Great time period in UK Singles Chart. Many classic pop songs were on the top of my personal chart.

26.06.1999 : Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss Me (3 weeks # 1)

http://muzyka.kulichki.net/sixpence_none_the_richer/sixpence_none_the_richer1.jpg

Sixpence None the Richer is an American Christian pop band. Leigh Nash met guitarist and songwriter Matt Slocum at a church retreat in the early 1990s. The two formed Sixpence None the Richer, named for a line from the book Mere Christianity by the author C.S. Lewis, soon after and went on to record four full-length albums with the band. Their first album, released when she was just 16, was The Fatherless & the Widow. The album garnered critical acclaim and Slocum and Nash searched for new band members.

"Kiss Me" is a song recorded by Sixpence None the Richer from their 1997 self-titled album. Released as a single in 1998, it reached No. 2 on the Billboard US Hot 100. It became the main theme song for the teen film "She's All That" starring Rachael Leigh Cook. The song was a worldwide success; it reached number four in UK Singles Chart and Canada and number one on Australian singles chart, making it the group's highest-charting single across the world.

The song is also the group's best-selling single in United States, peaking at number two for one week behind TLC's "No Scrubs". Even though it only reached second place, the song did have great longevity on the chart, spending 16 weeks in the Top Ten and 35 weeks on the chart. At the end of 1999, Billboard ranked the song as the sixth best-selling single of 1999, ahead of a number of other No. 1 hits.

31.07.1999 : Britney Spears - Sometimes (1 week # 1)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H_ddRc4CLv8/Tm4QiDwDG0I/AAAAAAAAOnA/fXKupvQkga0/s1600/sometimes-britney-spears.jpg

"Sometimes" was released as Spears' second single from her debut studio album "Baby One More Time". It's a teen pop song that draws influences from bubblegum pop, and alludes to a relationship where a shy girl is reserved on expressing feelings to her lover.

Lyrically, the song is a "heartbroken ballad", where Spears declares on the introduction, "You tell me you're in love with me / That you can't take your pretty eyes away from me / It's not that I don't wanna stay / But every time you come too close I move away".

"Sometimes" attained worldwide success, peaking inside the top ten in eleven countries. In United States, the song peaked at number twenty one. The song reached number one in Belgium (Flanders), Netherlands and New Zealand, while reaching number two in Australia. In United Kingdom, the song reached number three, and is also Spears' third best-selling single in the country.

14.08.1999 : Steps - Love's Got A Hold On My Heart (2 weeks # 1)

http://991.com/newgallery/Steps-Loves-Got-A-Hold-226903.jpg

7th # 1 single for Steps.

"Love's Got a Hold on My Heart" was the lead single to be taken from the band's second album "Steptacular". The single narrowly missed out the #1 spot and was third # 2 single, losing out to Latin pop singer Ricky Martin. Spending 12 weeks on the British charts, this single is the group's only single to fall off the charts for two consecutive weeks and then re-enter. The single achieved some international success, peaking at #9 in Finland, #18 in New Zealand and #29 in Australia.

The video, shot in Cannes in the South of France, was directed by Dani Jacobs. The main plot sees the group chase a man who has stolen the film reel for the fictitious "Steps: The Movie, intercut with clips of the band performing the dance routine on a jetty (dressed in yellow outfits) ".

28.08.1999 : Geri Halliwell - Mi Chico Latino (5 weeks # 1)

http://students.cis.uab.edu/cp1jeff/Geri1.jpg

"Mi Chico Latino" (English: "My Latin Boy"), is a song by English singer Geri Halliwell and second single from her debut solo album "Schizophonic". It was released on 16 August 1999. The single identifies her maternal Spanish background, as the song has a number of Spanish lyrics. The music video was directed by Doug Nichol and filmed between 5 and 8 July 1999 in Sardinia and she wear black bikini in music video.

"Mi Chico Latino" was more successful and had more promotion than Halliwell's debut single "Look at Me". The single peaked at number one in United Kingdom becoming Halliwell's first number-one solo single in the country. Being first in a sequence of four consecutive Geri Halliwell singles reaching number one in United Kingdom, the single went on to sell almost 375,967 copies in Britain and was certified Gold.

After very long pause this thread is coming back.

1. Now I know the dates of UK release for some old singles, which wasn't in the official chart. Based on it I started to correct my retrospective # 1 list + I want get rid from some random # 1 singles, which I like, but they are not so good for # 1 position.

On this minite I did some major changes in # 1 lists :

1. Add 4 # 1 singles for Brotherhood Of Man (Honey Don't Throw Our Love Away, Kiss Me, Kiss Your Baby, Taxi, Will You Love Me Tomorrow). Now they have fifteen # 1 singles.

2. ABBA also got their fifteen's # 1 single with "Super Trouper" (instead Sheena Easton's single)

3. Add new 4 # 1 singles for Blondie : Two from them (Union City Blue, Denis) were missed. I don't know a reason. "Atomic" and "Hanging On The Telephone" got # 1 status. Now Blondie have 12 # 1 singles and Debbie Harry has 18 # 1 singles (with additional six solo # 1s)

Try to finish 1999 year so fast as I can. :)

In France, it was her first and to date, only top ten single. In the UK, "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" became Twain's second highest selling single, being certified Silver. The song debuted, at its peak, on October 2, 1999 at number three, where it remained for two weeks. It remained in the top ten for another two weeks. It remained on the entire chart for 18 weeks. 24.10.1999 : Texas - Summer Son (1 week # 1)

http://plagiata.net.ua/images/slon/1261767724_texas_summer_son.jpg

"Summer Son" is a song by Scottish band Texas and was the second single to be taken from the album "The Hush". The song was released on 16 August 1999 in UK and reached #5 on Official Singles Chart. It remains one of the band's most known releases, partly because of the controversy surrounding the accompanying sexually implicit video.

My favourite Texas' single, taken from the best their album. All three singles in the "Hush" era were # 1s in my chart.

Definitely 1999 is my favourite year in music. Many amazing songs spent only 1 week on the top and some lovely pop hits even wasn't # 1 here.

Thunderbugs - Friends Forever

Love this song, but the competition for # 1 is very strong. Somewhere in 2005 this single easily could spent a month on the top. Only # 2 for the next 5 weeks.

good to see the thread back Alex. LOVE Texas and Summer Son. :yahoo:

The number one changes are mostly good too, even have one of my minor BOM 1975 hits in there, yay!

13.11.1999 : Geri Halliwell - Lift Me Up (4 weeks # 1)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/90/Lift-me-up.jpg

Third # 1 single for my all-time # 1 favourite singer. I was on a heaven of happiness, when Geri got the second # 1 single in United Kingdom.

"Lift Me Up" is a song by singer-songwriter, Geri Halliwell. It was released on 1 November 1999 as the third single from Halliwell's debut solo album "Schizophonic". It debuted and peaked at number-one in UK Singles Chart, winning the chart battle against fellow Spice Girls member Emma Bunton's "What I Am" by 33,000 copies.

The single was released on 1 November 1999, along with previous Spice Girls group mate Emma Bunton's debut single "What I Am". When Geri discovered that her single was to be released on the same date as that of her former Spice colleague, she wanted to back out, but it was too close to the release date for her to pull out, and so, in true Geri style, she became determined for her single to reach number one over Emma's. "Lift Me Up" reached number one in the UK chart on 13 November 1999. On the first day of sales, Halliwell was ahead of Bunton by only 200 copies, but due to a furious whirlwind of promotion on Halliwell's part, "Lift Me Up" wound up selling 139,000 copies in its first week ("What I Am"'s first week sales were 106,000 copies). Its total sales are 341,768 copies in United Kingdom, the single enjoyed a fifteen-week run in UK chart.

19.12.1999 : Lolly - Big Boys Don't Cry (1 week # 1)

http://popencyclopedia.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/lollypngversion.png

Lolly (born Anna Kumble) is a British pop star, TV presenter and actress.

Anna Kumble worked as a model before going into a pop career. Lolly arrived on the British pop music scene in 1999 with the release of her first single, "Viva La Radio". She released five singles and two albums over her two-year career in music. Her real name was released one letter at a time in Smash Hits magazine. After quitting her record label Polydor, Lolly reverted to her real name and began TV presenting, working for the BBC on programmes such as Xchange.

Kumble has starred in a number of pantomimes. In December 2012, she will be appearing in "Jack and the Beanstalk" in Weymouth and in 2013/2014 she starred in "Robin Hood".

Lolly's best single (# 10 in United Kingdom). Such cute song, even not very cheesy, she was a huge favourite for Christmas # 1 race, but my favourite song of all 90s decade was released on the next week.

26.12.1999 : Steps - Say You'll Be Mine (7 weeks # 1)

http://www.pop-music.com/steps/say_youll_be_mine.jpg

"Say You'll Be Mine" is a song by Steps, released as the group's eighth single as a double-A-side, along with a cover version of Kylie Minogue's "Better the Devil You Know".

The single was released in Christmas week of 1999, against competitors such as S Club 7's "Two in a Million / You're My Number One" and the number one Westlife's "I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun". The single entered at number seven - the group's lowest since their debut "5,6,7,8" - but it rose to number four the following week. This single spent seventeen weeks in the chart, the first Steps single to do so since "Better Best Forgotten".

The music video for "Say You'll Be Mine" features the band acting out different films. H and Claire act out Romeo + Juliet, H and Faye act out Austin Powers, H and Lisa act out Titanic, Lee and Claire act out There's Something About Mary, Lee and Faye act out Batman Returns and Lee and Lisa act out Armageddon.

BEST idea for the music video and Faye is very sexy. Amazing end for the decade.

Thanks, John.

Our shared # 1s would be very rare thing in the next decade (maybe only some Britney's and "I Kissed A Girl").

12.02.2000 : Scooch - More Than I Needed To Know (1 week # 1)

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/13905349/More%20Than%20I%20Needed%20To%20Know.jpg

After # 2 position with "When My Baby" in 1999 "Steps wannabe" band Scooch got their first from three # 1 singles with "More Than I Needed To Know".

Scooch are a British bubblegum dance group, comprising performers Natalie Powers, Caroline Barnes, David Ducasse and Russ Spencer. They won a contest on BBC One's Saturday morning show Live & Kicking in 1999. They competed against a boy band to have their single released. Even though the bands were already formed, this contest was unique as it pre-dates the format of the first music talent reality show to air in United Kingdom, ITV1's program "Pop stars" in 2000.

Their debut single "When My Baby" charted within the Top 40. This prompted a tour supporting the Irish girl band B*Witched, and promoted their second and biggest single "More Than I Needed to Know". It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 5 and went on to see a global release (including Japan where it hit the top of the record chart).

UK version of their album entitled "Four Sure" (underrated sample of perfect pop :( ) which peaked just outside UK Top 40. The band were dropped by their record label and privately split.

19.02.2000 : Britney Spears - Born To Make You Happy (2 weeks # 1)

http://www.handbookbride.ru/uploads/posts/2009-07/1246542352_britni_i-was-born_380.jpg

"Born to Make You Happy" is a song recorded by American singer Britney Spears for her debut studio album "Baby One More Time" (1999). It was released on December 6, 1999, by Jive Records, as the fourth single from album. Before recording the song, Spears had to ask the writers of the song, Andreas Carlsson and Kristian Lundin, to re-write it, since it was a sexual song.

The dance-pop and teen pop song alludes to a relationship that a woman desires to correct, not quite understanding what went wrong, as she comes to realize that she was "born to make [her lover] happy".

"Born to Make You Happy" received mixed reviews from critics, who praised it for being an early classic and a proficient single, despite considering the song as entirely unremarkable like other ballads on the album. The song was commercially successful worldwide, peaking at number one in Ireland, and reaching top five positions in Belgium, Europe, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. In the United Kingdom, it also peaked at number one, and is Spears' sixth best-selling single in the country.

Third # 1 single for Britney in my chart.
