November 1, 201311 yr Author You dont like their own work because you dont like Neil's voice, I assume? I place them (86 - 93) and Erasure (87 - 95) at the top of the pop pile. No, I don't have anything against Neil's voice, just prefer female singers over the males. All my number ones (with only 1 expection) have the female vocals, but it doesn't mean, that I hate all male singers.

"Sweet and Low" fared marginally better in the UK than the previous single, "Brite Side", by peaking two places higher at #57. Around the time of the release of "Sweet and Low", Harry embarked on a solo tour in the United States, UK and Australia in early 1990. The song itself is a sugary synth-pop track and the single version of the song has a much more dance feel compared to the original version that appears on the album. The single is also often praised for its accompanying music video, which is a homage to Harry's fashion and visual influences such as Andy Warhol and Stephen Sprouse. The clip is a colorful and vibrant tribute, and Harry is seen posing and dancing in front of the various colored and animated backdrops. It is considered by many to be one of Harry's finest music videos to date. "Sweet and Low" / "Kiss It Better" was released as a double A-side single in Australia in 1990, reaching #30. The song was written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. The song was released as the album's lead single on 30 April 1990 by PWL and Mushroom Records. "Better the Devil You Know" is known as the song that re-invented Minogue to a more sexual appeal, as her previous albums were presented with her "girl next door" persona, while her music onwards present an independent approach. Musically, it is a dance-pop song that features elements of synthpop and disco influences. The song's title is referenced as an idiom. Lyrically, the song was said to be about Minogue's leaving of her TV series Neighbours and her relationship with her then-boyfriend, INXS frontman and singer Michael Hutchence. The song was lauded by music critics, who noted the imagery change in her music. They also complimented the song itself and felt it was one of Minogue's best, along as a highlight to, not just her studio album but her compilations as well. Commercially, it was successful. The song peaked at number two in United Kingdom and # 4 in her native Australia. "Better the Devil You Know" became Minogue's fifth non-consecutive UK top two single. In Europe best peak positions were # 4 in Ireland and # 5 in Belgium. Edited November 7, 201311 yr by AlexRange

It was written during 'the Blondie period. The single which was produced by Mike Chapman became her lowest charting single in the UK, peaking outside the Top 75 at #89 and it subsequently fell off the chart after just two weeks, which made it the lowest single of Harry's to chart on the UK Singles Chart. The single was not released in the US. "Maybe for Sure" is an anthem-like pop song with an uplifting chorus and many fans consider it a highlight on the Def, Dumb and Blonde album. The single was unsuccessful due to lack of record company promotion. However, Harry was touring the UK around the time of its release as a single. Edited November 8, 201311 yr by AlexRange

It was written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss and first released in June 1960 by Brian Hyland with orchestra conducted by John Dixon. Hyland's version hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on August 8, 1960 and also made the top 10 in other countries, including #8 on the UK Singles Chart. The story told through the three verses of the song is as follows: (1) the young lady is too afraid to leave the locker where she has changed into her bikini; (2) she has made it to the beach but sits on the sand wrapped in a blanket; and (3) she has finally gone into the ocean, but is too afraid to come out, and stays immersed in the water – despite the fact that she's "turning blue" – to hide herself from view. Trudy Packer recited the phrases "One, two, three, four/Tell the people what she wore", heard at the end of each verse before the chorus; and "Stick around, we'll tell you more", heard after the first chorus and before the start of the second verse. It was also remade in 1990 by Bombalurina which featured Timmy Mallett, star of then-popular United Kingdom children's television show, Wacaday. The song reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart on August 19, 1990, and stayed at the position for three weeks. The song was released around the world and topped the charts in over a dozen countries, selling more than a million copies. Edited November 11, 201311 yr by AlexRange

As a trio, with artist Andreas Thein and vocalist Susanne Freytag, the group made initial recordings in Germany which were destined for future release in the UK, where Ralf Dorper's early experimental recordings had received critical acclaim. With the inclusion of classically-trained musician and composer Michael Mertens and singer Claudia Brücken, music-journalist Paul Morley signed the band to Trevor Horn's newly formed ZTT Records label. In 1988, the band (initially still including Ralf Dorper and Susanne Freytag) signed to Virgin Records, and began recording new material. Alongside Michael Mertens was the new line-up of American vocalist Betsi Miller, bassist Derek Forbes and drummer Brian McGee (both ex-Simple Minds). The result was a new album, released in 1990 called "1234". "Only One Word" was the second single from this album. # 71 in UK Singles Chart. Edited November 11, 201311 yr by AlexRange

She is best known for her work with Lone Justice and her 1990 UK solo chart-topping hit, "Show Me Heaven". Originally written by Joshua Rifkin and Eric Rankin, when McKee was first offered the song, she refused to record it unless she was allowed to change the lyrics. The theme song to the Tom Cruise movie "Days of Thunder", McKee's recording was a massive hit in the United Kingdom, spending four weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart. It was also a number one hit in Netherlands and Norway + # 2 in Ireland and Sweden. "Show Me Heaven" failed to enter the Billboard Hot 100, but did peak at number 28 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Although it was her only number-one as a performer, her song "A Good Heart" was taken to number-one in November 1985 by Feargal Sharkey. Following her debut, McKee has released five studio albums. The album "Life Is Sweet" debuted McKee's lead guitar work described as "feral" by Mojo magazine. The raw postmodern album represented a smash up of her roots rock persona and is seen as a demarcation event in her career. It is now considered a minor classic and currently out of print. The later three (High Dive, Peddlin' Dreams and Late December) were released independently via her own records label. Edited November 13, 201311 yr by AlexRange
