September 1, 201212 yr Author Joy Of Svex review, I think this'll be a good place to put it - this thing acts like my blog anyway:Ā Yeah, it took a while, I wrote the first 20 reviews around the beginning of August and then never finished it off. SORRY. ANYWAY, here it is:Ā Iāll asterisk the tracks I already knew:Ā Track 1 - Lena Philipsson - Live Tomorrow* 9.5/10 Excellent track to open it up with, I gave you 10 points in BJSC for this so itās probably fair to assume I find this pretty wonderful. I do. The production flowing through it is absolutely ace. One of Swedenās triumphs this year, although not quite the greatest non-Loreen one, thatās coming in a sec. Itās one of the best tracks Iāve heard Lena Ph on though.Ā Track 2 - Lisa Miskovsky - Why Start A Fire* 10/10 Yeah, after much consideration, and shameful lack of looning over it during Melodifestivalen season, I think this may be the best Loreen-free Swedish track this year. Poor underrated Lisa, this is one stomper of a track, like an uptempo Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart, and it works, it works SO MUCH. Iāve really got emotionally invested in this track ever since April, and while Lisa is one of the better Swedish singers I know, this is the best track Iāve heard her on. All the roads we are travelling... *.*Ā Track 3 - Vendela - Punk Rock Song* - 7/10 Another Kopecka song that I checked out a long while ago. Itās fairly euphoric as a ārock songā but in all honesty, I find it one of Kopeckaās weaker hits from the contest. I know nothing about Vendela or this song beyond the confines of it coming second in BJSC, so all I can say is Iām glad Riverside beat it. Itās still a good track in its own right but itās by far the weakest in that top 3.Ā Track 4 - Salem El Fakir - Keep On Walking - 9/10 My first actual discovery from this compilation, and itās a good one. I obviously know Salemās voice off Silhouettes, and Iād been meaning to check out this on the back of that, but I hadnāt got round to it. This is some most excellent pop, whichever year it was in in Melodifestivalen (I think it was 2009 or 2010), I certainly wouldnāt have minded it winning. Salemās vocals are so unique, I think they could easily be on more hits like Silhouettes. Yeah, a lovely track.Ā Track 5 - The Sound Of Arrows - Into The Clouds* - 8.5/10 Ah, I know Iām going to disappoint you with this, but Into The Clouds is the second weakest Sound Of Arrows song that Iāve heard, behind Wonders. That still means itās pretty amazing though, itās just M.A.G.I.C, Nova and Conquest are kind of in a league of their own. Thereās just a bit too much going on in this track for me to love it THAT much. But itās still a decent example of Swedish synthpop.Ā Track 6 - Tove Styrke - White Light Moment* - 9/10 Scandipop classic of the last few years, there isnāt a whole lot more to add, I love the quality to Toveās voice on here, and itās far better than on Call My Name. I do find her a little overrated but this track is largely excellent anyway, so I can leave most of it.Ā Track 7 - Margaret Berger - Will You Remember Me Tomorrow? - 8/10 I think I had heard this once before but promptly forgot it, so this is more of a reintroducing. Itās not the greatest Scandi song ever but itās better than I remember. The title just conjures up the image of something a bit grander than a simple pop song and it lacks the extra special element needed to elevate it to a classic but itās enjoyable nonetheless.Ā Track 8 - Nanne Gronvall - Hall Om Mig - 9/10 Well, isnāt this a great discovery? Itās taken a couple of listens to love it, like you suggested in the CD swap thread, but when thatās past, the vocals, which sound like Mira Craig on a sunny day, are quite infectious and the rhythm, excellent. Rather lovely.Ā Track 9 - Lena Philipsson - Lena Anthem - 7.5/10 I found the many (only 3?!! I swear it felt like more) Lena Ph tracks on this CD to be a little overkill, so while good, this is quite average for the greatness of this CD. Iām not sure whatās going on but itās mildly enjoyable. Otherwise, this is quite buried in production, but it does get quite a bit better near the end.Ā Track 10 - Charlotte Perelli - Hero* 9.5/10 Yeah, amazing amazing, whydiditdososhit, 18thnotgoodenough, itās an excellent Swedish pop song and while it doesnāt quite reach the heights that certain people (Johnkm) bestow upon it, I have no qualms with saying this was easily the best song in ESC 2008 and the end is simply quite heartbreaking when itās finishing is taken into account. Excellent.Ā Track 11 - Jenny Silver - Something In Your Eyes - 10/10 Probably WITHOUT QUESTION my fave discovery from this disc overall. I knew this track existed but I hadnāt listened to it, and itās everything promised and more. This was in Melodifestivalen? Why did it not win?!! *checks* My god, both this AND My Heart Is Refusing Me got knocked out in Andra Chansen, in the first round as well. CRIMINAL. Thank god I wasnāt watching, I donāt think I would have been able to take it. Big thanks for this though, this is just superb.Ā Track 12 - Shirley Clamp - Min Karlek - 8/10 I believe this is actually my introduction to Shirley Clamp, and as such from what Iāve heard, Iām expecting something rather good. This does live up to expectations as such, but itās kind of standard for this incredible disc, I donāt think that itās because of the different language, itās just nothing that special. Still a respectable 8/10.Ā Track 13 - Eric Saade - Itās Gonna Rain* - 9.5/10 Despite me not exactly being a fan of the Saade, I can comfortably say that this is my favourite track of his, itās stood the test of time far better than Popular, and itās pretty incredible in its own right. On most days, my favourite of the 3 Kopecek winners; the other two arenāt far behind though. The chorus is... well, one of the best Swedish pop male choruses I know.Ā Track 14 - Mans Zelmerlow - Cara Mia - 8/10 My comment above may have hinted that Iāve never been a huge fan of the Swedish male singers as a whole, but on first listen, this doesnāt really extend to Mans, itās a rather nice, if a little uninspiring, pop song. This is the first Iāve heard from him; he sounds a little more interesting than the likes of Saucedo.Ā Track 15 - Carola - Evighet - 8/10 IIRC from Atonementās review, this is the Swedish version of Invincible. Thatās one Swedish Eurovision entry Iām not THAT keen on, despite it being competent, itās got nothing on āCaptured By A Stormwindā (or however itās spelt in Swedish), which is an excellent winning entry. So I wasnāt expecting the Swedish version to change my view on it much. Itās better than I remember though, maybe the Swedish version is an improvement.Ā Track 16 - Sanna Nielsen - Vagar Du, Vagar Jag - 7/10 Another Swedish-language song. Well, thatās stating the obvious, but thereās nothing THAT special about this one. It doesnāt feel as grand as it could have been. Still, a weak song for this disc is still really good so, thatās not bad.Ā Track 17 - Timoteij - Kom* - 9.5/10 Kom is one of the greatest tracks to grace Melodifestivalen and after I fell in love with Stormande Hav this year, it didnāt disappoint when I did listen to it. Absolutely wonderful, from the rhythm to the instruments Timoteij use. Kind of the perfect Swedish girl group song. Itās also the last one I knew beforehand.Ā Track 18 - Sarah Dawn Finer - Moving On - 7/10 Ah, the first Iāve heard from Ms Finer, musically that is. Thereās not much that would make me fall in love with this, thereās a little too much emotion for a little too little substance, but itās impossible to make a bad song appear here, so Iām fine with that.Ā Track 19 - Anna Sahlene & Maria Haukaus Storeng - Killing Me Tenderly - 9/10 Well, this shows promise, the singers of two rather excellent Eurovision entries coming together, so Iām expecting a bit going into this, and it doesnāt disappoint. A very engaging song, slightly above Runaway, not as great as Hold On Be Strong, but a great discovery. The title annoys me a little though, I keep thinking it should be Softly - but interesting titles are normally a plus point for me anyway so itās nothing serious.Ā Track 20 - Sanna Nielsen - Iām In Love - 9/10 Well, this is certainly an improvement on the last Sanna track, and has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact sheās now singing in English. The hymnal chorus is just excellent, and while it never reaches a full climax, itās alright because singing along to the chorus is.. er.. *.*Ā Track 21 - Jag vill om du vahgr - Pernilla Wahlgren - 8/10 A rather nice Swedish language track, which is a little bit too much like filler in the context of this disc, but outside it is a great song in its own right. Itās a TINY bit forgettable after having listened, but itās an enjoyable ride while listening.Ā Track 22 - Jag Ljuger sa bra - Linda Bengtzing 8/10 Another Swedish language track, and I feel this should be greater than it should be. It was all the foreign-language stompers to close this off, wasnāt it? Anyway, after a couple more listens to this I think I will like it more, thereās a comfortable rhythm there, definitely room to grow.Ā Track 23 - Show Me Heaven - Lili Och Susie - 9.5/10 Ah, I was looking forward to this after your comments on this. Schlager at its finest, I keep thinking ABBA throughout for fairly obvious reasons, maybe itās what ABBA would sound like if they were a little more recent, and anything ABBA-esque is fine by me. One of my favourite discoveries on here.Ā Track 24 - Det gor ont - Lena Phillipsson - 6/10 Another Lena Ph to finish off. Hmm. Decent opening. Iām afraid this isnāt doing it so much for me, like Lena Anthem it gets a little better near the end with an attempt at a glorious ending but itās quite a weak closer to the disc IN COMPARISON. On its own it is fine. Ā Conclusion: As you may have picked up from the scattering of high scores and the hinting at it whenever a song went below 8/10, I, predictably, loved this to pieces. The foreign-language tracks are either not as good or need growing room on the whole - yes, Iām racist - but theyāre still enjoyable, and the English language tracks I didnāt know were all kinds of amazing discoveries. My average score for this was 8.47, and as thatās pretty excellent for a standard album, well done. I tried to rate objectively and point out flaws to get longer reviews, but it has been an excellent month of reviewing, letās just ignore I did nothing with the review for about the entirety OF the month. Iām keeping them all.Ā

This, Silhouette and I'm Coming After You have become my highlights of the album. Embers is nice as well. I used to do that as well with recommendations, nae worrie. But this is fantastic so if you miss out... 6. It continually grows on me, and ever since Ms Mr were first entered into UP, I have become quite a fan of them. Not sure if this is quite their best but the 'Welcome to the inner workings of my mind' line just gets me every time. 7. Well, I'm not. :D 11. I love novelty K-Pop. Actually, I just like quirky K-Pop. If it was BEG looking at a hit, I would be delighted. I'll TAKE PSY though. 12. It's not COMPLETELY indie. :angry: 38.
