Posted August 12, 200618 yr Now 22 returns to summit of Billboard chart Source: Music Week Boasting a previously perfect record of five number one albums from five releases, DMX falls 1,417 sales short of securing a sixth this week, writes Alan Jones. The 35-year-old rapper’s previous albums were for Ruff Ryders’ Def Jam imprint. His first album for Sony BMG, Year Of The Dog...Again sold 125,739 copies last week to secure a number two debut, failing to pass Now! 22, which returns to the summit despite a 16% dip in sales week-on-week to 127,156. Last week’s number one - the self-titled debut album from former Destiny’s Child singer LeToya - suffers a much heavier 61% dip in sales to 65,074 and slides to number five as a result. The rest of the top five is filled by debuts: Kidz Bop Kids’ Kidz Bop 10 album - arrives at number three on sales of 116,990, while hard rockers Stone Sour follow at four on sales of 80,796 for Come What(ever) May. The Kidz Bop Kidz album is the ever changing juvenile act’s 15th charted album in a little less than five years, and provides their highest ever first week sales. Kidz Bop 9 arrived 23 weeks before Kidz Bop 10, and has thus far sold 435,737 copies. After six weeks in the Top 20, Corinne Bailey Rae’s self-titled debut album dips 19-29. Still the highest ranking album in the chart by a British act, it sold a further 23,869 copies last week to take its cume to 223,353. With two singles climbing the Hot 100, KT Tunstall creeps closer to Bailey Rae. The Scottish singer/songwriter’s first single Black Horse & The Cherry Tree rebounds 29-27, while follow-up Suddenly I See edges forward 74-71. Tunstall’s Eye To The Telescope album has now spent six months in the chart and celebrates its half year tenure by climbing 36-34, even though its sales are off 2% week-on-week to 20,491. Its overall sales are 555,610. Snow Patrol’s Eyes Open album continues its recovery, as second single Chasing Cars improves 28-27 on the Adult Top 40 chart. The album, which peaked at number 34 in May, has climbed 75-60-55 in the last fortnight. It sold 14,696 copies last week to take its 13 week tally to 197,008. On the Hot 100 singles chart, Black Eyed Peas star Fergie’s debut solo single London Bridge served notice of its intentions last week when it rocketed 84-5, the second biggest leap in the chart’s history. It completes its journey to the top this week, replacing Nelly Furtado and Timbaland’s Promiscuous, which ruled the roost for six weeks. Fergie’s track is getting massive airplay support, and also tops the digital sales chart, with 114,249 downloads sold last week, a 33% increase on the previous frame.
