We've already got a few threads on the whole of series 4, but as this is the first episode (and we know quite a few things about it already), I thought it was time for its own thread. And the first trailer just for this episode has been broadcast:

Songs confirmed so far:

"Chasing Pavements" (Adele) - New Directions

"Call Me Maybe" (Carly Rae Jepsen) - New Directions

"Dance Again" (Jennifer Lopez) - Cassandra July (Kate Hudson's character) with NYADA

"It's Time" (Imagine Dragons) - Blaine

Also, we'll be seeing

Wade join New Directions (I'm not sure if that's this episode or not though) and Sue's baby for the first time!

'Dance Again' sounds TERRIBLE from that (albeit very small) clip in that trailer. Very much looking forward to Blaine's cover of 'It's Time' as it's his version in the other teaser that got me into the original. Hope their 'Call Me Maybe' is as fun as I'm hoping for it to be.

Looking forward to seeing how they keep the other originals in this series. They have an idea for Rachel and Kurt, but how is it going to work for the others who have "graduated"?

I lol'd when I read they were doing 'Dance Again' just because of how much of a SMASH it was. Not that they can't cover flops. Really liking the tracklist overall so far.

I'm actually happy about

Wade joining New Directions as I ended up liking the character. Hopefully we get some more drag performances, they were fun!

Nice song list, I do agree Dance Again sounds bad but It's Time sounds great and Call Me Maybe and Chasing Pavements should be great!

Why is no one talking about the confirmed Britney tribute in here?

IT'S TIME FOR NEW FACES AND NEW PLACES ON AN ALL-NEW "GLEE" THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 ON FOX

Kate Hudson ("Nine") Guest-Stars

In the season premiere episode, the members of New Directions compete amongst themselves to become the next star of the glee club. During open auditions, a fresh crop of students is introduced, including Marley (Melissa Benoist) and Jake Puckerman (Jacob Artist), Puck's half-brother. Meanwhile, Rachel (Lea Michele) has a rocky start at NYADA and struggles to please her demanding dance teacher, Cassandra July (guest star Kate Hudson). She also meets Brody (Dean Geyer), a handsome upperclassman in the Season Four premiere episode, "The New Rachel," airing on a new night and time Thursday, Sept. 13 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) following THE X FACTOR on FOX. (GLE-401) (TV-14)

Another confirmed song - Jake will be singing 'Never Say Never', not by Justin Bieber but by The Fray.

This episode will also see the introduction of Rachel's possible new partner and all around Aussie piece of hunk Brody.

All I can say is Rachel 'Go get THAT'!.

'It's Time', 'Call Me Maybe' and 'Americano'/'Dance Again' have premiered (as well as two Britney numbers!)

'It's Time':

Lovely. Not as good as the Imagine Dragons original, but it's a good version! Hopefully it gives the original a boost it deserves.

---

'Call Me Maybe':

Oh dear. Not as good as it could/should have been. I reckon it'll grow on me, but that's just because of how good the original is. So I dunno.

---

'Americano'/'Dance Again':

Ugh. THIS is why 'Dance Again' sounded terrible in the preview. They've gone and mixed it with the terrible Lady GaGa song. :puke:

They're all a bit underwhelming, the production in all tracks sounds a little off to me. :( The chorus of 'Call Me Maybe' sounds like an iTunes fake version. I don't mind the mash-up of 'Dance Again' & 'Americano' as such but they could've picked a better GaGa song, not one of the worst from the album. Was never a fan of 'Dance Again' either.
I really love the Americano bits of Cassandra's mash-up but the Dance Again bits are pretty bad, I'm conflicted

The rest of the songs have been released on iTunes, 'Chasing Pavements' is really good, Marley sounds great. Jake is also pretty good on his cover of The Fray so suddenly I'm feeling a lot better about the new people.

A decent opening episode! There was perhaps a bit too much Rachel and not enough of the older members of New Directions, but I liked Marley and her introduction. "Call Me Maybe" was probably my least favourite performance (mainly because of my love for the original) - "New York State of Mind" was my highlight, I love it anyway when Glee do duets with characters in multiple scenes.

Best season opener since the series premiere. Loved every bit of it and didn't skip any of the songs (which I usually do).

One thing I don't like, though, is Sue's baby story.

It was great, the split narrative worked well. There were enough of the older members so I wasn't missing people like Mercedes/Santana/Quinn (and certainly not Finn as I almost forgot him altogether) and the introductions for both Marley & Jake were good. 'Chasing Pavements' was my favourite performance but none were bad, it was sweet to see Rachel & Kurt reuniting. Loved the New York setting.
It was great - I was worried about the whole split setting thing but it worked! There was a bit too much Rachel I agree but seeing as the episode was called 'The New Rachel' I did expect a bit of a Rachel focus, maybe in later episodes she'll appear less and New Directions will come to the forefront. I like how they got pushed back down again, also loving Kitty, I'm getting real early Quinn flashbacks from her.
