10.06.1995 : Daniel O'Donnell and Mary Duff - Secret Love (4 weeks # 1)

http://www.dararecords.com/irish_music_store/info/images/d_odonnell_m_duff_togetheragn_360.jpg

Daniel O'Donnell is an Irish singer, television presenter and philanthropist. After rising to public attention in 1983 he has since become a household name in Ireland and the UK; he has also had considerable success in the US and Australia. In 2012, he became the first artist to have a different album in the UK charts every year for 25 consecutive years. O'Donnell's music has been described as a mix of country and Irish folk, and he has sold over ten million records to date.

During his lengthy career, O'Donnell has made friends with his childhood idols, including Cliff Richard and Loretta Lynn. He also forged a close professional relationship with the Irish songstress Mary Duff, who regularly tours with O'Donnell. "Secret Love" was the first single from their album "Timeless" (UK # 13) and reached # 28 in UK Singles Chart.

Original "Secret Love" was written in 1953 with music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. Its first performance was in the film "Calamity Jane" by Doris Day. Doris Day also recorded the best-selling record of the song, which reached #1 on both the Billboard and Cash Box charts in 1954. Most successful cover version in United Kingdom was recorded by Kathy Kirby in October 1963 and afforded her UK career record with a #4 UK chart peak that December.

"Big Yellow Taxi" is a song written and originally recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970.

In 1995, Amy Grant released a cover of "Big Yellow Taxi" to pop and Adult Contemporary radio in United States and United Kingdom. The song was the fourth pop radio single from her "House of Love" album (the third in U.S.). Grant's version featured slightly altered lyrics, which she changed at Joni Mitchell's request. The single peaked at No. 67 on The Billboard Hot 100, No. 18 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and at No. 20 in the U.K. Grant also released a music video for the single, which was aired in the U.S. and U.K. and released to home video on Grant's Greatest Videos 1986-2004 DVD.

15.07.1995 : Kirsty MacColl & Evan Dando - Perfect Day (3 weeks # 1)

http://www.evandando.co.uk/discography/images/perfect%20day%20kirsty.jpg

In 1995, Kirsty released two new singles on Virgin, "Caroline" and a cover of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" (a duet with Evan Dando, # 75 in UK), together with the "best of" compilation "Galore".

"Galore" became MacColl's only album to reach the top 10 in the UK Albums Chart, but neither of the new singles, nor a re-released "Days", made the Top 40. MacColl did not record again for several years; her frustration with the music business was exacerbated by a lengthy case of writer's block. MacColl herself admitted that she was ready to give up her music career and become an English teacher in South America.

05.08.1995 : Shania Twain - Any Man Of Mine (3 weeks # 1)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/68/Shania_Twain_-_Any_Man_of_Mine.png

"Any Man of Mine" is a song co-written and recorded by Canadian country music artist Shania Twain. It was released in April 1995 as the second single from her classic album "The Woman in Me".

The song was written by Robert John "Mutt" Lange and Twain. The song became Twain's first number one hit at country radio, as well her first crossover hit after it cracked the top 40 on the pop charts. It was released to radio in April 1995, and topped the charts for two weeks in July. "Any Man of Mine" was released to European markets (include United Kingdom) but due to its country sound, it didn't make much of an impact.

The music video for "Any Man of Mine" was shot in Santa Ynez, California and directed by John Derek and Charley Randazzo. The video showcases Twain's famed midriff, while she dances around in jeans and a jean-vest. The country theme of the video is prominent, filmed at a ranch, with Twain being around a horse, and driving a truck pulling a horse trailer.

"Any Man of Mine" also proved to be a critical success, it was nominated for both Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance at the 1996 Grammy Awards.

First # 1 single for my favourite singer from 90s decade. :cheer:

Madonna got # 1 again.

02.09.1995 : Madonna - Human Nature (2 weeks # 1)

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/086/8/f/Madonna_Human_Nature_Cover_by_Denjo_Reloaded.jpg

"Human Nature" is a song from her sixth studio album "Bedtime Stories" (1994). The album was released with the intention to tone down the image of Madonna, who was being heavily criticized at the time.

A bondage-inspired music video was released for the song, directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, which features Madonna and her dancers dressed in PVC leather dancing highly choreographed routines. Unlike her previous music videos for "Justify My Love" and "Erotica", however, the video was meant to be more humorous than sexy. It was a satirical depiction of sex, meant to ridicule the taboos our society places on the subject.

"Human Nature" was a moderate hit in United States, peaking at number 46 on Billboard Hot 100. It became Madonna's second consecutive single not to enter the top 40 in the U.S., following her single Bedtime Story, which reached a peak of number 42 in the spring of 1995. It also entered the top ten on several charts around the world including the United Kingdom, Italy, and Japan. In the United Kingdom the single entered the chart and peaked at number eight and has sold a total of 80,685 copies. In Australia, the single peaked within the top 20, at number 17, on the ARIA chart. It also reached the top 20 in Finland and Switzerland, peaking at number 11 and number 17 respectively. On Irish Singles Chart the song peaked just outside the top 20, at number 21.

Sannie Charlotte Carlson, best known as Whigfield, is a Danish born, Italian based Eurodance singer best known for the song "Saturday Night" which was a worldwide hit and prevented Wet Wet Wet from reaching a record-equalling 16th week at number 1 in the UK.

Ballad "Close To You" was the forth single from her debut album "Whigfield". Unfortunately after three previous top 10 singles "Close To You" reached only # 13 in UK.

23.09.1995 : Voice Of The Beehive - Angel Come Down (2 weeks # 1)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZxXnjIe2pMg/UjoSZelkMXI/AAAAAAAAIu4/nL_qMHy95p0/s640/VOTB2.jpg

In 1996 Voice Of The Beehive released a third album "Sex & Misery". "Angel Come Down" was first single from this album and didn't reach even top 100 in UK Singles Chart.

"Sex & Misery" was first distributed by East West Records in early 1996, almost five years after their previous studio effort, Honey Lingers. With just two of four released singles barely breaking onto the charts, the album was considered a critical and commercial disappointment and proved to be Voice of the Beehive's final recording.

07.10.1995 : Intastella - The Night (2 weeks # 1)

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y7qHjGYC2R8/T6xhCtdm4QI/AAAAAAAAD_U/SFgLj5lrqX8/s400/INTASTELLA_Ian_tilton_09_0.jpg

Intastella were an alternative rock band from Manchester who evolved from the earlier band Laugh. They had four top-75 hits in the UK during the 1990s.

Laugh formed in 1985 with a line-up of Martin Wright (vocals), Ian Bendelow, Martin Mittler and Spencer Birtwistle. In 1990 the band parted ways with guitarist Bendelow and discovered singer Stella Grundy and dancer Lil' Anthony, changing their sound to a more dance-orientated style and changing their name to Intastella.

The band's biggest hit came in 1995, with "The Night" (cover version of The Four Seasons song) reaching #60 in UK, preceding their second album "What You Gonna Do". Further singles followed during 1996 and 1997, but none repeated their earlier success. One of these, "Grandmaster", was used on the soundtrack of the 1997 film "Love in Paris". A final album "Nuphonia" was released in 1997.

28.10.1995 : Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue - Where The Wild Roses Grow (1 week # 1)

http://asset.vidivodo.com/vidservers/server01/videos/2010/03/19/06/v201003190605560367522.mp4.jpg

"Where The Wild Roses Grow" is a duet by Australian rock singer Nick Cave and pop singer Kylie Minogue. Cave was inspired to write "Where the Wild Roses Grow" after listening to the traditional song, "Down in the Willow Garden", a tale of a man courting a woman and killing her while they are out together.

The video for this song shows Kylie Minogue in character, apparently having been murdered by Nick Cave's character. We see her in ghost-like form and also in a river in a pose reminiscent of Millais' painting Ophelia. The video ends with Cave's character putting a rose in Minogue's mouth and closing her eye lids.

The song received a positive reception from music critics and became the successful single worldwide reaching top 10 in many countries : # 2 (Australia), # 3 (Norway, Sweden, Belgium), # 4 (Austria), # 6 (Ireland) and was near with top 10 in UK (Peak # 11). The song was certified Gold in Germany in 1996 for 250,000 copies sold, despite never reaching top ten in that country. It charted again at the bottom of the German Top 100 in 2008 because of digital downloads after it was used in a soap opera. "Where the Wild Roses Grow" was also certified Gold in Australia for selling 50,000 copies.

8th number one for Kylie in my retrospective.

04.11.1995 : Madonna - You'll See (7 weeks # 1)

http://img0.liveinternet.ru/images/attach/c/4/83/533/83533118_youllseechords.jpg

"You'll See" is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her ballads compilation Something to Remember (1995). The album was released with the intention of toning down the image of Madonna, who was being heavily criticized at the time. The singer decided to work with producer David Foster, who co-wrote and produced three songs with Madonna in September 1995. "You'll See" was released on October 30, 1995 by Maverick Records as the first single from the album. The pop rock ballad received generally favorable reviews from contemporary critics.

"You'll See" was commercially successful, reaching top five in Austria, Canada, Finland, Italy and United Kingdom (# 5). The single managed to peak at number six on Billboard Hot 100, making Madonna one of the only three artists in the Hot 100 history to have a hit peak at each position from one to ten on the chart.

"You'll See" is Madonna's 20th best-selling single in the United Kingdom, with sales over 305,000 physical copies. An accompanying music video was directed by Michael Haussman as a sequel to Madonna's previous music video for "Take a Bow".

09.12.1995 : Ace of Base - Lucky Love (2 weeks # 1)

http://img.mp3centa.com/images/albums/big/Ace_Of_Base/1995_-_Lucky_Love.jpg

"Lucky Love" is a song recorded by Swedish group Ace of Base from their album "The Bridge". It became their fifth worldwide single, and was the first single from "The Bridge" to be released in Europe; the acoustic version of the song was the second single in the United States and Canada. "Lucky Love" also became their first number 1 in Sweden, but reached only # 20 in United Kingdom.

The first, released in Europe, directed by Rocky Schenck and featuring the original version of the song, focuses on a middle-aged woman reuniting with the boyfriend she had as a teenager. The band is seen around the actors in the video and also though footage shot by the band themselves using a handheld video camera.

The second video, released in North America and featuring the acoustic version of the song, focuses on several young couples interacting in various scenarios with shots of the band cut in. A shot of the video for "Beautiful Life" can be seen on a television screen in this version. The U.S Version (the second video) filmed in February 1996 is the last video in Malin's career in which she sang in a music video.

27.01.1996 : Bonnie Tyler - Making Love Out Of Nothing At All (2 weeks # 1)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P1m-X0Rz07c/UdCMFSUzpZI/AAAAAAAABv0/yJhMKKMeR3c/s431/BonnieTyler.jpg

"Making Love Out of Nothing At All" is a power ballad written and composed by Jim Steinman and first released by Australian soft rock band Air Supply for their 1983 compilation album "Greatest Hits". It reached #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

The song was later covered by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler on her album "Free Spirit". It opens with a word-less choral voice, before the melody begins, played on piano. Allmusic call this version "fantastic, clocking in at nearly eight minutes, and seems perfectly suited for her voice. [Air Supply's] version was already great, but hers is awesome."

Bonnie's version was a hit only in 1 country (Belgium, # 2) and reached only # 45 in United Kingdom.

08.07.1995 : Amy Grant - Big Yellow Taxi (1 week # 1)

What a completely horrible cover version. Perhaps it's just that this song doesn't lend itself to alternative versions - even Counting Crows made a complete mess of it.
