Posted August 13, 200618 yr PREPARATIONS to head off possible violence on the streets are being made in the wake of the alleged terrorist plot uncovered last week. Talks are being held with local authority leaders in seven areas of England where it is feared tensions could boil over. New measures to win over the Muslim community are to be considered as Islamic leaders predict protests. Yesterday a mosque was set alight in what police believe could be the first in a series of revenge attacks. Ministers have scheduled meetings with leading Muslim organisations in which they will appeal for a united front against extremists. They are concerned by the public reaction of Muslims, amid evidence that many ordinary people are sceptical about the way the anti-terror operation was carried out. Last night, the government said it would focus attention on five London boroughs — Newham, Hackney, Barking, Dagenham and Waltham Forest — as well as Birmingham and High Wycombe. All these areas were affected by last week’s raids. Concerns have been stoked by the British National party, which held its summer rally yesterday and has a strong presence in several of the boroughs being monitored. Nick Griffin, chairman of the BNP, called yesterday for all Muslims aged between 15 and 50 to be banned from flying and said there was “no such thing as a moderate Muslimâ€. Further evidence of tension came early yesterday when fire crews were called to a blaze at Al-Birr Masjid mosque in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Police believe it was arson. Leading Muslims have warned of trouble if last week’s anti-terror operation did not result in any charges. Today's Sunday Times Could there be a backlash against muslims in this country if this plot is proved true. Or could there be a muslim backlash against the police/government if its not proved true?
August 14, 200618 yr Well, we've already had a vile racist assault on one of the blokes who was arrested in all this (and then subsequently and very quickly released, ergo, he has sod all to do with any ruddy so-called 'terrorist' plot... <_< ), so I reckon the backlash has already begun, whether these guys are guilty of a bloody thing or not.... And thanks to John Reid opening his big, stupid gob, the chances of anyone getting a fair trial are almost ZERO......
August 14, 200618 yr I am still a bit sceptical about this whole "plot", I read an article over the weekend that said that despite all these high profile raids and big headlines in recent years only 2 people have been convicted of any sort of offence so I can't help thinking that a lot of these "terror raids" are infact politically motivated to make the government look good and strong then are quietly swept under the carpet when the suspects are subsequently released with barely a whisper in the media I would not be at all surprised if similar situation happens here with the alleged plane bombers Edited August 14, 200618 yr by Ozzy Osbourne

Okay, there might be a few nutters out there who want to blow us up, but frankly there are a damn sight more nutters who probably want to mug me and beat me to within an inch of my life just to get my mobile phone..... Frankly, living in London I'm a lot more concerned about street crime than terrorism....
