Catch (Caroline Catherine Muller) was born in Holland. She was first discovered in the mid-1980s by the German songwriter and member of the top German group Modern Talking, Dieter Bohlen. He was particularly interested in her singing talents and invited her on the same day to his studio for an audition. Shortly afterwards she signed a contract with him, which was to launch her solo career. She decided on the artist name of C.C. Catch, the two "C"'s standing for the first initials of her two first names, and "Catch" which she thought was a good idea and looked great with the initials. In the summer of 1985 on C.C. Catch's birthday, the song "I Can Lose My Heart Tonight" was released as her debut single. The single became a big hit in Europe. Dieter Bohlen and C.C. Catch worked together until 1989 during which time 12 Top 20 singles and 5 hit albums were produced. C.C. Catch wanted to have more personal input in the songs, but Bohlen would not allow this, so she decided in 1989 not to renew her contract with him and BMG, her record label, and left Germany to live in England. C.C.Catch was popular in most European countries, even in Soviet Union, but "Soul Survivor" is only one her single, which was in UK charts on very low # 96 position. September 13, 201311 yr Author 17.09.1988 : Vixen - Edge Of A Broken Heart (2 weeks # 1) http://991.com/NewGallery/Vixen-Edge-Of-A-Broken-193668.jpg mQOmDUnt8Hs Vixen is an all-female American hard rock band. Hailed as "the female Bon Jovi", the band achieved commercial success during the late 1980s and early 1990s as part of the Los Angeles rock scene. Lineup changes happened during the following years until the "classic lineup" of Janet Gardner (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jan Kuehnemund (lead guitar), Share Pedersen (bass), and Roxy Petrucci (drums) was formed. In 1988 the band was signed to EMI, and they began recording their debut album Vixen, which was released in September 1988. Singer-songwriter Richard Marx co-wrote and arranged their signature hit, "Edge of a Broken Heart" (# 26 in Hot 100, # 51 in UK) as well as performing keyboards and producing the song. Rumor was he was asked to assist the all-female band by EMI to produce their first major hit, to compete with the all-female band Bangles. Richard Marx had nothing to do with their follow-up CD, since he was becoming more of a mainline singer than songwriter. Vixen spent the next year touring the world, supporting acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions, and Bon Jovi, as well as headlining their own shows. The band returned to the studio in late 1989/early 1990 to record their follow-up album "Rev It Up", which was released in July 1990. A year of touring followed, including headlining their own shows and supporting acts such as KISS and Deep Purple. In mid-1991, the group disbanded due to musical differences. September 13, 201311 yr using that logic all rap and metal fans are also racist homophobic and the extra bonus of misogynistic to boot....because of course image has nothing to do with either genre. Not. Some people like girlie white pop stars, some people like macho black rappers, some like long-haired shouty rockers with guitars, some like all of them. Some don't. Don't like Alex's list? So why do you keep on reading it surely by now youve got the general feel for the sort of stuff he likes and know you dont agree with it...? Just to point out, Alex's postings get WAY more hits than mine and mine cover 50 years and all genres (albeit mostly just charts) so he must at least be of interest! Since when was all hip-hop and metal prejudiced? This would be a good time to post "Same Love" or "Killing In The Name" but I fear the presence of some decent music in this thread might make the universe implode. You're spectacularly missing the point that's been made about a million times that it's not his terrible taste (not many of us would be here if we couldn't stomach that from a poster) but the way he tries to justify it. I was merely making a light-hearted suggestion as to why he likes what he does. And the last point doesn't really help - people come here rather than to your thread at least partially because of Alex's notoriety.

It isn't (all prejudiced), just pointing out the nonsense of stereotyped viewpoints (rap is misogynistic and homophobic, metal for white boys only who dont have girlfriends). Me, I don't like Killing In The Name Of, it's a dull-riff-heavy, melody-lite samey shouty racket trying hard to be Metallica, and I'll happily argue the point why Smells Like Teen Spirit or Ace Of Spades are a million times better, anytime. Just cos you like it don't make it "decent music" just "decent music in your opinion" which is all Alex is doing. Don't see much of a difference other than genre and opinion... I'm not aware what personal views Alex holds, as far as I know he's never expressed them, re: racism, though he's clearly stated he doesnt like urban music, which isnt a crime and isnt that rare - Sugababes his faves but not their urban records. What I can't stand in life, having been the victim many a time, is bullying and I'm always going to stand up for the underdog (English is not Alex' native tongue, but it's mine). Insinuating someone is a racist or deaf, I'm sorry, that's not light-hearted banter, thats a personal insult. Imagine someone is stood next to you and expresses a love for girlie pop music. Now call them a racist or deaf to their face. It's no different to that, only worse because it's in print. Since I joined Buzzjack, all ive seen is Alex-baiting and it gets on my nerves. Having a love of music should be a unifying force, not a reason to slag someone off cos you dont like their taste in music. If people read Alex' stuff out of mean-spiritdness that reflects badly on the person doing it not Alex. I'll happily defend half of what Alex likes, and happily admit the other half I won't. If he says anything out of line, I'd comment on that too, but so far he hasn't, but he does a lot of research on stuff from decades past so good for him, more than a lot of people do, and it's admirably enthusiastic. Finally, how would you react if I constantly went into, say, a metal forum, and picked and nitpicked and expressed how crap it all is and how deaf anyone liking that junk must be? Happy about it? Not that I would, because as long as someone loves music that the main thing, each to their own (and for the record I dont hold that viewpoint). There are no absolutes, only opinion up for discussion. If you dont like something fine, say so, say why ("its crap" its not a reasonable argument), but dont make personal remarks about someone who holds a different viewpoint. I realise Ive been a voice in the wilderness defending Alex, but hey it needs saying. I like Alex' posts, I'm fascinated what obscure forgotten tracks he likes and digs up and what classics, and what non-classics. He puts more work into his research/posts than most, try appreciating that for a change. cheers.
September 14, 201311 yr I wasn't saying "Killing In The Name" was some paragon of genius, just that it wasn't prejudiced as you seemed to be insinuating that all metal was. Hence suggesting "Same Love" as well. And for the last time it's not what he listens to, it's the reasons he gives for listening to it. I appreciate that English isn't his first language and kudos to him for doing something like this in something other than his mother tongue - I certainly couldn't - but directly relating perceived attractiveness to how likely he is to listen to an artist is hardly getting lost in translation.

That's a perfectly reasonable point to make, and having made it, move on. I would add though, that attractiveness of pop stars has been the staple of the pop industry for 60 years. One Direction don't sell records for their innate genius musical ability any more than Bay City Rollers did 40 years ago. People, especially teenagers and gay men, fancy pop stars. Always will. Like you, I've never judged music on appearance, I judge what's in the grooves as we used to say, though a good performance can enhance. I don't have to agree with Alex' basis of choice, but I'll defend his right to listen to whatever he wants to. (hi Alex, sorry for interrupting your thread, I'll shut up now, no doubt to a chorus of buzzjack cheers  ...) Carry on! B-)

The album ultimately reached the Top 30 in the UK Albums Chart. Their second album "Crawdaddy" was not as well received. Pressing forward with their new style, the group followed with their third and final album in 1992, entitled "Erotica", a few weeks before Madonna's album of the same name. The album contained the US single, "Long Day in the Universe", which was featured on the soundtrack for the Mike Myers film "So I Married an Axe Murderer". Although they toured the United States in support of the album for a year, the members of the Darling Buds grew increasingly frustrated by their lack of commercial success and disbanded. # 50 in UK Singles Chart. It was the group's 20th single and their last one to chart, reaching number 50 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1988. The single was accompanied by a Promotional video of the group performing the song inside and outside of a country mansion. The mansion was owned by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees who claimed that his house was haunted by the ghost of a gardener who enjoys playing pranks on the Gibb family. As a reference to this, a gardener was fleetingly seen in some shots. Soon after this, the group released "The Story so Far", a greatest hits album, which featured "Heart of Stone" as the only new track (at a shortened 3:58). Bucks Fizz recorded several other songs at this time, but due to the low chart position of this single, went unreleased until they were unearthed for a compilation album of unreleased Bucks Fizz songs, The Lost Masters in 2006. Member Cheryl Baker later recorded a lead vocal for the track which was also included on The Lost Masters collection. Journalist Mark Frith said that the song was "a gusty pop classic". September 16, 201311 yr 05.11.1988 : Bucks Fizz - Heart Of Stone . Journalist Mark Frith said that the song was "a gusty pop classic". Mark Frith was a good rock/pop journalist and he was right, this is a great pop song. Cher's version was less subtle, but good, but this is a fabulous under-rated gem of a single. Bucks Fizz were never taken seriously thanks to the name, Eurovision and snooty rock journalists, but their song-writer/producers had a long run of quality pop in much the same way as Girls Aloud's did.

Alex tends to let the list speak for itself without comment (cut n pasting others comments). I doubt I'll ever defend the right of anyone to mock an individual for loving music, whatever his reasoning. I will defend you're right to comment on the individual tracks in the list and express an opinion on them to the end of time, however. I assume you've heard all of them and know them well enough to express an opinion, of course. I know I have.

There was less room for young pop acts such as Tiffany. As a result "Radio Romance" failed to achieve the success of her previous singles. It made the Top 40 in the US and managed to become a decent hit in the UK, where it reached #13. In Japan, the song and Tiffany were featured in TV commercials for Meiji "Lucky" chocolate sticks. The music video for "Radio Romance" was one of Tiffany's most surreal. In the video, she plays a waitress in a diner who calls the radio request line often to request a song for her secret crush. The problem is that he is holding hands with her best friend. Later in the video, Tiffany dances with others in a what looks like a dream sequence. As the video progresses, a child appears with a magic wand which furthers the video's fantasy nature.

It was released at the end of 1988 - the year that had seen Wilde release a best-selling album, have four international hits (including the chart-topping "You Came") and support Michael Jackson on the European leg of his world tour. "Four Letter Word" marked the first occasion in Wilde's then eight-year career where she released a straight ballad as a single. It also marked her last release of a song written by her father and brother (who had written the majority of her early hits together, including the pop classic "Kids in America)". It became her third consecutive UK Top 10 single from "Close", reaching number 6. Edited September 16, 201311 yr by AlexRange

The single was released on 28 November 1988 and was written by Stock Aitken Waterman. "Especially for You" debuted at number two and stayed at that position for four consecutive weeks. This is Donovan's highest peak in Australia, and was Minogue's highest until Confide in Me (1994). In New Zealand, the song debuted at number four, until peaking at number two. To date, this is Donovan's only single to peak in the top twenty, and is currently Minogue's highest and longest single to date in that country, staying for twenty-one weeks. The song then debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart, staying there for four weeks, until rising to number one for three consecutive weeks. The song stayed in the chart for fourteen weeks in total. Edited October 8, 201311 yr by AlexRange
