"Stranded" is a song recorded by American rock band Heart. It was released as the third single from the band's tenth studio album "Brigade". It is a mid-tempo power ballad that features Heart's guitarist Nancy Wilson picking up lead vocals. Nancy also performed lead vocals on two previous Heart hits: "There's The Girl" and "These Dreams".

 

The track climbed to #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1990, but was not a big success in the UK Singles Chart, where it stalled at #60, also this single went to #1 in Canada.

"Kinky Boots" is a 1960s song written by Herbert Kretzmer and David Lee, and recorded by Patrick Macnee and Honor Blackman, stars of the television series "The Avengers".

 

The music was commissioned by Ned Sherrin for the satirical TV series That Was The Week That Was and used in a sequence featuring the titular footwear (then fashionable). Lyrics were later added for a recording by Macnee and Blackman, released by Decca in February 1964. The song was not initially a hit, but a 1990 re-release reached the top ten of the British Singles Chart in December of that year, after the song was promoted by BBC Radio One DJ Simon Mayo. The single peaked at No.5 and remained on the chart for seven weeks. The song is quite short: just one minute and thirty-seven seconds long.

"Soundtrack to a Generation" is the second and final single to be taken from "Romantic?". It would be the band's final original release under their contract with Virgin Records. It was written by lead singer Philip Oakey and keyboard player Neil Sutton and features vocals by Oakey, Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley.

 

It was recorded at HL studios in Sheffield during 1990 and produced by Bob Kraushaar. After the moderate success of "Heart Like a Wheel" in 1990, Virgin agreed to release a second single from Romantic? In an attempt to resurrect their past, the band advertised the track as 'Red', a reference to their old early 1980s labeling system of 'Red' for dance tracks and 'Blue' for pop songs. The reference was lost on all but the most knowledgeable fans.

 

Released in the UK in October 1990, "Soundtrack to a Generation" flopped badly reaching only number 77 in the UK singles chart, and charting for two weeks. It was to be the worst performance of a Human League single for ten years in United Kingdom, but it's only one their song in my charts.

 

The music video for "Soundtrack to a Generation" was a simply shot studio performance of the song with video smudge effects and a video overlay of falling leaves to give an "autumn" effect. The band's dress style had been a deliberate attempt to distance themselves from the over-stylized, late-1980s videos. There was little change in Catherall, but Oakey had re-adopted long hair and wore leather chaps. Susan Ann Sulley had adopted a "Supermodel" style of a very short dress and bouffant blonde hair. The video would be keyboard player and co-songwriter Neil Sutton's first onscreen appearance with the band.

"I Can't Say Goodbye" is the fifth and final single from "Love Moves", the 1990 album by Kim Wilde. The single was released exclusively in the UK (the third UK single from the album).It's a ballad, which featured backing vocals by Jaki Graham and reached # 51 in the Singles Chart.

 

It was 11th # 1 hit for Kim Wilde. Now she has more # 1 singles, than Dana. It means, that she is second successful female singer in my rankings (only behind Madonna).

"Summer Rain" is a song written by Robbie Seidman and Maria Vidal, produced by Rick Nowels for Belinda Carlisle's third album "Runaway Horses" (1989). The song is about a man who goes away to war and leaves his wife, saying that nothing will change - they will be together forever and always. The song is set in the present as his widow sings it, remembering the last time she saw him.

 

Carlisle's version had minor success on the charts.The song was released in the United Kingdom in December 1990 as the sixth and final release from "Runaway Horses", peaking at number 23 at the end of January 1991. In Australia, the song had the most commercial success, where it was released as the album's third single. In early April 1990, it debuted at number 42. Within five weeks of its release it peaked in the top ten where it stayed for five weeks. The song reached its peak at number six and remained there for three weeks.

 

Belinda Carlisle has stated that this is her favorite of her own songs.

"Secret" is a song recorded by American rock band Heart. It was released as the fourth and final single from the band's tenth studio album "Brigade". The track is a rock power ballad which did not meet with much mainstream success, peaking at number sixty-four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 79 on the UK Singles Chart.

 

A very emotional song, it portrays forbidden love and the tragedy that the situation is. Ann's voice shows power as usual but above all a sincerity which is unrivaled by many of her fellow performers. The communication in this power-ballad is often linked to the still on and off relationship Ann maintains with ex-guitarist Michael Fisher.

"Love and Kisses" is a dance-pop song performed by Australian singer Dannii Minogue. The song was written by Alvin Moody for Minogue's debut album "Love and Kisses" (1991). It was released as Minogue's debut single in February 1990 in Australia and on 18 March 1991 in the United Kingdom.

 

The music video for "Love and Kisses" was directed by Paul Goldman and Craig Griffin. The video features Minogue dancing in front of a white background with a group of dancers. It begins with close-up images of Minogue, dressed in a leather outfit. She is then shown with a group of dancers dancing in front of a changing backdrop. Black-and-white scenes of Minogue singing by herself are intercut throughout.

 

"Love and Kisses" was officially released in Australia in February 1990. The song debuted on the singles chart at number forty on 11 March 1990. Cher's remake was cut for the soundtrack of her 1990 film "Mermaids" in which it played under the closing credits, and the single's U.S. release coincided with the November release of the film. It peaked at number thirty three on the Billboard Hot 100, and number one in the United Kingdom, where it remained for five weeks, selling a total of 520,000 copies, making it one of the biggest-selling singles by a female artist in Britain in the 1990s. The song was Cher's first solo number one there. At the time, her previous number one in the United Kingdom had been in 1965 with her then husband Sonny Bono and their first hit: "I Got You Babe".

 

Cher's "The Shoop Shoop Song" also topped the charts in Austria, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, Norway and Spain; the single achieved a number two peak in Australia and top ten status in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.

After the pause in 6 years British Eurovision entry is number 1 again.

"A Message to Your Heart", written and composed by Paul Curtis, was the United Kingdom's entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1991, performed by Samantha Janus. Paul Curtis also penned the previous year's entry, "Give a Little Love Back to the World."

 

Samantha Janus won the right to perform at Rome by winning the UK national final, A Song for Europe, where she was the third singer to perform. As in the previous three years, the winner was picked via a nationwide telephone vote. Samantha Janus won over second-place finisher Brendan Faye by only 13,000 votes, in the slimmest margin since the telephone vote was introduced.

 

At the end of judging that evening, "A Message to Your Heart" took the tenth-place slot with 47 points. It was the worst showing for the United Kingdom since 1987, and resulted in the 1992 Song for Europe being retooled as far as telephone voting was concerned. Like the previous year, composer Paul Curtis submitted a topical entry for consideration; this time, the subjects were the less fortunate, suffering from poverty and starvation. Janus sung of the contrasts between the people who "are hungry just from being born", and the people who have too much, with "their only hunger being greed." The "message to [the] heart" refers to Janus imploring the better-off to, at the very least, say a prayer for the less fortunate, ending with the well-known John Bradford quotation, "There but for the grace of God, go I."

 

After Eurovision, the song placed at #30 on the UK Singles Chart. Janus went on to become a successful actress, starring in the sitcom "Game On" and the soap "EastEnders". Despite her achievements, her entry into the Eurovision is frequently remarked upon. She has said regarding the experience that her failure in the contest devastated her at the time and thought it would spell the end of her career. She has also called her appearance 'ridiculous', in that she was dressed in a pink mini-dress while singing about starving children and says the lyrics of the song are burned into her memory forever.

For simple : I didn't include "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini", because it was # 1 in UK.

"Touched by Jesus" was the third studio album by All About Eve. It was the first album to feature Church guitarist Marty Willson-Piper on guitars. Despite this, the album fell short of the commercial achievements of both the first album and Scarlet and Other Stories only reaching No. 17 in the UK charts. Of the three singles released only "Farewell Mr Sorrow" charted, reaching No. 36.
