Hi Alex, I'm more interested in how you view music from before you were born, myself, and it is more Retro than 2000's though I would imagine younger music fans, and there are way more, might be more keen on the 2000's. B-)

John, I prefer to continue with 60s decade, because I didn't heard many songs from 60s and like to be a music gold digger. On another hand we live in 2014 year, so 2000-2004 can count as retro. After 2004 year I also can continue with 2005-2013 period here : http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/End-of-Year...harts-f174.html

In summary, there are a good news for all followers of my retrospective : If I will have enough free time both periods (60s and post 2000) would be finished. Even a little view on 50s decade is very possible.

07.02.1998 : Aqua - Doctor Jones (3 weeks # 1)

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/maanbloempje/album%20-%20A/Aqua_-_Doctor_Jones_-_Front.jpg

"Doctor Jones" is a song by Danish dance-pop group Aqua. Released as the band's fifth single overall, it was the follow-up to their most successful song "Barbie Girl" in many regions. "Doctor Jones" was a similarly pop-oriented hit which sold well across the globe and ended the assumptions that Aqua would be a one-hit wonder; although they would remain so in America as "Barbie Girl" was their only hit there until "Lollipop (Candyman)" was released and hit the top 40 on the Hot 100.

"Doctor Jones" was released around the world in a number of months, with the first release being in October 1997. Most of the releases would be in November 1997, with it hitting the charts in Japan, Scandinavia and mainland Europe in that month. December 1997 saw the Australian release achieve a successful chart placing at No. 1 for seven consecutive weeks, before the song made its impact in the UK in February of the following year. There, it became the group's second number one single, topping the chart for three weeks.

21.02.1998 : Saint Etienne - Sylvie (1 week # 1)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v81/lapeste/SaintEtienne4.jpg

"Good Humor" was the fourth studio album by English dance band Saint Etienne, released in 1998. The American spelling "humor" is used in the title as the band were, according to Sarah Cracknell, "fed up with the 'quintessentially English' tag, so there was a bit of a backlash against that."

The album was a departure for the group, who had been associated with the indie dance genre. "Tiger Bay" their previous album, had added many acoustic and orchestral elements but still belonged to the synthpop and dance genres, while "Good Humor" is more acoustic, having more in common musically with their 1993 hit single "You're in a Bad Way".

The first single was "Sylvie", which reached number twelve on the UK Singles Chart. The band wanted "Lose That Girl" to be the second single from the album, but their record lavel decided on "The Bad Photographer", which reached number twenty-seven. "Lose That Girl" was scheduled for release by Creation in late 1998 but was scrapped at close to the last minute.

"Sylvie" became the fourth Saint Etienne's # 1 single (after "You're In A Bad Way", "Who Do You Think You Are" and "I Was Born On Christmas Day") in my weekly charts.

Although it never topped the chart, the song is recognized as Twain's most successful crossover single, and is one of her most successful singles at country radio.

02.05.1998 : Steps - Last Thing On My Mind (5 weeks # 1)

http://991.com/newGallery/Steps-Last-Thing-On-My-176523.jpg

"Last Thing on My Mind" is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama. The song is featured on their album "Please Yourself" and was released as the album's second single in the UK in 1992. It was produced by Mike Stock and Pete Waterman, two-thirds of the Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) trio. The single met with little success, peaking at number seventy-one in the UK singles chart. However, the song later became a hit when a cover by the band Steps was released as a single in 1998.

Produced by Pete Waterman and released as the second single from their album "Step One", their version fared much better, hitting number six in UK, number five in Australia and number one in Belgium.

The two main verses are performed by Faye and Claire, respectively, whilst Lisa performs the bridge, after the instrumental. The chorus is performed by the entire group, and the song features no solo male voice. The music video, which was filmed in Cuba, features Lee picking up all the band members in his convertible. When they sing the chorus, each member is singing a scene is similar to ABBA's "Mamma Mia".

27.06.1998 : Shania Twain - When (4 weeks # 1)

http://blog.gactv.com/files/2009/09/shaniatwain7_h.jpg

"When" is a song by Canadian singer Shania Twain. It was the second UK release from her 1997 album "Come on Over". The song was written by Mutt Lange and Shania Twain. The song was originally released in the summer of 1998. It was the only one of the twelve singles from "Come on Over" not released in United States.

The music video for "When" was shot in New York City, and directed by Markus Blunder. It was released in the UK in August 1998, and played once in United States on CMT's Video Bio for Twain. The video starts with Twain apparently dying and becoming an angel, and then she goes around New York City, pursuing her love interest. The ending of the video shows her love interest placing a note under her door, which Twain opens to reveal a butterfly drawing and collapsing on her bed, mirroring the opening scene. The last scene shows Twain's angel form re-entering her body, symbolising that she was only daydreaming the whole time. Her stunt double was actress Alissa Dean. Although the video was released only to Europe, two different versions were made, one with the 'Original Album Version', which is more "country", and one with the international version, which is more pop. Both versions of the video have rarely been screened since the single release. "When" is the only video from Twain's first three albums to not be included on the DVD "The Platinum Collection" although the rare 'International Version' of the video can be seen on YouTube.

In United Kingdom "When" became Twain's second top twenty single. It debuted and peaked on June 13, 1998 at number 18. It remained on the chart for four weeks.

01.08.1998 : Aqua - My Oh My (5 weeks # 1)

http://i075.radikal.ru/0911/a9/a960ebac9895.jpg

My favourite Aqua's song. "My Oh My" was released as the third single from "Aquarium" album overall. "My Oh My" was initially released in February 1997 before being reissued following the success of "Barbie Girl", "Doctor Jones" and "Turn Back Time" in August 1998. Like many early Aqua tracks, the song featured vocals from both Lene Nystrøm Rasted and Rene Dif. It was the fourth release from the album in UK, where it peaked at number 6, the group's lowest performing single there until "Good Morning Sunshine".

The video for the single featured the four members of the group on a pirate ship, with Lene being captured by the other members (playing pirates) before turning the tables around and taking over. They then go on to discover treasure.

This single wasn't so huge as "Barbie Girl", but it was their next # 1 in home country Denmark, # 3 in Belgium, # 4 in France and Sweden and top 20 in all another main European charts (exclude Ireland).

05.09.1998 : Steps - One For Sorrow (5 weeks # 1)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c3/One_For_Sorrow.jpg

"One for Sorrow" became the group's first single to make Top 5 on UK charts and their second # 1 in Belgium. Debuting at #2 and spending 11 weeks on the British charts, this song firmly established Steps's intention to revive the ABBA sound, striking a considerable resemblance to "The Winner Takes It All".

Unlike Steps' previous single, "Last Thing on My Mind", which featured solo vocals by all three girls, Claire performs lead vocals of all of the verses, which are harmonised with Faye, before the entire band join for the chorus.

21.11.1998 : Steps - Heartbeat (5 weeks # 1)

http://www.pop-music.com/steps/heartbeat2.jpg

"Heartbeat / Tragedy" is the fourth single released by British pop group Steps. "Heartbeat", written by Jackie James, was the first ballad released as a single by the group. The single is also known as one of their Christmas songs as it was released near Christmas.

The music video for "Heartbeat" is set in snowy surroundings. It begins with Steps riding a sleigh while an evil Ice Queen has her sights set on H; she is watching an image of on the tiny pond in her throne room. The group are staying in a lodge, and H goes out back to fetch some wood for the fire. The Ice Queen decides that this is the time to strike, and she sends her three dwarf guards to kidnap H. They jump H, and the Ice Queen casts a spell, knocking him out. By the time H wakes up, he is in the back of their sleigh. The rest of the group come out and find H is missing, finding only a little sword carried by one of the guards. On skis and snowmobiles, they set off the rescue H. Along the way to the Ice Queen's castle, they stop at a barn, finding absolutely nothing. Arriving at the castle, they break into the throne room where H is tied up in the middle of the frozen pond. Faye, Lee, and Claire easily take care of the guards (while H is able to free himself), and Lisa defeats the Ice Queen with a karate kick to the chin. The group then return to the lodge for a Christmas party.
