I read the news over on Digital Spy so have just re posted snippets from what they have up. To be honest, i am not sure if i think the project is something i approve of, it was a fantastic album and should remain that way. Also Gary seems to be the only big name involved which i find strange. I wonder will any of these recordings be eligable to chart on the singles chart?

Gary Barlow has signed up to appear on the upcoming War of the Worlds album remake.

The Take That star will sing two tracks on the new version of Jeff Wayne's 1978 classic LP.

Barlow will sing as 'The Sung Thoughts of The Journalist' on two of the album's most famous tracks - 'Forever Autumn' and 'The Eve of the War' - originally performed by Moody Blues frontman Justin Hayward.

Barlow said: "I've been a huge fan of the War of the Worlds score since I was a kid, so to be asked to work with the legend that is Jeff Wayne was a real privilege."

I had this album when it first came out. I have to say I can't really see the point of doing it again with new artists. As it is Gary has bagged two of the only decent tunes on the album. As far as I can remember the only songs I like are Forever Autumn, The Eve of the War and Thunderchild ... the rest of it (apart from Richard Burton's fabulous narration) is highly overrated.

I still can't see anyone bettering Justin Hayward's almost hesitant vocal on Forever Autumn though.

I cant see anyone bettering the versions either and i kind of think the whole thing is a bit pointless. Interesting to see how it will be recieved and what the new versions will sound like.
Are Take That not releasing a new studio album this year? I havent heard anything. Then again, Robbie has got his new album out.

I would be happier to hear that Take That have actually started work on a new album, they dont seem to have any plans to get a new album under way.

Well Gary's hinted at a solo tour so that's something to keep the Take That fans happy until a Take That tour/album comes along.

Not sure what to think of the remake to be honest, but I'll keep an open mind until I hear it. I love Liam Neeson's voice anyways, and with Gary being given those two massive songs it will certainly be interesting to hear the final result.

Gary has said that he started work on material for the next TT album while he was in Sydney during the Sing process. It says it here:

So judging by that there will be a new album for Christmas next year which may or may not include a cameo of Robbie (maybe singing a hidden track or something like that) and a tour next year.

And as Kath says, Gary will be doing some concerts before the end of the year around the country. I wouldn't be surprised if he appeared at the Robbie concerts (the worst kept secret since Progress Live) in the summer doing some sort of TT medley on the piano etc

So if things stay to plan this time next year i should be getting all excited for a new Take That album and a new single would roughly be on the way this time next year.

Forever Autumn got its first play on Radio 2, check it out here:

Gary's vocal is actually very very good. It's been such a long time since ive heard it, I almost forgot the emotion running through that song.

P.s - Gary will be performing Dead London as well. >> http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/27164039/0...ingDetails.html

The vocal is fine, but im not fully bought into this just yet.

Its a pleasant enough vocal but I still can't see the point in it. As pleasant as it is - Gary's vocal (on this song) is weak in comparison to Justin Hayward's original.

I find the whole exercise of redoing the album a bit silly!

Jay - this is just an album exercise isn't it - there are no plans to release singles are there?

Well I love the original but I wouldn't call Gary's version weak, they are just both two very good versions.

Kath - To be honest im not overly keen on it being repackaged, but then again it would be nice for other generations or people who missed out the first time to hear it again rather than listening to a 1978 version.

And yeah it says it on that clip that Forever Autumn will be released as a single the week before the album. Not really sure why cos it wont appeal to the majority of people who buy singles.. but if Gary performs it on the X Factor maybe the single and album performance could surprise us

If Gary did an x factor performance it would give it a huge boost and get him another solo chart entry but i dont see the x factor performance happening. While i like to hear of Gary's solo ventures this current one doesnt really appeal to me, nice been the best word i can use for it, overall i think its all a bit pointless and also it involves too many no name artists.

Well they want to get Gary and the other judges (minus Louis ) to perform during the live shows anyways so this could be the logical way i suppose. The chances that each mentor will have a finalist again is probably slim, in terms of 3 from each of the categories again minus Louis where they could sing with their mentor. I dont think they will do that this year anyways, ratings wise they will probably end up bringing in guest singers like they've done previously.

I dont really class this as a solo venture to be honest. It's not a Gary led project or Gary based material, its just him covering an old song to promote Jeff Wayne's revamp. Even with an XF performance though I cant see it getting any higher than a top 20 charting, as its not really what is in the charts atm and the people who are interested will just end up buying the album.

I would agree with all you said only exception is Louis Walsh has promised us a performance this year and will duet with one of his acts.!!!!!!!
haha!! Could you imagine?!! They could have him pretending to play piano or something but id prefer if he rapped or break danced!
