KARMA POLICE Radiohead So, Diana had just died tragically, the nation was mourning, and this is what I was liking at the time... a few golden oldies, lots of rock, lots of dance, lots of pop divas, lots of alternative rock, opera, reggae, ballads, pop, country, hiphop, soul...typical chart in fact:)
September 1, 201212 yr Great Chart, John! My personal No.1 for that year (and most probably for the whole decade) was KARMA POLICE by Radiohead. Next comes Beetlebum by Blur. 1997 was quite a good year for the music!

Thanks Andrey, yes the mid 90's were pretty good generally, though it tailed off a bit during the manufactured pop era of 1998-2000. Still good stuff about, just not quite as much of it...

Still good stuff about, just not quite as much of it... Yes, boy bands ruined the end of decade. It's been even worse than SAW chart invasion of the late 80's. Luckily still there were Moby, Blur, Supergrass, Suede, Stereophonics, Beautiful South, Super Furry Animals, Semisonic, Travis, New Radicals, Moloko, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Primal Scream, Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. Madness, Culture Club, Blondie and David Bowie did their great combacks.
September 4, 201212 yr I like the songs from Verve Texas and Sundays. The Seahorses had to be one of the stand out bands of 1997 for me. Pity they only recorded one album.

Pity they only recorded one album. thanks Fiesta:) Texas were probably my fave band during 97-99, Verve not far behind. Seahorses I recall liking too:) I also loved Mark n Lard I think they did an affectionate parody:)
