Björn Again is a parody of the Swedish pop group ABBA founded in 1988 in Australia, but now involving multiple touring troupes performing under the Björn Again name.

 

Björn Again is run as a light-hearted parody of ABBA, with the use of pidgin Swedish and stage character names of Agnetha Falstart, Benny Anderwear, Frida Longstokin, and Björn Volvo-us reflecting the names of the original members of ABBA.

 

Björn Again has also occasionally covered songs by other artists. When Erasure produced an EP of ABBA covers called Abba-esque, Björn Again responded with an EP of covers of Erasure songs done in the style of ABBA, called Erasure-ish. The EP included the songs 'Stop!' and 'A Little Respect' that achieved Number 25 on the UK charts in September 1992.

 

Both Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson have lauded Björn Again a number of times over the years, and after ABBA's former members made their intentions known that they were not going to perform together any longer, Andersson was quoted as saying in 1999, "BJÖRN AGAIN are the closest you can get to seeing ABBA. ABBA will never reform!"

"Dreams" is the first single released by rock band Cranberries in 1992. The song later appeared on their 1993 debut album "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?". An early 1990 version was released in Ireland only in the summer of that year. The promotional single reached the Top 15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Airplay and the top 30 on the U.K. charts in early 1994.

 

There are three versions of the video. The first version of the music video features Dolores O'Riordan donning her original hairstyle that is seen on the "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" album cover. The video revolves around O'Riordan with the other band members flashing up throughout the video while she's sitting on in a chair with a cross as a back or a close up of her face and eyes. The video shows a mirrored image of O'Riordan to show she does the background vocals and towards the end the band members fade in and out constantly in front of O'Riordan.

 

The second version shows the Cranberries performing the song in a dimly lit aquatic-themed room interspersed with shots of geometric flowers hitting water. The third version, which was most-known, shows the Cranberries performing the song in a nightclub. After which, Dolores O'Riordan heads out to a house where graverobbers dressed in black have placed in a very large tree pile. Dolores bathes the tree pile in water and a man is buried under the pile. The water frees him and in the final seconds of the video, the man wakes up.

Belly was an alternative rock band formed in 1991 by former Throwing Muses members Tanya Donelly and Fred Abong. The band was based in Boston, Massachusetts, though all of the original members grew up in Newport, Rhode Island. The band consisted of Donelly on lead vocals and guitar, Abong on bass, Tom Gorman on guitar, and Chris Gorman on drums.

 

Donelly named the band "Belly" because she thought the word was "both pretty and ugly." Their EP, Slow Dust (1992), made it to number one on UK indie chart. "Gepetto" (# 94 in UK) was released as the first single from future album. Soon after, their single "Feed the Tree" made the Top 40 in UK Singles Chart and their first album "Star" (1993), hit number two on the UK Albums Chart.

 

In United States, the album was RIAA certified gold, largely based on the success of "Feed the Tree" on Modern Rock radio stations and MTV, where the video was featured as part of MTV's Buzz Bin videos and Alternative Nation video show for much of 1993. Two follow-up singles were released, "Gepetto" and "Slow Dog," but neither matched the initial success of "Feed the Tree." Star was consequently nominated for two Grammys. The album went on to sell over 800,000 copies in the US alone and two million worldwide.

Gepetto was an absolute corker.

a great mix of 92 cool and pop, I think the only ones that came close to topping my chart were Bananarama (I need to check this when i get back from holidays as I cant remember if it hit the top), kim, kylie, cranberries, madonna dn especially the marvellous sophie b hawkins which is a real classic and which seriously needs to be reissued so it can top my charts!. Bjorn Again were great fun and most of the rest were good.

"Feed the Tree" is a song by Belly, released as the band's first single from their debut album "Star" in 1993. It is also the band's biggest hit, reaching number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States. The song ranked #24 on VH1's 40 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 90s. According to lead singer Tanya Donelly, the song is a metaphor about commitment and respect, with the tree being a place on a large farm where a family would be buried.

 

The song is featured as a downloadable track for "Rock Band" videogame series.

"You're In a Bad Way" is a song by British pop group Saint Etienne. It appears on their 1992 album "So Tough" and was released as a single in 1993.

 

The song is a deliberately old-fashioned throwback to 1960s pop music. In an interview with Melody Maker magazine, Bob Stanley claims that it was written in ten minutes as a simple imitation of Herman's Hermits, and was only intended to be a B-side to "Everlasting", but the record company decided that it should be a single.

 

The album version of the song begins with a sample from the film Billy Liar (1963): "A man could lose himself in London. Lose himself. Lose himself. Lose himself in London!" The lyrics describe a man who is depressed and has ceased to care for himself - the singer tells him "jeans are old and your hair's all wrong / Don't you know that crewcuts and trainers are out again?" The singer invites him to "Just dial my number or call my name". It also makes reference to "watching Bruce on the old Generation Game", which led to the song being self-mockingly described as "the one about Bruce Forsyth" in the sleevenotes to the compilation "Too Young to Die - The Singles".

 

"You're in a Bad Way" was one of the group's biggest hits, reaching #12 on the UK Singles Chart. There are two videos for the song. One is a low-budget production featuring split-screen photography of the band performing in a blank space and wearing restrained 60s attire. The other is more spectacular: the band performs in a stylized, garishly-coloured version of a 1960s TV show, with a scantily-clad dancers and a backdrop of retro home furnishing.

"Sunday Mondays" was the second single from Vanessa Paradis' self-titled third album.

 

The album was one of her most successful and most critically acclaimed, proving to be both popular in France and the UK. It spawned several successful singles, including one of her most recognisable songs "Be My Baby". The album is also noted for being the first time Paradis took creative control over her music.

 

The album is noted for being extremely innovative in its use of instruments, and for its replication of the 1960s soundscape on virtually every song. One of the minor hits from the CD was "Sunday Mondays" (# 36 in Netherlands, # 49 in United Kingdom).

"Hobart Paving" is a single by British pop group Saint Etienne. It was released by Heavenly Records in May 1993 as a double A-side with the band's cover of "Who Do You Think You Are", originally released in 1974 by Jigsaw. It reached number 23 in the UK Singles Chart.

 

The song describes an unhappy woman, using characteristically surreal images such as "Rain falls like Elvis tears" and "Just like a harpsichordist she moves". The apparently meaningless title appears in the song's chorus: "Hobart paving, don't you think that's it's time, / On this platform with the drizzle in my eyes?" The title may derive from a construction firm called Hobart Paving Company Limited in the town of Croydon, where two of the band members grew up.

Ace of Base is a Swedish pop group, originally consisting of Ulf "Buddha" Ekberg and three siblings, Jonas "Joker" Berggren, Malin "Linn" Berggren and Jenny Berggren. They released four studio albums between 1993 and 2002, which sold over 40 million copies worldwide. This makes them the third-most successful band from Sweden of all time, after ABBA and Roxette.

 

"All That She Wants" is the debut single by Swedish pop group Ace of Base. The song was produced by Denniz Pop. In early 1993, the song reached the top of the charts in many countries, including Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia. The single was certified platinum in the United States, where it peaked at number 2. It is one of the highest-selling number 2 songs of all time in the United States : it stayed in the top three on the Billboard Hot 100 for three months.

"You're the One That I Want" is a song written by John Farrar for the 1978 film version of the musical Grease. It was performed by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

 

The single was a huge international hit, reaching no.1 in several countries. In the U.S. the single reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week in June 1978, and was certified Platinum for shipments exceeding 2 million copies. It also topped the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks in the summer of 1978 some months before the film had even been released in that country. As of 2013, it is still the fifth best-selling single of all time in the U.K., where it has sold 2 million copies. A re-released version of the single reached # 4 in the UK in 1998, the twentieth anniversary of the film's debut. It is one of the best-selling singles of all time, having sold over 6 million copies between United States, United Kingdom, Germany and France alone.

 

In 1993, Epic Records released the London cast recording "Grease - Original London Cast Recording" and "You're the One That I Want" was issued as the lead single by Craig McLachlan and Deborah Gibson. In part due to a routine promotional push and huge box office success of the first major revival of "Grease", this cover version scored big on the UK singles charts, peaking at number thirteen.

 

Original version was blocked from my # 1 by Twiggy's hit "Fallen Angel" in May 1978.

Donna De Lory is an American singer, dancer and songwriter. De Lory has been surrounded by music ever since she was born. The De Lory family is very musical and is well known in the music industry. Her father Al De Lory played piano, electric organ, and harpsichord on The Beach Boys's Pet Sounds album and was responsible, among other things, for producing Glen Campbell's "golden era" on Capitol Records. In addition he co-wrote the 1960 Billboard Hot 100 #1 novelty hit for Larry Verne, "Mr. Custer."

 

She made her professional singing debut at age eight singing a Recipe dog food commercial. She sang on children's albums for Walt Disney and was heard on the tune "It's a Small World," featured on a ride at Disneyland and Disney World. She also sang on commercials for McDonald's, Mattel, and Eastman Kodak. She contributed vocals to projects by Kim Carnes, Barry Manilow, Santana.

 

De Lory accompanied Madonna as backing vocalist and dancer on every concert from "Who's That Girl" Tour in 1987, up to the Confessions Tour in 2006.

 

De Lory's 1993 single "Just A Dream" was written and produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard. The track was originally recorded by Madonna for her 1989 "Like a Prayer" album. The original version of this song remains an example of unreleased Madonna songs. De Lory's cover version incorporated backing vocals by Madonna. De Lory's version managed to reach the United States Hot Dance Club Play chart. It peaked at #71 in UK Singles Chart in July 1993.
