Just heard the most singles from UK Singles Top 50 charts in 1973.

I have a little problem for my retro # 1 thread with this year.

There are very little numbers of songs, which I like and they are good for my # 1.

Main problem: There are no songs, which I like, in a period between 2 good realises from Carpenters:

"Yesterday Once More" (1 week in charts : 07.07.1973) and "Top Of The World" (1 week in charts : 20.10.1973)

On this minute : I have 2 different solutions of this problem, but I don't like both.

1. Made a break in 10 weeks and don't have any # 1 in this period

2. Use the charts from another countries, maybe it can help me, but general idea would be broken

- Maybe you know any singles, which were released in UK, especially in August, September, October 1973, but never were in UK charts.

- Maybe any song perfomances from Top Of the Pops.

- Maybe there were another UK music charts or extended charts, which include some another songs, which never were in official Singles Top 50

Any singles from female singers or mixed pop groups (Mary Hopkin, Clodagh Rodgers, New Seekers, Dana, Brotherhood Of Man e.t.c.), which never were in UK official charts, are welcome for suggestions.

If you watch my Retro # 1s, that you know my music taste and can help me.

Working for the industry back then, Alex mate. There are many things that books, have never published about charts & many records, that did sell ok, but failed to make top 50 positions.

Nice suggestions, John.

Great song from Middle Of The Road :cheer:

"Won't Somebody Dance With Me" was in charts (late October) and would be the next # 1 single for Lynsey De Paul in my retro thread.

I know about half of these, I need to do some more research on the rest! Miki Anthony is almost impossible to find these days but he had a UK hit and this follow-up, both faves of mine, sweet tuneful pop. I thought he was Anne Murray (similar voice) when he first came out till he appeared on Top Of The Pops:) New World & carpenters are pleasant tracks, Four Tops Is great

which reminds me - Anne Murray is worth searching out - apart from Snowbird, her big 1970 hit, she had lots of non-hit decent singles in the early 70's, like Talk It Over In The Morning (1971) Cotton Jenny (1972) Danny's Song (1973) You Won't See Me (1974) :)

Also, some time around now, Fleetwood Mac put out a version of "For Your Love" (the Yardbirds classic), it sunk as "Albatross" was re-released. "A Little Bit Like Magic" by King Harvest was also released. There was also an instrumental version of "Workin' On A Groovy Thing" out. I forget the artistes, but it was a version of the Fifth Dimension piece, with an instrumental of Carole King's "It's Too Late" on the B side.
