I agree with your opinion, it was a huge year for Blondie, but singles line in 1978 was even better.

Singles from 1978:

- (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear  (it's my second favourite after "Sunday Girl")

- Denis

- Picture This

- Hanging On The Telephone

John, "Atomic" is 1980 for me. Please, a little more charts. :)

I loved all Blondie singles, of course 78 & 80 too:) I will post some ones I have handy (Top 100's) on computer - the older typed ones (typewriters!) might take a while to copy out, but 1980 is work in progress - I'm up to late september so far and its a fabulous year!

cheers!

Thanks for that, I think most of the ones you like are regarded highly by the critics (though ELO more loved by the public than critics). Quality choices:) Thanks...

cheers

I quite agree, would love some of the younger voters to get involved as it would be great to get a broad range of taste. But, although I'm sure a few would get involved, most would dismiss it without giving it a chance. Personally I love to get involved in any of the votes even when I'm not that familiar with all the tracks as gives me an opportunity to discover something new that perhaps I'd overlooked previously.

It might broaden everybody's music horizons, go for it! I got my niece into Pet Shop Boys when she was around 21 by giving her a hits cd - she loves 'em now, so you never know what's going to click with someone. My young nephew hates Gaga, loves Nickelback. Totally the wrong way round in my opinion, so I made my entire family listen to The Fame Monster at a barbecue as punishment. They all hated it.

No accounting for taste!

cheers:)

From all Blondie's singles I dislike only "Rapture" and "War Child"

Wait your top songs list for 1980, maybe even you can find a place for Sue Wilkinson - You've Got To Be A Hustler If You Want To Get On in your list.

Interesting to hear that version of 'Girls Talk', a quick look on wiki says it was really succesful. Never heard it before despite knowing the song through Elvis Costello and Linda Ronstadt.

Thanks:) yes, it was a big hit, Dave Edmunds was sort of a production double-act with Nick Lowe at the time and they some great singles. Much as I like Costello, I think the Dave Edmunds version is wonderful. Costello was usually less than complimentary with Ronstadt covers but I think he liked Edmunds...

I've now downloaded two of his albums ('Get It' and 'Repeat When Necessary') so I hope to discover some other gems. Hoping that it doesn't sound TOO stuck in time though.

I am well aware of Costello's opinion on Linda's covers of his songs, unfortunately :( (although to be fair, her version of 'Alison' is not very good - apart from the lovely sax in there).

hope they're goodies, if you get the chance check out his UK hits Baby I Love You, Born To Be With You, I Hear You Knocking, I Knew The Bride & as guitarist in Love Sculpture the frantic Sabre Dance, and Nick Lowe's I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass & Cruel To Be Kind. Ronstadt sang lead on the Stone Ponies version of Mike Nesmith's Different Drum, which is awesome, her version is the definitive!

John, do you have low-known singles by Brotherhood Of Man from 1979 in your charts ? Such songs as "Goodbye Goodbye", "Papa Louis" and especially cute "Taxi" ?

Hi Alex I don't think I ever heard them. By 1979 radio had moved on and the brotherhood of man didn't get played...!

cheers john

Brotherhood Of Man - Taxi

Very ABBA, in my top 5 favourite Brotherhood Of Man songs (with such classics as Angelo, My Sweet Rosalie, Figaro, Save Your Kisses For Me) and I don't understand why a song wasn't a hit.

"Papa Loius" is very novelty/cheesy song (even for my taste :) )

"Goodbye Goodbye" :

Thanks for the links Alex, I like the last one Goodbye Goodbye, but it never made my chart so I guess it was on an edition of Top Of The Pops I missed while on holiday in Tunisia as I don't remember it at all!

I did chart one of their before they came back in 1976 though, called Kiss Me Kiss You Baby from 1975ish, it was a decent pop song.. B-)

"Goodbye, Goodbye" was released as single in January.

"Kiss Me Kiss You Baby"

They had very huge discography with many another unsuccessful singles (from "When Love Catches Up On You" in January 1974 to "When The Kissing Stops" in June 1983)., especially for pure pop group, even bigger, than K3 (Girl group from Belgium) have. :)
