Posted August 14, 201212 yr "Top Of The Pops" 1977 thread on here: it's a little behind the actual broadcast dates, but as people who like charts are on here, and ive been doing mine since 1968, I have a handy record of what I was into week by week, no convenient "Oh I was into the Pistols before anyone else" claims here: the shameful proof is laid bare - yes I liked Helen Reddy. I don't know why, give me the Pistols anyday (Angie Baby excepted) but there you go.... Appropriately at No.1 is the record that changed pop music forever, the sound of the future, this record came suddenly onto the radio and I went "Woah!" Sounding like nothing before it, and 35 years of dance music since, "I Feel Love" was an instant number One in my chart, a perfect pop moment that still sounds fresh. The Rock N Roll Hall Of fame should hang its head in shame, incapable of seeing innovative music for what it is, preferring bland rock acts much of the time... AUG 16TH 1977 1. August 15, 201212 yr Great Chart, John! :) Did you compile this chart back in 1977? Great to see Dreams charted at No.3. I've always regretted it's only peaked 24 in the British chart. True classic hit!
August 15, 201212 yr Author Great Chart, John! :) Did you compile this chart back in 1977? Great to see Dreams charted at No.3. I've always regretted it's only peaked 24 in the British chart. True classic hit! Hi Andrey, thanks for the comment:) Yes, I compiled this chart just before Elvis died and his reissues flooded my Top 40 along with the British singles chart.. Yes, Dreams shouldve been a Number One:) Along with at least 10 other Stevie Nicks songs, I love her. Dont mind admitting the other year when she sang "Gypsy" and "Sarah" on the last Fleetwood Mac tour I was sniffling in my hanky!
August 15, 201212 yr Yes, I compiled this chart just before Elvis died and his reissues flooded my Top 40 along with the British singles chart.. Wow! In that case your Charts are extremely interesting! Would be lovely if you posted the other oldies Charts from your collection. Yes, Dreams shouldve been a Number One:) Along with at least 10 other Stevie Nicks songs, I love her. Dont mind admitting the other year when she sang "Gypsy" and "Sarah" on the last Fleetwood Mac tour I was sniffling in my hanky! I also love Stevie Nicks. "Gypsy" is a perfect pop song. Quite strange for me that Oh Diane became a Top 10 hit whereas Gypsy didn't even reach the Top 40. And all that in spite of a lengthy video, the highest-budget music video ever produced at the time!
August 16, 201212 yr Don't like Fleetwood Mac, if don't count "Dreams". Real hit. Glad to see "Angelo" in top 10. Wait new old charts.

Have to pick and choose though, as they go back over 40 years (complete)! I agree Gypsy was awesome, Oh Diane merely likeable. My chart positions reflected the merits of each better! cheers! john
August 16, 201212 yr Author Don't like Fleetwood Mac, if don't count "Dreams". Real hit. Glad to see "Angelo" in top 10. Wait new old charts. Thanks Alex Yes, Angelo was a number 3 in my chart, the one before Oh Boy The Mood Im In a no. 2, 2 good singles I thought.:)
August 25, 201212 yr Author Of course, Elvis died on the week listed above, but it took two weeks for the chart invasion of his records to be listed, and so 3 weeks later before it registered on my charts - I was actually gutted when Elvis died, he had always been there for all of my life, films records etc. Not nearly as upset, though, as when Marc Bolan died later in the month. Anyway, I only allowed oldies that charted in my chart, so that's the chartweek of ... SEPT 6TH 1977 1. (3) MAGIC FLY - Space 2. (1) THE CRUNCH - The Rah Band 3. (2) WAY DOWN - Elvis Presley 4. That shoved a lot of records that would otherwise have gone up, out of the chart, such as Alice Cooper. Ahhh.
September 2, 201212 yr Never was a fan of any male artist, so my most possible # 1 for this week: Meri Wilson - Telephone Man "Wooden Heart" is my favourite Elvis song. Sad, that your chart is not include "His Latest Flame".
September 2, 201212 yr Author Never was a fan of any male artist, so my most possible # 1 for this week: Meri Wilson - Telephone Man "Wooden Heart" is my favourite Elvis song. Sad, that your chart is not include "His Latest Flame". Thanks Alex, His Latest Flame eventually made No.1 in my chart in the reissue campaign of 8 or 9 years back, and I agree its one of his very best records, though rock critics tend to dismiss it. What do they know anyway, they were busy slagging off Abba and Queen during this period. Ive had the last laugh, I knew they were timeless brilliant... Take that rock critics!
