August 26, 201212 yr Hi, John! Nice to see a Chart from that particlular year, when i started to follow UK Singles Charts on a regular basis. I missed 4 weeks though (from beginning of August till beginning of September) when i've been away at our family friends house. I got back in the end of August but still missed some Charts (perhaps BBC World Service has changed a bit their regular show time or something). It was the time i have started to listen to American Top 10 on Voice Of America. I liked some entries there. First of all, Rhythm Is Gonna Get You by Miami Sound Machine, which had charted in the UK only a year later. In fact, your Top 10 quite matches to my preferences those days. I loved Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield collaborations. I believe that was my favourite track on Actually LP. I also liked Wax, T'Pau, Michael Jackson and Bananarama singles. Strange to see Climie Fisher here as Love Changes Everything charted 5 months later in the UK.

Climie Fisher I liked first time round when it wasnt a hit, they remixed it just a bit in 1988 and got a hit out of it... If at first you don't succeed, remix:)
August 26, 201212 yr Author Rick Astley :D I'm jealous of your tour through the US though. Yes, Family Guy has condemned Rick Astley to eternal infamy:) The mystery wasn't how he got a hit (It's a good song) it's how me managed to get a load of follow-up hits, none of them memorable and the self-written ones...errr...! Tour the USA if you get the chance, go with friends and it's even better:)
August 26, 201212 yr A few excellent songs in your chart popchartfreak! My favourite song at the time was 'The Motive' by Then Jerico. I also loved 'Crazy' by Icehouse though didn't buy it until it finally reached the UK top 40 the following year when it was re-released. I've not heard the Candyfloss Remix of 'Sugar Sugar' and I'm not sure if I want to either!

They were a good Aussie band. The candyfloss remix was there more for childhood nostalgia on my part - it's not exactly an improvement on the original. but made it sound a bit 80's in its 12inch form. The Archies were a childhood TV cartoon fave...:)

October 19, 201212 yr Thanks for the memories, John! :D I loved "You Win Again" at the time of its release (i even went to buy E.S.P album some weeks later), but "Little Lies" and "Crocketts's Theme" were my favourite singles then. Even though i've never seen "Miami Vice". Yes, "Pump Up The Volume" was a significant track! This one and "Beat Dis" by "Bomb the Bass" were the stuff the House music were built on. Thanks Andrey, yes Little Lies and You Win Again were both my Number Ones too and hung around my chart for a year or so. Don't worry about not seeing Miami Vice, the only good thing about it was Jan hammer's music, it was an awful TV show! I forced myself to watch the Sheena Easton episodes, but that was the last time....:) thanks again! cheers john

You Win Again, Rent, What Have I Done To Deserve This, I Heard A Rumour and above all - Pump Up The Volume, a truly groundbreaking record which still sounds remarkably fresh 25 years on! There was a remix of Sugar Sugar in '87? :o Also really like Beethoven, a very underrated Eurythmics track Thanks AH, I agree, it was a great period for music, lots of classics, love all the ones you mention, and also the even more under-rated Eurythmics track Shame - a number one in my chart in 1988! Yes, the Sugar Sugar remix is still available, I bought the 12inch version - it's special to me cos the first EP I bought as a kiddie was the Archies EP (in Singapore) lead track Sugar Sugar, and the first LP I ever bought with my own money was...The Archies. There wasnt much pop music on Singapore TV: Archies Show, Partridge Family Show, Andy Williams Show, Dean Martin Show, and that was it! Pocket money didnt go far so saving up for them was a big event!:)

(71) THE LOOK OF LOVE - Madonna Dropping out songs from Barry White, Donny Osmond, ABC, Whitesnake, Maxi Priest, Voice of the Beehive, Bananarama, MARRS, Sly & Family Stone & Housemartins, in what is a very volatile chart sparked as always by the pre-xmas rush of singles releases. Oldies from The Beatles getting the number one deserved but never had (because it missed the start of my charts by 9 months) and Nat King Cole. The ultimate Christmas favourite debuts at a modest 33 - and eventually went on to hit number one during one of it’s many many chart re-entries. Quite a few of these were inspired by the holiday in California in September (listening to USA radio), and a lot were just never UK hits anyway, so no room for UK big hits at the time from Communards, Whitney, Astley & others.
