To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart, every weekend our good friends at MTV will be counting down some very special Top 60s. Today at midday, they will be revealing the Top 60 biggest-selling debut singles of the 21st Century.

Pop Idol winner Will Young leads the charge with his 2002 double A-side single Anything Is Possible / Evergreen being crowned the biggest-selling debut single of the 21st Century. In its first week on sale, it sold a staggering 1.1 million copies, and has shifted nearly 1.8 million copies to date.

Will’s fellow Pop Idol finalist Gareth Gates is at Number 2 with his version of Unchained Melody, which was made famous by The Righteous Brothers in 1965, and later Robson & Jerome in 1995. Gareth’s version, which was also released in 2002, sold 850,000 in its first week on sale and has sold over 1.3 million copies to date.

2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke is at Number 3 with her cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. Gotye FT Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know is at Number 4, and Bruno Mars completes the Top 5 with Just the Way You Are (Amazing) at Number 5.

Nice to see Adele's been forgotten already.

EDIT: Oh, it's début singles only! Must read harder... But yes, a bad list! And "Call Me Maybe" should be #10 above Matt Cardle.

6 of the 10 all from Pop Idol/Popstars/XFactor

Why is Bob the Builder on this list, couldnt they just erase that from the archives

Awful list - apart from Gotye.

Hmmm, when the only British act that isn't from a reality TV show is an animated building constructor then you know its not really looking good...Still, the times of these selling really well are all but gone, so hopefully we'll have more representations like Gotye, Bruno Mars & Gnarls Barkley soon

But that would be getting rid of the third best song on the list! (Behind Gotye and Gnarls of course).
