 signings..
September 17, 201212 yr Hopefully the album can stick around and continue selling, i do fear a sharp decline next week.
September 17, 201212 yr You are right Torresgirl. I live on the Isle of Wight and the chances of him coming to anywhere near me are almost zero. He definitely needs to travel all over the country.
September 17, 201212 yr I hope so too, but fans have been telling him that NE support he keeps going on about isn't there for ages. Why do you say this? The Classic tour sold out the first Newcastle night and a second was added which was near sold out too, plus there was a Middlesbrough date too - so I'd say his support there is certainly stronger (not surprisingly) than in other parts of the country. Of course he will have lost some fans when he moved from pop to crossover but I don't think it's accurate to say that the NE support is no longer there for him. He also gets good media support with the radio tours being centred on the north-east and north, the "takeover" slots on Metro Radio and regular snippets on the north-east TV channels' news programmes. We'd love him to have the same kind of publicity in the south and this is obviously not going to be quite so easy to come by. Which is why it surprises me that the advertising for the album is so heavily focused on the north-east and north. Yes, advertising in the London region is more expensive, but that is because it broadcast to a much larger population.

Which is why it surprises me that the advertising for the album is so heavily focused on the north-east and north. Yes, advertising in the London region is more expensive, but that is because it broadcast to a much larger population. I didn't say he had no support I said he's deluded about the amount of it. I went to a gig at the sage last year, the venue held 1300 or so and was only 2/3 if that fulll and most of the people had travelled. The top section was closed off as it hadn't sold. You make a good point about the massive coverage he gets up there, the TV news the Radio, the Gazette supporting him, yet even with all that and 2 signings last week his album sold a total of 10k countrywide! So I'm guessing (and of course I can only guess he sold a couple of thousand up there at best). I don't care if he's promoted there but some fans including me have been telling Joe for ages that focusing so much on his home town is making the rest of the country forget him. It's a widely held opinion. I have friends in London who when I mention him say they liked him but didn't even know he'd had a second album. The tweets on Twitter so many saying "Where is he" etc. You must have seen them! The strategy is misguided in my view. May I remind you that, all the nonsense about his local support he got dropped. Where were these people then? I guess after the hype has died down they wern't bothered. Even if the support is stronger (which I doubt) its certainly not enough to base most of what he does there. He needs to be more ambitious than wanting to be a local celebrity! His hard core fans travel to see him there because he likes performing there. Those venues would not be sold without them and even today you could still buy tickets for his launch tomorrow. This venue holds just 1000 ppl. Also even if the newcastle date sold out last year (a lot of fans travelled as I said) its not exactly a big venue is it? A strategy based around 2000 fans if that? He needs to think about what he's doing if its not too late already. Edited September 18, 201212 yr by torresgirl
September 18, 201212 yr He is very liked in the North East even if most people wouldn't actually buy his music, I've yet to hear someone say a bad word about him round here, if he comes into conversation at any point you can guarantee at least one person will say 'Aww I love wor Joe'. His music isn't very mainstream so a lot of people who like him might not necessarily like his music enough to buy it or see him in concert, but the general attitude to him is very positive and you can't blame him for wanting to be around that. There's also the point that he is well supported here in the media, like someone said above he's often taking over Metro Radio and stuff like that so it doesn't surprise me that he likes promoting up here. I hadn't realized he didn't really promote anywhere else though and if that's true it's just silly because you're never going to sell albums by promoting in one corner of the country. His first week sales were fine though, he was only 13 copies behind #7. Does he do national radio tours? Airplay would really help him and 'Here's What I Believe' is a good album seller, I'm not sure anyone has really heard it though.

I can understand he wants to be near home, it's interesting you say the general attitude is positive but if its not translating into record sales then surely the bottom line is at some point he needs to rethink as that is his living. It's a business. Up to him of course but not an attitude that's going to get him where I think his talent should be. For example I heard from people at both signings he had last week and although there were quite a few people there a lot of them didn't buy the album they just wanted a picture!! Hardly a good use of his time. The chart position was ok but 25k behind his first week sales of his first 3 albums? For me that's a bit worrying. I don't see any problem with him promoting himself there but he needs to take notice of the rest of the country more (his Radio tour has mainly been in the North of the country for example) and stop thinking his audience is primarily there. I spoke to his manager who said approximately 20% of his sales were in the north of England (not just the NE) which means 80% are spread through other regions. Every time he is on national TV he albums sales go immediately up. It's just a bit frustrating as I know if more people saw him, he'd be more popular. Maybe he feels his main support is there because like you say people are kind about him but in the end kindness and pictures won't help his career.
September 19, 201212 yr Well he is in London now and will be on the Alan Titchmarsh Show at 3pm. He is also on BBC Radio 2 this evening I believe.
