He sounds old before his years!

 

Vaguely 60s sounding/early Oasis imo.

I've never heard him before, how is his album #1?

It's a simple concept. More people are buying his album than any other this week.

I like him far more than I imagined I would. I didn't like Lighting Bolt at all when it was out but I find it ok now and there are much better on the album.

Just downloaded this as he lives about 20 minutes away. He sounds like he's doing the sort of thing Arctic Monkeys tried with the 3rd album, but failed to get. Well that's how I see it. 'Lightning Bolt' was decent enough, but 'Two Fingers' is so much better.

I'm a big fan of Lightning Bolt but agree that Two Fingers is very much better.

I was basically asking what kind of promo he's had to get to #1 because I've never heard him.

Alot of word of mouth/social media excitement about him, big artists talking him up, a wonderful first performance on Jools Holland and radio 1 support for the first 3 releases - Lightening Bolt was in the In New Music list, Taste it went into the blist and the new single went into the alist this week when radio 1 saw his album was no1!

The record company have really got the marketing and build up to this album spot on - Buzz singles, Key live performances and radio shows, YouTube hype/exposure and they have got the music out there to speak for itself and they have been rewarded with a #1 album. They managed to directly appeal straight to the market that would appreciate Jake's music.

Never heard of him.

 

A male version of Lana, eh..? In terms of PR and exposure as well..

Not sure what that means but it's nothing like Humbug. Humbug was a clear change of style and direction, and this is a debut album full of acoustic country rock songs.

 

Anyway, the album is good in my opinion. Lots of filler on there (14 tracks is way too long for a debut for me, unless you've REALLY got the goods), but there are some real standout tracks.

10th Anniversary edition will be released on October 14th. Lots of bonus tracks and live performances.
